Timtrains66
Well I'm back ! And boy is it good to be working on a layout again. This time i've gone for an end to end layout, space and money being a big cause, but also because i wanted to have realistic operations. This also reduces the size of scenery, as there is an non-scenic part where i can store trains and wagons. Well here are a few photos. More to come and more explaning to do ! sdw7300
Looks like a great start, similar size to my layout. What points are you usings? Looking at the first picture in your first post you have laid the points next to each other to create the ladder of siddings - what distance between the track centres does this give? The reason I ask is I'm planning the layout of my fiddle yard and to get 50mm from track centre to track centre I need to add a small section of "spacer track" between each point. If I can avoid this it will obviously make the shortest siding a bit longer - if that makes sence! Many thanks

The points are Peco Medium, which makes a space between the tracks of 45 ish mm Hope that helps ! Tim
Timtrains66
Hello again, Done a bit of work on the layout, mainly painting tiny stuff which can lead you to become like this little guy ---> The platform is coming along nicely, much better than the one at Craven Arms ! Few areas to paint where i've laid clay to fill in the gap and make the ramp at the end of the platform. The tunnel mouth is a peco, i've repainted it and weathered it up a bit, looks much better. The signal is a TrainTech, very easy to install and use. I used expanding foam for the hill over the tunnel and i've decided to use clay for the small hill next to the track, it's a bit easier to control than the foam ! This is where the second fiddle yard will be... one day over the rainbow.. This is the bridge i've been building, still a long way to go. I've just put the first layer of paint on. And this is what will be holding the bridge up And so for the painting... Lamposts, Yard lights, walkways you name it !

Timtrains66
Evening all ! Tonights mission, make the bloody lights on my class 56 work ! Being the older version of the model the connection between the frame and the shell is a doggy sort of system which dosen't work basiclly. So out comes the soldering iron for some precise work ! I've soldered the two useless bits together with a some wire and "HEY PRESTO" ! RESULT ! And a little reward for all this hard work Thanks for looking. Timtrains66
Looks great. What are you using to surface the platforms? Thanks I first put a a coat of paint on, dark brown, then whilst still wet covered in fine black ballast, tiped it on it's side to get the surplus off and then a spray or two from a water/mist applicator, or what ever they are called, to mix the ballast with the paint. Just remember to get the surplus of ballast off, otherwise it will look like the track side. Hope this helps. Tim
