RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted July 31, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 31, 2013 Today, 31 July 2013, 170208 was formally released to traffic carrying it's new advertising livery - The Brecks - it had made a couple of journeys yesterday, which is when I became aware of it's new coat and then today a picture was posted on Flickr, my son sent me the link and by careful examination of the timetable I reckoned it would work "The stopper" from Norwich to Cambridge, so I left work and made with all haste to Eccles Road, a minute or two later 170208 rolled up so I photographed it and then ran to the other end of the platform to get some "slices" (much to the amusement of the passengers ! - alive but barely a man, we can rebuild him (in P4)) - not brilliant but they'll do; and there's only ever one first day in service; and it was at my local station so I'm happy. 31 July 2013 Eccles Road 170208 on 2K89, 17:35, Norwich - Cambridge - stopper As I type this it's just left Ely, 4 minutes late, on the same wotking ! It should be back through Eccles at 20:19, guess who will be waiting ...

RMweb Gold Robert Shrives Posted August 1, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 1, 2013 Hi Missy , Almost record has to go to the Central/london Midland Bullring liveried 170 - in days it had windows bricked and vinyls overlaped windows so new windows lost the affect and it was a total mess more than its orginal effort. Did you see the Wales and West/ Wessex 153s in Cornish advert liveries - and coolest livery Ginsters 158s ! Back on topic livery good to reduce to 4mm and great photos. Robert I've got pictures of all of those too - I don't limit ugly to modern day ! (I know people don't always like the moden liveries but can we avoid wandering off into debates about how much better the good old days colour schemes were please - they normally end up locked)

2mm Andy
If only it were, it's a redundant asset now I did wonder that - aside from the crossing barriers, there didn't appear to be any steps leading up to the door! Andy

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 1, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 1, 2013 I've now discovered that the train was launched (yesterday) by Dame Stella Rimington - of MI5 fame !
Mick Boyd
Just had another look, there's a stone curlew on the LH side of the first set of doors on 79208, far easier to see on the unit than in the field! Mick.

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 2, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2, 2013 It's back through Saxmundham today, the torrential rain has stopped and will hopefully stay off until after it's passed - it's going the opposite way so better for photographs. RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted February 27, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2017 To bring this full circle 170208 left the area today heading for Crewe for it's overhaul which should see the end of the Brecks livery. 27 February 2017 Eccles Road 5Z70, 09:00, Norwich Crown Point - Crewe LNWR (with a cheery wave from the driver).
