winterbournecm
I popped upto Laira Jn the other evening to record 37423 pasing with 6Z40 09.39 Crewe to Devonport Dockyard flask service. These used to be very hush hush services, but since RealTime Trains now report its progress en route, the train is more visible to all. 15th May 2014
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted May 17, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17, 2014 That is a superb shot, Craig. Interesting that it only had the one loco (significant, as it was to prove, if reports that the 37 subsequently failed are correct...)
Jack374
Great shot of a great engine Craig! If it is kept secret, people will know within train spotting groups that it's moving anyway, because info will get passed on, so it kinda defeats the objective.... That shot would be even better if there were semaphores there instead of silly colour lights.... Jack.
David41283
I think one loco is acceptable on the "empties". Interestingly I reckon these two wagons have been left in the dockyard for 2 months as the 37 headed back light next day. I popped out for lunch from work on Monday to see 57008, 57009 and the two smart DRS escort coaches arrive at the dockyard presumably to collect the now loaded wagons and return them to Sellafield. Given the comments above regards the secretive nature of these workings it is interesting to note that the "empty" working and the light engine moves have all been visible on Realtimetrains, but unless the 2 x 57's have been holed up in the naval base for more than 2 days now the loaded return working appears to be a lot more secretive. It also requires the support coaches (armed guards?) and the contingency of two locos. A poor lad was given a shock when photographing the locos arriving at the dockyard on Monday when a police car screeched to a halt, blue lights flashing to see what he was up to. RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted July 30, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30, 2014 Those new flashy flask wagons are a lot different to the old one, which was built like the proverbial battleship and carried on 12 axles.
