sir douglas
Bracing straps and rods, the ends of the (bulkhead is the right word?) castings had to be replaced after I botched the drilling. Next I'm doing the lid and the bracing cables 15
sir douglas
Axleb0xes, bufferstocks and lid. It appears hhet this version of the 14 ton tank didn't have the cables so I don't need them My main reference is the Tourret tank wagon book, which every 14T that has this kind of strip fastening, doesn't have the cables while the other fastenings do. Here is an example of each picked at random, though while writing this I think I've made a mistake with which kind lid my wagon should have which also seems to corrispond to whether it has cables or not A bit of terminology I only know now from researching this is "Saddle mount" and "cradle mount", I've gone for Craddle mount just to different from the previous tanks which is that the barrel sits on 2 length-ways timbers, while saddle mount is the more common way of 4 width-ways timbers with curved cut outs. 12
doilum
Next step in this tank wagon journey is to build one from separate plates of shim brass....... Edited May 25, 2023 by doilum Additional information 3
sir douglas
It was going to be finished in a fictitious livery until I double checked the book (which I confess I havent actually fully read yet) there is a mention of tanks belonging to Olympia Oil & Cake of Selby, no photo but there are in Tourret's other book I don't have. There is the Bachmann rtr which gives an idea of what it looks like I will need the cables after all to make it look right 12 1

Ruston
I was never going to do anything with that tank now that I no longer model O gauge and so I'm pleased to see that you have made good use of it.
sir douglas
Cables and chackles with excess length left on the ends for fitting but for now I need to redo the straps which each need to be moved a little towards the middle Also made a start on the Grimsby tank 8 5

I really like the way you have formed the bunker- beautiful job.
sir douglas
Another nice day at the guild show and again received a box of bits from Airnimal, this time in exchange for S7 wheels. The journey though was of course made a little tedious by the strikes and having go on the bus taking about twice as long and the B&B stand was the most barren I've seen it since that one snowy year at Kettering I happened to go to. Mr Dunhill's NBR Atlantic was magnificent to see in person and a Furness 20 on another stand nearby Back with the tank, its being painted with dark brick, the chassis has 2 coats while the tank still only has 1 12
sir douglas
Iv3 got some whitemetal axleboxes with their W irons cut off which were from the scrapped freelance bogie carriage and i also have many of these plastic W irons, so these were spliced together to make a usable set. On the left is a styrene jig to square up the parts while gluing Starting on the chassis 8
sir douglas
Rivets and supports fitted to the body so the underside can be painted before fitting to the chassis, of which had to have internal members since it can be seen and the cut outs are for the buffer & coupling piano wire 12

sir douglas
Returning to the works diorama, mdf buildings carcasses made ages ago were recently thrown away as not worth continuing with and replaced in styrene The gap between has been filled as i dont like the look of it anymore, the left building now has 2 roads 9
sir douglas
Having a go at a wagon sheet, ive got some black paper so why not try it. It didnt work out as getting it wet enough to sag and fold to the contours just made it easily rip. At least i tried. now i need to find where ive hidden the collection of Club and Tunnock wrappers i was keeping to do sheets 2
RMweb Premium Northroader Posted June 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2023 Try aluminium cooking foil, Sam, just flatten it, glue some thread on the back as securing ropes, then primer, Matt black, and letter. If you use a mapping pen for the letters don’t press too hard! 2
sir douglas
Tried it with 2 club wrappers stuck together since 1 isn't big enough, i'll try the baking foil after i run out of these The Railmatch dark brick for the tank wasnt working out. My dad went out to a model shop so asked him to get an oxide or tettacota ish paint. He got Vallejo's cavelry brown, the colour and consistency is good but i dont like the nozzle top so had to pour a bit out onto a pallete to use it

sir douglas
At the show i did most of the body ironwork for the Grimsby and started on the rivet heads, then did some more a few days later but got fed up of the tedium. Ive now got back to it, finished all the heads and moved onto the lids Nothing on the OCO tank other than a coat of varnish a few weeks ago Edited July 24, 2023 by sir douglas 9
