Popular Post Andy Y
Not a single rumble of thunder but what a light show! The pics are of a back-building thunderstorm just off the coast of Boulogne last Friday night so I was about 25 miles away with a low sea-mist obscuring the view down to the horizon (which spoilt getting pin-sharp pics of the lightning, if it had been over land I'd have been doing a bit of storm-chasing)), the storm appeared to stay in the same place for about 6 hours with flashes every couple of seconds but very few of them were visible as forked lightning from my side of the storm. It helps being an addict to the Rain Alarm app (as well as Flightradar24 and Shipfinder.) Feel free to chime in with your interesting weather pics.
Mike at C&M
A bit of a cheat this one, but it did fulfil my ambition to photograph lightning. I videoed the storm in HD and then did a frame capture to get my shot. The storm was at Shanklin, Isle of Wight in early August 2013 For those who are interested in thunderstorms, the following link is a real-time tracking map for lightning strikes in Europe, USA and Australia: http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en Edited September 23, 2014 by 87029

I thought the location looked a bit too exotic for Stafford Here's one of mine from last week. Nothing dramatic, just hazy conditions around Sandown Bay.
Mike at C&M
John, The storm was filmed by placing the camera on a steady surface, in my case it rested on a jumper, and simply letting the camera 'roll'. Mine was shot at 1920x1080 resolution A decent video editing suite should allow you to capture an individual frame. It can be time consuming to get your still shot, but the rewards can be well worth it. And they make great desktops for your computer. RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted September 23, 2014 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 23, 2014 From the violent to the peaceful? This was one of the most dramatic sunsets I've seen, after a clear, sunny January day. A sunny but sub-zero start to Valentine's Day 2010 produced some impressive exhausts at the Worth Valley. After the frost melted, the air was still cold and calm enough for volcanic departures. A fine start to a NYMR Gala day turned to (unforecasted) heavy rain and low cloud in the afternoon, but I did get some atmospheric frames.
Andy Y
I've never though to try and photograph them, do you need anything special to do so, please? I had a bracket mounted onto a railing to save lugging a tripod around. I started with a wide-angle setting and worked out exposures and settled down to about 2 mins at f5.6 manually focussed just short of infinity and used the bulb setting to leave the shutter open until I'd captured a good flash. Eventually, as the storm stayed static, I could zoom in to areas of peak activity and correct the auto white balance by using the tungsten light setting to give a closer colouring to what you'd expect to see tending towards blue/violet.
