TangerineWizards
I've been working on an Ikea 'APA' storage box for sometime after seeing the thread on them in the box file sub group. For those that don't know, the APA box is a 70x36x39cm wooden storage box and a bargain at £11 from Ikea. I wanted something detailed to practice scenic bits and something to run trains on. I've a fair bit of Modern Image stock to use on it as well. I've recently just added some lights as well but the pictures aren't brilliant. Its taken about 2 months to complete with little bits done when time allowed. I'm quite happy with the results.
cromptonnut
I have an APA box waiting for inspiration - and you've made a very good job of yours. I'm assuming from the use of a Pacer that it's a OO layout?
60006
This looks great. Can't wait to see more. The forecourt area looks very good indeed.

TangerineWizards
Thank you all for the replies. They are very much appreciated. I was worried the post would fall in to oblivion with no responses at first! The gauge is 00, yes. It is simply a stretch of cut down peco flexitrack. I looked in to adding some point work or an extra line but it started to look a bit cramped. The forecourt is a recently purchased Hornby Petrol Station. I picked it up for the bargain price (when you look at the ebay sales) of £15 from Hatton's second hand cabinet in store. I've just noticed the pictures don't show that the road shown is actually a dual carriageway that I've just about managed to fit in as well. I'll try and add a few more pictures with some more stock over the next few days.
CourthsVeil
I have an APA box waiting for inspiration - and you've made a very good job of yours. ... Hi, Shortliner points to this post - maybe an inspiration for you…? Regards Armin Edit: … or maybe this one: klickme (well, Bob uses two boxfiles, but these together are not far away from an APA box) ?
TangerineWizards
A couple more photographs from a different angle. And a view of the dual carriageway that can't be seen in the other shots. It was a tight squeeze to fit it in! I've started another APA box which will be a bit more urban and a terminus station designed to be used with this box. TangerineWizards
Could we have some more pictures please? This is a lovely layout! You can, yes! I'm off over the next few days so I'll post some more shots. The second box (an urban terminus station) is coming along nicely as well. The ultimate aim is to have three boxes all linked up. I just haven't decided what I want to do in the third yet... Thanks as always for the posts.
pipparooba
what a great little layout you have there . i have a mate at my club that uses these boxes and was thinking of a narrow gauge layout but looking at the results of yours i may just push it back to 00 gauge. so photos of you next one would be great. . .regards ian
TangerineWizards
Thank you for the kind comments. 00 gauge is certainly possible. I find myself using different angles (like the roads for example) to make the space look bigger and more natural Some more photo's as promised: This is the other use of the forecourt area - a VOSA/Police check point, as per the signage. And this is my new venture - a Merseytravel PTE area urban terminus. Still a work in progress:
Swifty11
Excellent! How about a small freight yard for the third?
TangerineWizards
Excellent! How about a small freight yard for the third? Its a potential. Its just finding a suitably small enough freight subject that isn't just a TMD. Nuclear flask maybe? We will see...
cromptonnut
I'm mindblown that you are fitting standard OO in an APA box and coming up with plausible scenes, when I'm struggling to fit in an idea for an N gauge tram system with much tighter than prototype curves. Some great work here.
RMweb Premium Steve Purves Posted January 31, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 31, 2014 Inspirational.... Tackling my own APA project in N gauge at the minute (see thread on here). I love the ammount of detail you have put in. Sets the benchmark for mine!
TangerineWizards
Thanks again for the kind replies. I'd love to give an N gauge APA a try. I'll certainly be following both of yours with interest. I'll try post some more shots when it moves on a little more.
