RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted August 31, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 31, 2014 Well yesterday was my drag day - family business and problems with the running meant that this was my first chance to get them - and I wasn't sure I would until they actually ran, a fatality at Romford put them in doubt for a while but this time GA came through and they all ran. I headed over to Breydon Water and spent several hours wandering along the footpath which more or less follows the railway for the first 1.5 miles out of Yarmouth, as well as getting the drags this also allowed me the opportunity to photograph the signals and the disused carriage sidings. Breydon is the site of a junction where the direct line from Great Yarmouth to Norwich via Acle and the meandering line via Reedham go their own separate ways, it was a junction until the late 1970s / early 1980s but nowadays it's just two single lines from Great Yarmouth. Breydon Junction (site) 30 August 2014 47853, Rail Express, 90013 and 82102 on 5V33, 09:19, Norwich C.PT. T.&R.S.M.D - Great Yarmouth (09:51) via Reedham I then walked to Yarmouth, a fair trek considering as I was carrying all my camera gear for Great Yarmouth 47853, Rail Express, 82102 and 90013 on 1V33, 10:35, Great Yarmouth - Norwich (11:30) vice London Liverpool Street - via Reedham (cut short due to fatality at Romford) Back to Breydon Breydon Junction (site) 47853, Rail Express, 90014, Norwich and Norfolk Festival, and 82132 on 1V18, 10:00, London Liverpool Street - Great Yarmouth (12:36) via Reedham (It's not small, it's far away) I then gamboled on the sun, and sort of won, I decided I wanted to get the next drag on the outside of the curve, a bush was blocking (imho) the logical inside / with the sun shot so I positioned myself next to the foot crossing Breydon Junction (site) 47853, Rail Express, 82132 and 90014, Norwich and Norfolk Festival, on 1V43, 13:10, Great Yarmouth - Norwich (14:00) vice London Liverpool Street - via Reedham (cut short) (The signal is Yarmouths distant, Y56R) Off to the mechanical distant, just outside Brundal, this is for Chapel Road level crossing, and a few hundred yards beyond it is the distant for Lingwood station road level crossing - the operator didn't get this off for the drag but they did manage it for the normal trains so I have it on video. Brundall After that I moved to Whitlingham Junction - which should be renamed "The forest of Whitlingham" due to the overgrowth but I still managed to capture the final ECS Whitlingham Junction 47853, Rail Express, 82105 and 90010 on 5V28, 16:25, Great Yarmouth - Norwich C.PT. T.&R.S.M.D (16:57) via Reedham - ECS According to some p.way guys I was chatting with a month or so back, the crossover is due to come out soon. That's it for 2014, I might get out again but then again, I may not. I have all the units and signals if anyone is interested.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted August 31, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 31, 2014 Nice shots there Dave I managed to get to Great Yarmouth to photo the first one in the morning then travel on it. The plan was to catch the train to Brundall to photo the next one but at Norwich they terminated the one we were on so the loco was trapped at the buffers so we thought the next working was going be cancelled so decided to goto Cromer and Sheringham. I did then find out that the London Great Yarmouth morning service did run all the way. Anyway, here is the only shot that I took with the iPad at Great Yarmouth where they were having problems with the crossover at the buffer stop end of the station.
