Gordonwis
Wey hey - was about to come here and post the information - beaten too it! I've already reserved all the stuff from Hobby search Japan! Note, I have reserved separate wagons not the whole set, as I can economise with containers I had already produced The priority is the wagons themselves to get smooth running vehicles - my fleet of 3D Sb wagons runs quite well on Kato bogies but not as well as an RTR one will, and my Lb wagons are from RhB Modellbahn and they need a lot of work to run well. This will be quite a lot of previous 3d spending down the drain but never mind!
cornish trains jez
Don't those Co-op containers run on the standard gauge network with the postal trains? If they do, I might get a couple of the wagons just to get the containers to add to my rake of Lgnss postal wagons.

Technically yes but the RhB ones seem to be used as vans most of the time from the distribution centre in Landquart and only get craned off onto lorries for the local deliveries. Also note these are 1/150 scale.

May be worth noting for reasons of compatibility with standard N-Gauge if that’s correct (I note @cornish trains jez is just after the containers, but I’m thinking more generally). I get the impression this is now the standard offering on the range other than with the GEX sets (and Ge 4/4’’’ locomotives?), with the alternative (either way round) included as spares, though not with NEM coupler sockets, as I understand it. Afraid I wouldn’t know if this is a declared official policy from Kato as the range expands or just what I’ve seen? Great to see freight wagons now being introduced; makes mixed trains an option as well. Jim Easterbrook
I think every Kato RhB item I've bought has had the alternative couplers supplied in the box. (I.e. Rapido in the box if Kato close couplers fitted and vice versa.)
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted January 29, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 29, 2022 (edited) Yes only the early loco 644 and coach GEX sets seemed to be rapido couplers only. The close couplers were a separate accessory for those two sets. 10-1145 644 +2 coaches 10-1146 GEX 4 coach pack Part number 28-186 contains 12 couplings and short diaphragms for the coaches plus 2 couplers for the loco. (Blimey it was Feb 2013 the first GEX set arrived and here we are nine years on with the first freight cars on the way from Kato) Edited January 29, 2022 by PaulRhB
Jim Easterbrook
Oh yes, I bought those two sets and the accessory pack of close couplings and diaphragms. (Memory like a sieve these days.) Every item I've bought since however...

At TrainTrax's price I'll get mine in Europe thank you. I did get the last two from Keith but I'm not paying another £29 on a locomotive that is a UK £88 model redecorated. A GREAT oppotunity for good vynil sides here I think.

As some may recall I've been doing repaints and / or 'pritt-stick paper' sides to obtain non RTR liveries since the the very first Kato set was issued so I'm all for doing things on the cheap. However I have already gone for the Hockey club variant RTR and have ordered the Buga from another UK source. With complex liveries such as Hockey club and Buga I don't think you can beat RTR, as however good an artisan side vinyl is , rendering the livery on the loco ends would be potentially hard to get right. Incidentally, I plumped for a UK purchase because I noticed that in Europe the Buga version is either unavailable or no cheaper than UK prices Edited March 2, 2022 by Gordonwis

Gordonwis
Another gem. Pricey but well worth it, as the rendition (of some very subtle colour blends and narrow stripes) is superb All my (and my wife's) favourite werbung liveries have now been made in RTR by either 'pure' Kato or as 'Noch exclusive' Kato. Follows the trend of Noch exclusives being supplied with only Arnold couplers

Gordonwis
Just arrived from Hobby Search Japan I bit the bullet and asked Hobby Search to send all my 'newly released pre orders' as job lot of the new loco, plus freight wagons (individual not the set) plus a load of spares (bogies and containers separately) I knew it would be 'over the limit' for UK import but was willing to pay to get the whole lot in one shipment. Lots of people are most keen on the new freight vehicles, but I was keen to obtain the new version of the GE4/4II as 618. It's one of my favourites as I like the 'script' place name and I have a favourite holiday chalet above Berguen station where I've had several very pleasant stays As with the 623 Glacier Express version, the graphics aren't quite as good as they could be. The depiction of the Bergun-Bravuogn name in raised shiny lettering hasn't really been captured. As you can see from my photos, it almost disappears in strong light as you can see from my photo (it is better when viewed in the 'shade' Edited August 5, 2022 by Gordonwis
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 5, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) Yep mine turned up too 😎 Bit of a struggle to get the body off the first time, Jim F also had that issue with his. I also installed a decoder and it worked fine until I put the body on 🤨 After taking the body off, easily this time, I discovered that the light bar was pressing down on the contact end and disconnecting the decoder! A thin plastic shim solved that. Edited August 5, 2022 by PaulRhB

Is this the Digitrax replacement board? On my old Ge 4/4 II the body shell wouldn't go back on properly until I removed some webs inside the roof that were pressing down on components on the decoder board where the original board was flat.
