Hi guys,

Thanks for the bump and kind comments.

Bratton Lane will be at the Minehead show this Saturday 1st August - so I have been busy adding some bits and bobs such as the odd person, yard lamps, ground frames, etc. I have taken some photos but not uploaded them to the computer yet.

Regards,

James

Hi James

Just how odd are these people? We don't encourage that sort of thing at Exmoor Rail........

See you there!!!

Hi Richard,

Yes, hopefully we'll get more time to chat this Saturday. I was hoping to persuade my son to come too so I can wonder off for 5 minutes!

Speaking to Rob on Peafore Yard made me realise all day on my own will not be ideal.

Regards,

James

Hi all,

Right - I had 5 minutes tonight to upload some pictures of my recent progress.

First here are the aforementioned 'odd' couple grabbing a break:

And I've also added some Knightwing point levers:

Some clutter at the back of the factory (a skip is being filled and dirtied to also go here):

And I've also acquired some scenecraft yard lamps - ready to plonk down I'm afraid, but they are very nice:

I reckon I've got around 12 ish wagons to play with - as most will know I will need 8 at a time for my inglenook puzzle. Here is an iron ore wagon weathered, kadee'd with load:

post-7097-0-22664400-1438026318.jpg

I've spent a lot of time getting the kadee's set right and the right running resistance on the wagons (sponge glued against the axles). But having twelve or so will mean I can discard any troublesome wagons on the day.

I plan to take my green 33, blue 24, green 08, blue 35 and perhaps a blue 20 to the show - that is a mix of DC and DCC. I find the sound 25 a bit of a pain with the kadee shuffle so I might leave it at home!

Here is my newly dirtied class 35 - I'd already airbrushed some acrylic sleeper grime, but I've now discovered weathering powders and had a go on this one after practicing on the wagons - all sealed with some humbrol matt varnish:

Please come and say hello, and have a shunt, on Saturday if you are in the Minehead area.

Hi James,

it was good to meet up and have a chat at MInehead,

I was very impressed with Bratton Lane, the photos look good but it was even better to see it for real.

I enjoyed the whole show, it was a good day out.

cheers

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Very nice too meet and chat with you too. It was a great show, with a nice friendly cross section of the great British public! I had a lot of good feedback on the layout.

Hi Richard,

Always good to chat, hope your stand went well. I had a bit of time to have a quick walk around, but no where near enough!

As usual I remembered a spare everything, but left my camera at home! I did grab a couple of phone shots, but nothing special. I'll upload them when I can.

Regards,

James

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments - not a lot of progress post show - but I plan to add little bits of details as I go. I bought some extra details at the show and on a trip to Exeter the other day.....

So I have now added a few more 'ready to plonk' items - a pile of tyres and misc. boxes complete with cat!

I've also been hooked on weathering powders - I have a factory weathered 08 and 31 and decided to dirty them a bit more. The 31 is a little more subtle and is better to the naked eye (or with a 'real' photographer taking the snaps!) - but I really like the effect you can get with powders. I cover the windows with humbrol maskoll first, so that I can give the loco a cover of aerosol humbrol acrylic varnish after. I have been using matt - but used satin for the 31.

The powder is mostly 'black' with a lesser degree of 'dark earth' around the bottom of the body/under frame.

I like the fact that the middle of the side panels look faded on the 08 after I remove the black powder:

Hi all,

Blimey, its been a while since I posted on here, but I've been busy with life recently!

I did get a chance to go to the Taunton show and I was tempted by a new sign for the layout. I also bought some etched tools, benches, step ladder from Severn models. I hope to add more clutter before its next outing.
