mark axlecounter
Brierfield is going to be knocked down on Sunday this week just been told by a fellow signaller sad end to a L&Y box
mark axlecounter
All the signallers like this box it's got a cosy feel to it plus I could get on with modeling in there Mark
37038
It's a shame it's going. Is Chaffers LC being updated then, or will it still be 'Stop and pull the rope?
mark axlecounter
It's still the pull cord there but they are putting the infrared barriers at brierfield. All the crossing keepers have got other jobs on the railway which is good for them (I'm a relief signaller ) it was one of my boxes
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted March 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2014 This is an increasingly common theme now, as more boxes close. It's a pity that no other use could be found for it, and also that it's got to be demolished so quickly. Presumably it isn't completely unique, otherwise it surely would have been listed by English Heritage? I used to be a relief TCS at Preston, and this area was part of the patch. I well remember a 'Saturday night out with a difference' with a Preston crew, after I worked a Saturday late turn one day - I accompanied them up to Carlisle and back down the S&C in the cab of a 47 on a diverted express... great times! RMweb Gold 96701 Posted March 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 26, 2014 I lived in Brierfield and used to catch the train to work in Preston from there. I occasionally shared a platform with boxes of chicks and / or cress in the days when it was manned. Nostalgia isn't what it was. Sad to see the box going, even sadder to see the line singled from Gannow Junction.
mark axlecounter
We have 2 boxes going this year the other one is huncoat they were going to use it as a moms office but it's in the way of the new barriers so that to will be demolished but that will be at the end of this year.
