Evening,

I have redone the class 08 trip working and return to a speed which looks a bit more realistic (see post #1017 for original version).

Cheers

Simon

Definitely more realistic!!!  Nice one Simon!

Made a start on weathering the MBA wagons which represent the Seaforth scrap workings.

Here is 2 of the 7 wagons which have been done.

post-6834-0-81510100-1515783729_thumb.jpg

And the 7 wagons forming the empty working back to the midlands behind 56070 running under caution. 08784 shunts the yard in the background.

Cheers

Some more wagon weathering to finish off for today. Following on from the scrap wagons, thought the Cawoods should be next as they are quite bright. The underframes have been washed over with brown and wiped around the numbers and data panel. The containers have had a black brown wash applied and again then wiped off.

The coal load is a cut down scourer sponge painted with black acrylic paint.

And heading to Seaforth behind 37710

Thanks for posting that pic of 37521 Dave, that loco may just appear on Dallam at somepoint!

As I have got my weathering head on I decided to tone down the hardstanding around the warehouse. This was another little job which needed doing before the first show but never got done.

First half done.

post-6834-0-74983500-1515875799_thumb.jpg

Second half in progress, dirty wash applied and being wiped off.

post-6834-0-72086400-1515875872_thumb.jpg

Wash wiped off.

post-6834-0-34982400-1515875914_thumb.jpg

See how it has dried tomorrow and if needs another coat. The roof of the warehouse could also do with toning down aswell.

Cheers

Hi Simon,

If you haven't seen this thread of mine it has lots of trains applicable to your time period

Hi Dave, thanks, yes I have been on that thread quite a few times, lots and lots of useful pictures, well all of them basically. I think when the additional fiddleyard boards are added in the future a rake of the HTAs will certainly be added. Also a rake of weathered National Power hoppers would look smart, along with some of the Enterprise workings.

Evening, got the last wagons of the Cawoods wagons completed this afternoon and evening (transfers, loads and weathering).

Here is the completed rake in action on a Walton Old Junction to Seaforth working behind Transrail liveried 56070 passing 150144 waiting at the signal (which as you can see has not been built yet!).

And here passing under Folly Lane bridge.

Cheers

Little bit of experimenting tonight. I have a few Farish VBA vans which although some got their sides repainted, the roof was sometimes left. So using a VBA I picked up cheaply in Railfreight livery, I have had a go at weathering the roof area to match the peeling affect often seen. Here is progress so far, may need a little more work yet.

post-6834-0-34752800-1516056131_thumb.jpg

The sides need a bit more fading yet and the Railfreight logo will need painting out. Also need to pick some finer wheelsets up.

Cheers

Bit more work done on the ex Railfreight VBA, replacement wheelsets fitted, Railfreight logo painted out, brake levers and axleboxes painted, these will be toned down a bit.

post-6834-0-84184500-1516143182_thumb.jpg

Chris called round and we ended up setting up a Freightliner shot. The 66 has failed and the 57 turned up to rescue it as 2 86 hauled Freightliners pass.

37216 heads south with the tail end of the Cawoods heading North.

Finally a clip of 86261 using the crossovers to access Warrington RMT

Van is booked for Stafford, just a few weeks to go!

Another video just concentrating on freight this time. Flasks, coal MGR and Cawoods, scrap empties, Freightliner, engineers working, Steel and finally the trip working to the sidings with the vans being propelled into position.

Right need to crack on with stock etc.

Cheers

As mentioned last night, better crack on with the last few items of stock ready for Stafford.

Tonight a start was made to weather 90028 in its SNCB blue livery. The body sides and roof have had a basic dirty brown wash applied then wiped off. The dirt on the roof needs to be built up along the middle section of the roof area to represent the dirt/copper/carbon build up from the pantograph rubbing on the wire.

Progress so far.

Posed on the Intermodal

post-6834-0-80861700-1516315867_thumb.jpg

The grills need highlighting again in a brown shade. The nameplates, arrows and plaques will be added after weathering is complete as I will probably catch them with a cotton bud and rip them off.

Cheers

Alongside weathering 90028, I have also made a start on weathering the 27 MGR wagons which feature on Dallam. As with all MGR wagons made by either Farish, Hornby or Peco, they are usually finished in ex works silver which after a few weeks on the mgr circuit soon turned a grey colour.

Here is progress so far on a HFA. The wagon was taken apart and the main body painted in a hand mixed dark grey matt enamel wash and allowed to dry. The frame was also painted the same but this was then wiped over with a cotton bud dipped in thinners.

The underframe has not been started yet.

post-6834-0-02749300-1516395485_thumb.jpg

Here is a comparison. My attempt on left, Farish factory weathering middle and clean right.

Thanks Scott,

Managed to get enough wagons progressed to stage a shot to check all looks ok under the layout lighting rig.

After:

As mentioned the underframes still need doing yet. The 60 looks quite bright and certainly not in the condition you would expect for 2001.

Hi Simon,

checking my photos in preparation for uploading some I've come across an interesting event.

On 21 December 2000 a fire in Littons Mill closed the low level line from then until March 2001 - all coals for Fiddlers were diverted via Edge Hill and then the low level to Fiddlers where a draw back engine pulled the train around the unloading loop. An interesting time.

Just reading back through the thread Simon and came across this post from DAS - vaguely remember this fire.  Pretty sure that was during the time when I was working for EWS and had to plan all of those, that fire turned the plan upside down in a matter of hours!  Often thought Latchford and the Warrington Yards/Bank Quay would make an interesting (if large!) model!

Now you've been using it for a few years, what do you think to the Code 55 rail from Peco?

Rich

Hi Rich,

The Peco code 55 has been fine to be honest. There are now finer alternatives available but the Peco has served my requirements.

Progresses a bit more on the 27 MGR wagons, handbrake levers picked out in white, buffer shanks in silver and a few had their axleboxes picked out in yellow and a couple in ews red.

post-6834-0-90557100-1516485267_thumb.jpg

Just need to make the coal loads up.

Cheers

MGR rake weathering basically done except for inside hopper but going to sort loads out first.

Here is the rake on a Liverpool Bulk Terminal to Fiddlers Ferry working passing the Cawoods Walton Old Junction to Seaforth.

Also thought better get my second class 87 ready for Stafford, talk about cutting it fine. This will become 87003 Patriot, just need to renumber, replace the damaged stripes, add a Dapol pan and detail, oh and get nameplates from Railtec 3D or Shawplan.
