tamperman36
I visited Mirfield station at the weekend and spent about 30 mins studying the Network rail yard and compound. The old shed staff buildings have been recently inproved with freshened up stonework, a new metal and glass canopy and tarmac yard around it surounded by galvanised security fencing. The compound alongside is much less inproved. It has several portacabins in, a couple of secure metal stores for plant equipment, some small metal storage lockers marked up with network rail markings that appear to be portable. Stacks of sleepers, small stacks of rail chairs and fishplates. There are a large number of cable trough sections and jointing boxes. Also placed around the site are several tsr boards and light sets. Recently added is a concrete pad on the main running line for ontracking plant equipment, on the opposite running line is a sleeper built ontracking point. MatthewEWS
Banbury Depot photos would be useful, could you post?
MatthewEWS
I don't suppose any of you have pictures of Westbury depot? If you do please post
LongRail
Matthew, Photos of Banbury Depot, you will see it is a rather large faciltiy but a long narrow site. The photos across the track show the mileage sidings, the closest one to the compound is used for Tampers but the maintenace staff arrive in a van and are not based at Banbury
Kingy365
Thanks, I currently have one transit in NR but I'm hopefully going to try a modification to make one into a tipper and also purchase the new Oxford Diecast NR Landrover Defender. I have a Hornby works office. The fence is in the post. Looking for a RTR or Kit Road Rail excavator, any one know where I could get one at a decent price? The sign should of attached now so let me know what you think Hi Matt, I can do road railer conversions- if you're interested then let me know- some pics of mine can be seen on http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/86350-birch-green-tmd/ Cheers, Chris

I am about to start a new topic on here showing my newest models completed yesterday. Looking forward to seeing your depot develop. Have you started on your tipper yet? Kind regards Chris
MatthewEWS
Hi Chris, Thanks, I am really pleased with how it turned out. I've side-lined the tipper project for now but hopefully it will be done in the near future. Thanks Matthew
Wrighty
That's a shame, I did e-mail Oxford to see if they were thinking of producing a low roof plain white transit, however they said they had no plans for it. Chris
tamperman36
Here are some pics of my micro layout featuring a small network rail depot.
MatthewEWS
Really like that, keep it up! Especially like that tipper, would be interested to hear how you produced that and some more pictures of it. MatthewEWS
MatthewEWS
Hello Everyone, Have some pictures of the depot which is progressing nicely. Image 1: Network Rail Landover and Skips Image 2: The Vans Image 3: Slightly off topic but the New Stobart Rail Van and engineers working trackside The base of the depot is to be improved as it currently looks bad. Also security fencing will be surrounding the depot after some more funds are raised. Once again any advice, comments, constructive criticisms etc. are all welcome. Thank You MatthewEWS
tamperman36
The crew cab started life as the oxford royal mail van, I cut the rear end off just behind the middle panel. I then made a new rear panel with rear window opening from plastic card, I created a rear chassis which goes through the rear panel and is glued to the inside of that panel. The twin rear wheels are from an old Herpa model Merc 715, 7.5 tonne truck which has been used for spares . The tipper body was built from plastic sheet and the headboard and taillift fitted. Then it needed painting and transfering. To create this type of van you need a low roof transit and oxford do not make a plain white one nore are any shown as planned so you have to start with the RAC van or Royal mail van. Thank You MatthewEWS Matthew, Like the signs in image 3 if you mounted the signs on very thin plastic card it would improve the appearance and look even better Signs are generally mounted with a grey background
tamperman36
The signs can be backed with thin card, you could glue the paper signs onto an old cerial box then when dry cut them out carefully kount onto the required posts then paint with a mid grey. You can use old rails painted yellow to make safety barriers like on my layout
MatthewEWS
Hi, Thanks for the advice. I am pleased to say I have re-done the signage, backing the signs and painting the posts of them as well. They look good and I hope to upload a new image shortly. Thanks MatthewEWS
tamperman36
I use my pc to make alot of my signs just using standard microsoft paint then try out different settings on my printer, I have a lexmark inkjet printer and I have a samsung colour lazer printer which I use for making transfers. If I need a sign I look up or try to look them up on google images.

MatthewEWS
Hi Everyone, Just a little help if I may. I have attached an image of an Oxfrod model I am thinking of purchasing however I need to know what would generally be on the rear of the trailer, I've been told by someone on here that it is for containers, someone told me plant and I was told not materials. So if anyone has any information about what these lorries usually carry on the rear (whether it be plant, materials, containers or other) please let me know! Thanks Matthew
