RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 30, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2013 Looks quite good - how easy a job was it ?
talbotsteve
Quite a lot of cutting to the bodyshell, and new mounting points required. Plus a cab floor. Not difficult just awkward.
Sam Moss
I did one of these with a Bachmann chassis a few years ago. Sold it last year on ebay. Really wish I hadn't now. Might have to do another one some day.
cary hill
Some more detail on attempting this conversion here by Mikkel of this parish http://www.gwr.org.uk/pro94xx.html
RMweb Gold Dunsignalling Posted October 31, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2013 Nice job. I always thought the 94xx was Lima's best attempt at a steam loco and it sits well on the better Bachmann chassis. John
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted October 31, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2013 Hi Steve Wonderful job. Do you have a photo showing modifications to the underside of the body so that others can see what is involved should they wish to do a similar conversion? talbotsteve
Here as promised are the photos of how the 94xx body is modified to fit over the Bachmann chassis. It shows how much needs to be removed from inside the smoke box and along the insides of the shell. Also they show where new mounting points and spacers are required to hold the body in place. RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted October 31, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2013 Hi Steve Thank you, very useful photos. Hopefully we will see some more 94xx running on a decent chassis.
talbotsteve
Hi Clive, thanks for that, I've another 3 lima 94xx's here, but I'm wanting to build a 15xx first, however finding a suitable chassis is prooving difficult. I will probably use a ho us mogul chassis for my first attempt to get the wheel diameter and wheel base down. Cheers Steve.
84A
I have also slung a Bachmann chassis underneath a Lima 94xx body. I'd recommend anyone planning to do it to go for the Collett Goods 0-6-0 chassis in place of the 57xx/8750 chassis, as the wheel diameter and spacing is practically smack on. It provides a very good model (basically as shown on this thread), and am wondering why its taken Bachmann so long to cotton on?

I reckon Bachmann must have got the idea by now - they're probably just looking for a suitable time/spot in their programe?
steve fay
Nice job I did a few of these a few yearS back sadly I don't have any pictures. I put mine in my model shop and the orders started to come in. I added additional detail, lamp irons, etched plates, chimney, tank vents, screw link couplings, vac pipes, tank fillers and smoke box door dart may be more I can't quite remember now. It does make a nice model and certainly filled a hole in my GW fleet. All now sold.
RMweb Gold Mikkel Posted November 2, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2013 Looks good. Am I correct that the center wheel does not align with the splasher? On my old conversion it didn't, but maybe something has changed?
talbotsteve
Lines up perfectly on mine, cut the smoke box as much as posibe to move the chassis as far forward as possible. Thanks Steve.
