RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 22, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 22, 2014 Made a couple of trees this afternoon and added some burnt static grass to the hill, really pleased with how it's coming along. It's still not dry yet but wanted to take some photos with natural lighting. I'll take some more tomorrow when it's all dry along with some close ups of the trees and bushes. Winter sun setting over Edgelane Junction. Cheers, Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 23, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2014 A couple of pics as promised now it's all dry, no modelling today, to much to do around the house As always thoughts and comments welcome. RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 23, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2014 What are trees, bought or scratch built? Looking excellent. Thank very much, the trees are strands off picture frame multi core wire. I've wrapped two-three strands together then seperated the individual wire strands to make it into a tree/bush shape. I've then painted them brown then added woodland scenics foliage. There's still plenty more to make so I'll do a 'how to' hopefully in the week. bill badger
Those bushes & trees, as well as the general undergrowth, look as good as any I've seen whilst browsing for inspiration for my own efforts. 'Greenery' is the one thing which, to my eyes, can make or break a layout. Looking forward to a 'how to' if you do get a chance.
RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 24, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2014 Wow thanks Brian and thanks Bill badger, great compliments which means a lot. I totally agree I think scenery is the make or break, I'll defo be doing a 'how to' hopefully I'll have it on within a few days. With this tree I tried to give the impression it was growing out and up from the top of the slope. Cheers, Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 24, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks Bob and Mike I'm really made up with how it's looking, I'll have to make a start on the two embankments next, plenty of bushes and trees on that one, so I'll make a start on them this week, with photos of the step by step as promised. Thanks again, Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 24, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2014 Thanks guys I was hoping for a subtle look, not to cluttered and as for the grass applicator it wasn't even on full extend!! Here's a link to one of the many pics by edgehill signalman (Chris) on flickr of the real Edgelane Junction in the late 60's it's this pic along with the rest of his excellent photos which I'm using for reference and inspiration. I've actually posted some of my photos on Flickr and Chris was quite impressed, which is a big big compliment. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/happyraildays/6046866115/in/set-72157627339905422/ Thanks again, Paul

RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 25, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 25, 2014 Hi as promised I've made a start on the 'How to' regarding the trees and bushes. I've started making a medium sized tree and a small bush. First of all for the tree I've started off with two pieces of picture frame wire. I've then wrapped the two ends together to make the trunk of the tree. I've then started to separate the individual strands. Working in an upwards direction I then repeat this process working up in a tree shape. I've then covered as much of the wire as possible with solder just to make it more ridged, also I find the paint sticks better to. For the bushes/shrubs I just use one piece of wire. I've then bent it in half and twisted it on the bend. I've then just separated all the strands in a more even upward direction. The two are now ready for soldering. I did a larger tree the other day so here's all three soldered and ready for painting. I'll try and get the 'How to' of the painting and adding the greenery before the weekend. RMweb Gold PjKing1 Posted November 26, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2014 Very nice modelling... Thanks Neil, goin to try a few other kinds of wire though and see which is best overall, although this is really good it's a bit to bendy when trying to add the greenery Cheers, Paul
