What happened to the 12 - wheel Pullmans in C1407. They look to be in a very sorry state!

They were owned by Bill McAlpine and went to Carnforth when the preservation project was abandoned.  According to the book "Preserved Railway Carriages" - published, by Silverlink they were sold to become part of a restaurant at Ocean Park, near Sunderland.  They were removed in 2017 and were moved to Barrow Hill from where they went to the East Kent Railway.  Their names are Rosalind and Padua, there is information on the web if you do a search for them

Ii saw them over 10 years ago at Sunderland and they were fairly rough then . Can't imagine another 7 years in a salt atmosphere did them any favours

The East Kent Railway stock list does not include them so they must have moved from there.

EDIT:- It appears they went to the  Folkestone Harbour station where they appear to be now. They may have been stored at the East Kent Railway for a time but I can't find any details of that actually happening.

J2896, my attention got totally taken by the colouring of everything except the wagons, one of the things that makes your photos so interesting, much more than just locos and rolling stock.

Thanks for posting.

I agree.

I was interested to see on the photo of Cramlington station, six cars, only one of which is silver.

Nowadays, silver or black.

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful set of photo’s of the Bulmers Railway Centre at their cider plant in Hereford, on the 7th April, 1974. In C1567, of Kitson, number 47, Carnarvon, you have captured a superb portrait shot of the locomotive.

The photo’s of Manchester Victoria, with one from the 22nd May 1971, with the rest from the 11th March 1989, are full of atmosphere and nostalgia. The first photo’, from the 22nd May, 1971, of the 09.55 Manchester to Pendleton, Bolton and Blackpool, is formed of two units, of class 104, with the first three car set having modified bogies to improve the ride, hence the white stripe, and has a Derby Lightweight, class 108/2 DMBS in place of the class 104/2 DMBS. And, of course, no white stripe for that car.

The Lincolnshire photo’s, with three from Bardney on the Great Northern Railway line from Lincoln to Boston along the River Witham, and two from Holton le Moor level crossing on the Great Central line from Lincoln through Market Rasen to Grimsby, are a superb set, oozing nostalgia again and are all of historic interest.

The first photo’ shows something quite rare, a complete train of Thompson non corridor carriages, with no interlopers, as hauled by a B1, on a down passenger train, at Bardney, in June, 1963. The ends of the carriages look suitably dirty.

In J064, at Holton le Moor, with B1, 61107, on an up goods train, delivering water to crossing keepers house, in September, 1963, and although the B1 is looking quite unkempt, the weathering would look good on a model.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

That first Waverley photo is a cracker. And lots of interest apart from the foreground train.

And the one of Lexden seen from the A12 exemplifies exactly the kind of scene I would live to me able to produce on a model. The backscene might be possible, butt those fields in the foreground would need pretty wide baseboard, even in 2 mm.

Great pictures again today David,  in C7411  the grey seems to extend lower than normal,  was that a Scottish variation?

It may be but I did see the same variation around Newcastle.

Good evening, David. That is a most excellent set of photo’s of Edinburgh Waverley station, with C7421, of 47714, on a Glasgow to Edinburgh push pull service, on the 12th April, 1986, being a particularly splendid portrait shot of the 47.

The photo’s of Edge Hill in Liverpool, on a dull Saturday in January, 1972, are a most evocative selection, and show that it can be a bit grim up north in such weather. The last photo’ is particularly good, and shows a grimy looking 304017, on a Liverpool Lime St to Runcorn service, and it is about to plunge into some particularly gloomy and grimy looking surroundings.

The photo’s of the Great Eastern at Colchester and Lexden, are superb, and brighten things up considerably after the visit to Edge Hill. In C2477, at Lexden, as seen from the A12, a hybrid dmu is seen on an up passenger train, in October, 1975. It is a great example of a ‘train in the landscape’.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

C799 makes an interesting 'then and then' comparison with a photo a friend took just under 4 years earlier of a more (in)famous train - IT57 on 11th August 1968:

If I'd been watching that train I don't think I'd have worn pale slacks...

Good evening, David. That’s a most fascinating set of photo’s of the Blyth and Tyne at Plessey Road level crossing, as on the 11th March, 1984, with track renewals underway. I’m not familiar with 37093. I see it has differing cantrail grills. Has anyone more information about those grills please?
And in the first photo’ of cranes DR 81312, and another one, unidentified, it is great seeing them at work on the track relaying.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

It appears to be unique and not built like that, happening sometime in the early 80's, but can't see wht as yet. 37093 was also unique in that it was the loco painted into 'Police' livery for a BR advert, and the temporary paint job wasn't as easily removeable as planned....
