sdw7300
Thanks for the kind comments - most appreciated. I started adding more greenery & bits to the P Way yard but then got distracted by another project - 950001 I started off with these pristine models, took a deep breath and dunked them in IPA... I'm using Pete Harvey's excellent kit - so much quicker than cutting individual window blanks & holes from plasticard I've added a few more roof details (I still need to add the GPS aerials) And the current state of play I want to model the current livery with the bi-coloured marker lights. I have some suitable LED's but it's going to take some careful soldering! Progress is slow so will be a few weeks before the next update..... RMweb Premium JDW Posted September 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2017 Its probably a silly question but isn't that a 150/2 you're using (different cab doors, gangway connection on cab ends...)? 950001 is a 150/

I picked up the 150/2 cheap and thought I could remove the gangway and cut a middle window into the cab. I must admit I thought that was the only difference but now you've highlighted it I can see the cab doors & windows are slightly different. I can (learn to) live with that..... ;-)
RMweb Premium JDW Posted September 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2017 I seem to think that the lights are in a slightly different position too, though I've not measured... Sorry, I'll be quiet now!

Sorry, I'll be quiet now! No problem (& thanks). Better now than when it’s been painted! I want to change the lighting to the bi-colour led’s on the current (post 2016 refurb) version so they’re having some work on them anyway.
RMweb Premium JDW Posted September 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 26, 2017 Oh good - as I say, I'm not certain, but I bought a half finished one off eBay a while back that someone had started (in hindsight it would have been easier to strip it and start afresh!) and the chassis didn't fit right on that, I suspect it's a 150/1 body but on a 150/2 chassis, will need some work before it goes back together to make it all fit. At least yours matches! In hindsight, I'd have swapped you your Centro unit for an FNW 150/1 if I'd known sooner, save you the effort!
RMweb Gold Revolution Mike B Posted September 27, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 27, 2017 WTF?!?!? Those bins are excellent Sam. I actually thought they were RTR until I went back through your thread!!
sdw7300
A bit more progress to report on 950001. Firstly I’ve decided to double the workload and do two at the same time..... well once you’ve got the tools out/ airbrush set up, it’s not that much extra effort to do two. (Who am I trying to kid ;-) ) The PHDesign kit includes the camera in the pre 2016 format but as it want to model the current spec I’ve made some of my own cameras. The roof on 950001 seems to have LOADS of aerials and bits so out with the plasticard and styrene rod. (The aerials have been shortened, squashed and reshaped since taking this photo) Halford grey primer, fill, sand, repeat, fill, sand, repeat then Halfords white primer. Then time to crack out the Network Rail Yellow! Lights were another area that received a modification in the 2016 overhaul with the separate marker and red lights being replaced by bicolour led’s. I had some suitable smd led’s left over from the ground position signals I built a while back. Off came the old lights from the Bachmann chassis (leaving the headlight led in place) and the bicoloured led’s were superglued in place. And a quick test solider to check they work. That’s you all caught up!
sdw7300
I've just noticed over 100 people are following this thread. I'm rather shocked and humbled - thank you to everyone who reads this. I hope people find some inspiration (or at least learn from my mistakes!). Progress on 950001 slowly continues.... The front ends As I started from Bachmann 150/2 models rather than 150/1's, a bit of work was required to modify the front ends. The corridor connectors are a separate moulding so pop off but this leaves a non-flush front. Some 0.5mm plasticard, filler and a bit of careful filing, followed by a couple of coats of Warning Panel Yellow got me to here: Followed by painting the roof and the black window surrounds. A few more front end details (connectors, cameras & lights) to add and then a couple of coats of gloss varnish and they'll be ready for transfers which I'm picking up from Railtec at Warley on Sunday. sdw7300
Happy New Year! It's been a while since I posted so I thought I'd add a few photo's from a recent running session on Laoson Valley. 97303 returns from a trip out on RHTT duties (I have absolutely no idea why I reversed into the oil terminal.....) 68002 pops by Finally the hard working 97303 is on UTU duties Meanwhile work on the TRU continues. Another few transfer application sessions and I should have some progress to share.... Cheers
Powerhaul 70 Pey
Great modern image layout. The vegetation is really good and I like how you have disguised the back scene with those big trees.
sdw7300
5 months in and I've still not finished the 950001 conversions! A few photos of the detailing I've been adding recently. Each bogie appears to have a slightly different arrangement of "orange boxes" The data panels are not strictly correct - I raided the spare transfers folder for the closest I could find. Finally, the cab ends Windows to add (and the lights on the second unit to convert) then on the home straight. RMweb Premium GWRPhil Posted April 21, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 21, 2018 Just spent a very enjoyable period of time reading through the feed and looking at all the pictures in the posts. sdw7300
Thanks Phil (& thanks for all the likes ;-)) No progress to report over the last couple of months. The layout is along the back wall of my garage..... a garage which has just been halved in length with the front half becoming an office for the wife. The layout is not affected but my garage/workshop space has drastically reduced :-(. But finally starting to get the space sorted, so much so I even managed the first modelling session since Jan on Friday! Started on fitting windows to the TRU Cheers
sdw7300
I'm still alive, honest! Managed to shoehorn a couple of modelling sessions into a hectic family life recently and got one of the TRU's pretty much complete. Still got a bit to do on the second one. Looking to sell one of them to free up some more modelling pennies! Cheers
Jack374
Nice work Sam! I like the revised lighting arrangement too, not something seen often despite being visible on many classes in the UK currently...great work. Thanks, Jack.

sdw7300
Evening folks The completed TRU has moved on to a new home so I’ve been working on the second one. I’d originally just glued the windows behind the new frames, but it meant I couldn’t add the PH Designs etched frames which came with the conversion kit as they need flush glazing. So I popped out the old windows and spend bloody ages cutting then filing some 0.5mm clear plastic to make some flush windows. If you ignore the less than perfect gluing and finger marks, I think it looks a bit better! I used some masking tape to hold the frames whilst the glue dried. Despite being careful I still managed to pull off part of the transfer. Doh! With a 20/0 paint brush, a steady hand and some black paint I managed to patch it up ok. On to tonight and I’ve been getting high on solder fumes. Best of all it worked! Thanks for popping by!
