Hi Andy,

Am I right in thinking you have tinkered with the street plan a bit to the south end of the layout around Warwick Road? The Radnor Arms looks like it's swapped sides of the street?

I think I can see what you have done. Is it because the tracks curve round to the fiddle yard?

If so, I am assuming that the police car is exiting Warwick Road and heading up Holland Road?

Guy

Hi Guy, yes I’ve had to shuffle things around a bit. The Radnor Arms as you spotted should be the other side of the road. The garage at the south end of the station has moved across the bridge. ……..and yes the Police car is doing exactly that.

Pretty well everything that’s moved is due to the curve into the fiddle yard. The layout is one 4ft x 2ft baseboard smaller than originally planned. I had to compromise slightly on the room size when the extension was built. This didn’t leave me enough room to put a work desk in.

A bit more progress of St Mary Abbots Court. Couple of walls now have their main blocks of colour, down pipes etc fitted.  Some windows added too. Once the shop windows are in I can start to fit the walls to the carcass and then add all the dormers to the roof prior to tiling it.

Nice home cooked Jambalaya for tea tonight accompanied by this rather nice bottle of St Austell Black IPA from my advent calendar stash…….followed by a feisty Sussex brew from the not long for this world Darkstar brewery…..bring on the weekend.

Charity Quiz night at our local Indian restaurant tonight…..hopefully we can break our trend of three consecutive second place.

St Mary Abbots Court is coming along nicely, three walls attached and the shops done bar signage, dormers being added too.

Second again last night……having a round of Celebrity Tattoos wasn’t going to end well for us! ………£1000 raised on the night for Cancer research.
I’m not going to get much work done today as I’m at a delayed Christmas dinner in York for former colleagues from the BRBS ( British Rail Business Systems, CRS ( seat reservations) team. This was my first management post on BR.

Just be glad you didn't have to get the tattoo done on yourself! Well done on the money raised.

A nice weekend in London to celebrate my sisters 60th birthday…..seemed rude not to do some of the new transport infrastructure….so ……Abbey Wood to Acton Mainline and back to Tottenham Court Rd on Crossrail then TCR to Battersea Power station on the Northern line extension.

I should get some more done on St Mary Abbots Court tomorrow, my extra windows have arrived.

Mixed progress today…..lots of chimneys fitted and more dormers fitted to St Mary Abbots Court, which has also had the errors with the plasterwork corrected and a bit of filler used to hide some joints. A start has also been made on the garden to the second of the Faller kits…..well the paths at least!

Well the gardens got their first coat of flock / static grass today. The last of the dormers and their roofs were also added to St Mary Abbots Court and I’ve made a start tiling the roof. First time I’ve used these, self adhesive roof tiles from York Modelmaking.

Next week I hope to make a start on the carcass for the building that goes at the other end of layout at Addison Gardens. The previous one I had started was a bit too big.

Hello Andy,

nice pictures. May I ask from where you get your models of the tractor-trailer unites seen in the last photos?. I'm looking for some lorries for my N gauge layout. I have lorry models from Osborns, Oxford, BT Models, and N tastic Models.

May I also ask you what you have used for the cobblestones shown in the last pictures?

The artics are a bit of a mish mash……The Gibb’s of Fraserburgh is a Tomytec truck modified to look more  like a British make. Custom decals for the trailer. A couple of other trailers are also Tomytec with custom decals. The Edwin Shirley Trucking artic is a 3D printed Scania cab from Shapeways mounted on a Tomytec chassis. The step trailer is scratchbuilt. There are a couple of eight wheelers which have a White metal Leyland Ergo cab from PG Models (think they have stopped making them) mounted on the Oxford Octopus chassis. There are other vehicles from ODC, Osbournes, N Tastic and RedAndy.

The cobble stones are a mix of Metcalfe and some rubber embossed ones from Chooch Enterprises.

Well….best laid plans etc….. the cold I had during our weekend in London turned into flu last weekend followed by a nasty chest infection. Still haven’t seen a doctor but have seen one of the practice nurses and subsequently spoken to a doctor. The drugs are working so I’ve managed to crawl to a table and do a bit of modelling. Three bits of roofing to St Mary Abbots Court are now tiled. I’d be pushed off the roof if I was a real tiler, bit from three foot away it won’t look to bad. Having to cut around all the dormers is a real pita!  But I was expecting use the tiles to hide any gaps and they are certainly doing that. Enough of my moaning here’s some pictures….now where have I left my medicine!

Mmmm those close ups do show a few bits that need repainting and one of the joints needs more sanding down.

Looks OK from a distance, and close-ups are always cruel in 'N'...

One thing that I noticed was the estate agent signage, I bought my first house through Connell's in the mid 80's and it didn't look quite as I remember it. I found an image online  https://st-neots.ccan.co.uk/content/catalogue_item/fishers-ironmongers-connells-estate-agents-and-fishers-yard-entrance-market-square-1980

which seems to point to the "s" coming later when they dropped "Estate Agents" from the signs. Minor detail really, and could be classed as rivet counting....

Hope you get over the flu, I feel like I've hardly had a non-sniffling or coughing week since early last autumn, certainly not fit enough to donate blood....

Any reason you didn't finish and paint the dormers before tiling?

They are painted apart from the roofs. Which will get done once the tiles are finished.

Great find with the picture, didn’t find anything 1980ish when I did a search. I don’t think the signage should be too difficult to change.

Thank you I’m slowly feeling better.

St Mary Abbots Court is finally finished bar chimney pots, which I’ll add when there’s less risk of me knocking the bl**dy things off.

Signage for the estate agents has been changed as Davexoc kindly found some contemporary to the 1980s.
