What are the smallest electrical plugs available to connect wires between the tender and the loco ? Does anybody do anything smaller than the Tamiya micro mini plugs ? I am not quite sure how big these are.

"And DCC Supplies also do micro pin connectors"

 They certainly do!

Have a look at...

I find these most useful as they are ready wired. They are available in 2, 3 & 4 way and have a polarity spot to avoid connecting them the wrong way round. Connection is firm and reliable.

Hope that's helpful.

The smallest connector you can use is probably the 1mm pitch JST connectors from Farnell. The system consists of sockets that are designed for PCB mounting but can be glued down to the tender and soldered to, and housings that take crimp connectors. available in 2-9 ways so can be useful for non-analogue applications too.

Those listed above will probably be easier to use though if you have the space.

I bought one on ebay similar to this and it is 27,5 mm long x 13,28 wide x 11,2 wide including the clip. I bought it for my car and it is too big for model railway use.

Have you considered using coaxial cable connectors , put a SSMCX socket on the loco and use something like a SSMCX

cable plug on a short length of 1.3 mm dia coaxial cable back to the tender.

They are about £2 ish each from Farnell.

There are smaller series connectors but you will need very good eye sight and a steady hand to solder the coax on the connectors.
