shanks522
Happy new year to all, Nice arrival this week, not a loco for Aylestone but will be stored on the Depot till its ready for action elsewhere. A christmas present from my parents and what a beauty she is! A sense of scale next to a crompton. I have been doing a little work on the layout but nothing worth showing just yet. Marcus 37
Hi Graham With so many layouts on here its amazing how you can miss some really good ones. Well this was one of them for me. Really superb looking layout and it has that southern atmosphere to a tee. Loving all the third rail EMU's. Shall enjoy reading through the rest of the thread and will now be following along with interest. Cheers Marcus

shanks522
Hello all, Nothing exciting going on! I did however visit the Erith groups show in Longfield today ( be rude not to as its on the doorstep) and grabbed a couple of bargins. First up another MLV, not very practical for the layout but i like it in blue and for £50.00 it was hard to resist. Also got a pair of mail vans for a good price. I have been grabbing an hour here and there on the layout and hopefully a more interesting update will be here soon. Graham.
shreives
A very enjoyable afternoon indeed will have to come up for a running session one night soon. I might bring some 70s stock so the MLV will fit in. Look forward to an update soon Stuart

shanks522
Any new stuff Graham?? Hi Neil, Not as such, There maybe some good/bad news for the layout , the bad is that it might be dismantled to make way for a spare bedroom, the good however is that it will be rebuilt as a portable layout and if any good could be exhibited? Its all bit up in the air at the moment. cheers Graham.
Marcus 37
Hi Graham I don't think there's any question of whether it will be good enough. It's a superb layout and I would think you would have exhibition organisers biting your hand off for it. Best of luck with making it portable if that's what you decide. Cheers Marcus

shanks522
Hello all, Some Good news some bad news. First up the Bad. Aylestone West is no more, well the station and yard are no more, I've removed the mainline circuit and all the associated baseboards. The Good news is the fiddle yard, depot and North terminus remain/will be reinstated. Its a bit chaotic at the moment but i have a plan and work has already begun on the new Aylestone! When i have some progress worth showing i'll post an update. Graham.

shanks522
Hello all, Just to show that somethings actually happening i've started installing new point work into the depot. The new set up of Aylestone will consist of the depot, the branch terminus and a double track mainline, the mainline will have a large removable section for ease of access and also space to do other projects. the depot and terminus will be in an L shape so can be used on its own without the need for the main loops attached. Aylestone West station will cease to exist so i may alter the topic name, theres also a few surprises in order which will be revelled in good time. Right now though its time for a cold beer and some testing with this little beauty. cheers Graham.
shanks522
Hello all, I'm plodding along at a slow pace, I had to remove a little more layout than originally planned but reinstatement work has begun. Now round the corner i can sort out the fiddle yard connection and start work on the branch station, this will be the same as before but longer to accommodate a 4CEP and also have an overgrown siding added which will be used for cement transfers. A little teaser of construction. Graham.

shanks522
Hello all, A little work this evening adding a hidden siding. First up the the normal depot set up, the houses that sit above the retaining walls are removable and sat on blocks. Removed the blocks and fitted some L brackets to the wall. Put the houses in position and made sure trains will fit. Soldered up all connections and had a test. Other bit of work was two EPB sidings at the opposite end. Graham. shanks522
hello all, Little bit hot to do any proper work on the layout so instead i knocked up a sliding shelf to house the controller and monitor for the storage siding cameras. Whilst i was at it i also added programming tracks in both 00 and N then filled the remaining space with a cutting mat, hopefully this will keep things a bit tidier. new shelf. back underneath the layout, once i put the facias on around the layout this will be neatened up. and back out again. Graham.
