Grangetown Class 101 (centre car Class) Saltburn to Darlington 20th Feb 88_C9353

I don't think there were any cl.116 TSL left at this time but might be a former cl.127 car. Although those units were Red Triangle coded (to keep hydraulic units separate from mechanical), they were actually Blue Square, so would be able to work with 101s without modification.

Another alternative could be a declassified 115 or 117 TCL.

@DaveF Must've been a thrill to catch KESTREL in use!

Did you have any idea it was out and about, or just pure chance?

In those days it was pure chance.

Good evening, David. That’s a splendid selection of photo’s of loco’s on the Midland at Butterley, from 1975 to 1980. In C4990, of MR, 158A, in April, 1980, you have taken a superb three quarter portrait shot of the beautiful locomotive.

The photo’s of Teesside, at Grangetown and Lackenby, are a most interesting set. In the last photo’ at Lackenby BSC, of 37254 & 37271, on a down light engine movement to the freightliner terminal, on the 14th April, 1993, you have taken an excellent photo’ of the 37’s.

What a most excellent selection of Switzerland, at Erstfeld, in 1988. In C9672, of Re6/6, 11606, on a northbound service, on the 29th July, 1988, you have taken a most impressive portrait shot of the locomotive.

Finally, the photo’s of High Dyke, are a superb collection. In J2513, your Dad has captured a splendid photo’ of a Class 46, on train 1A14, the 08:30 Halifax to King's Cross (08:50 ex Bradford, 09:20 ex Leeds), in February, 1971. The train details are from the Napier Chronicles.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I'd go for the 117, as the 115 were never gangwayed IIRC...

As always, "a like" is just not enough for these.

I particularly liked the "A4" in C2091..

(...Gotcha!)

..and the beautifully framed portrait that is C5079.

C1693 is 08 324.

C1703 is 55 008.

I wish that I could identify C1711. Maximum zoom doesn't quite cut it. Last two digits look like they might be 21 - in which case it would have to be 37 021. Most Saturdays in the 1970s I would have been around and have the notes to back it up - but May to August 1974 I was "missing, out of action" 😁.

C1702 puzzles me. I don't remember a 5D(anything)5 around that time, on a Saturday or any weekday. Curious.

I thought it might be 37022, but it’s just not quite clear enough.

I am not surprised you can't quite identify it.  I couldn't read the number when I scanned the slide and for whatever reason didn't record the numbers of locos I photographed that day either.

I wish now that both Dad and I had always written things down when we took photos, but we didn't and sadly I can't do anything about it now - it really is about time someone produced a Tardis which works and is affordable!

Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of Peterborough on the 27th July, 1974. In C1702, of a Class 47, on an ecs working, you have taken a well composed shot, and the special film on the cab windscreens can be clearly seen.

The photo’s from around the Southern are an excellent selection. In C3306, at Bobbing, with Class 423, 7861, on a London Victoria to Ramsgate service, on Saturday, 23rd April, 1977, you have taken a superbly composed photo’ of the train.

That’s a delightful set of photo’s of Edinburgh Waverley. In C9058, of 47482, on an Edinburgh to Preston service, on the 18th August, 1987, you have taken a superb side shot of the 47, and there seems to be a spotter in that first vestibule of the first carriage.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Those above photos two years apart shows how quick nature soon reclaims the land.  It would never happen like that in steam days with a few leaky ashpans to control the growth.
