Just saying "Hello" from the USA.

I'm resurrecting an old pastime, although it could be back into the deep end ... P4 no less ... enough to baffle the natives.

Now working on the yard of track and a turnout to practice some building and scenery skills.

I see there's a member with a garden railway fairly near me in Pennsylvania. Anyone else modelling British outline here in the States?

Be seeing you.

Hi Alan.

I suggest you look up the British Railway Modellers of North America. http://www.brmna.org/index.html

There are a lot of us trying to model Britain from a distance. They also have a list of dealers over here.

In fact, the of the 3 British modellers nearest me, one is working in P4.

I'm English, modelling US practice in New Jersey.

You'll soon figure out why......

Really? But there again, I'm not absolutely certain what you mean.

Clearly I'm going to be sourcing my stuff via the interwebs, although if you can advise me of a store supplying scenery and model building materials I'd be obliged.

Pip pip!

Depends on where you are in NJ, but The Model Railroad Shop in Piscataway is pretty good.

I have friends in Wilmington DE, so I get down that way quite often, typically stopping at English's in Montoursville, PA (Williamsport) and the various stores (now down to two) in Strasburg, PA

Please don't let me put you off modelling in P4 - more power to you.

It's just I've learned to love what we have around us- particularly New Jersey shortlines. Have you seen the Black River and Western at Ringoes and Three Bridges? Or the Morristown and Erie? Even the New Hope and Ivyland  just over the Delaware from Lambertville.

An advantage is you don't have to deal with cranky specialists in the UK or indeed worry (too much) about discrepencies in Gauge vs Scale. Plus American RTR is producing some of the best models anywhere.

I second Adrian's assessment of The Model Railroad Shop - they are getting used to us Brits in there. Both Phil Collins and Rod the Mod visit when in "town". They stock some great local titles in books and mags too.

Good luck with whatever you do, I'm in western Union County btw.

Best, Pete.

Live near Princeton and have cycled every back road and track for 100miles. There's a lot of railway archaeology around here.

Here's me on the Belvidere Delaware between Trenton and Lambertville.

So, yes, I know the charm of American railroads. However ...

I take it you've never been to a model shop in NYC??? ;)

Anyway, I'll take a trip to Piscataway.

BTW. The fact that PhilCo and RodMod are patrons is not a recommendation. However, Elvis and Diana frequent out local Italian ... Costello and Krall, that is ...

I only know of only one model shop in Manhattan - Red Caboose Hobby Shop, or something similar (not to be confused with the one in Colorado). Frankly I'd never set foot in there again... I'm still appalled by a people interested in Lionel.

Maybe the store in Piscataway is not for you; more Classic Rock oriented.

Have a good day, Pete.

Hello Alan and welcome,

Isn't coming across old abandoned railway junk fascinating?

Enjoy your stay in RMweb land,

Kev.

We'll soon have enough for a quorum.

... And then we shall take over the tri-state area....... ha ha ha (evil cackling)

Sorry, my son is watching Phineus and Ferb

Re-colonization is how I usually describe it to people at work! Given a choice I'd go for Trenton over Camden, but I'm all for starting, and perhaps ending, with Florida!

With a model railwayinator?

FYI I live in the UK but visit friends in South Jersey as often as I can (and recently that's not been often enough) and I have models for both sides of the atlantic. :)

How about GER/LNER/BR in P4 in NJ - a bit further north towards Paterson, though...
