Ruston
Have you got a drawing, or prototype measurements to work from? If not I may still have the measurements that I took from a 100HP Huwood-Hudswell flameproofed loco from when I built one.
sir douglas
hi, i'm guessing it based on a side on street view of the Fernie and some measurements in Ron Redman's book like wheelbase and width, drawing it to suit the chassis, ive had to shorten it considerably to look right with the wheelbase but the bonnet has to a be a bit taller to over the block, so with all this squashing and stretching, actual measurements dont matter anymore, but thanks for the offer https://www.google.com/maps/@49.5244196,-115.055292,3a,15.4y,69.83h,85.43t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sPg_6WB8Y5YpiAWHtC5_fBw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DPg_6WB8Y5YpiAWHtC5_fBw%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D172.17613%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656 and a correction to myself, that should be a Bachmann 03 not Mainline, getting mixed up with the other chassis to work on after this one

sir douglas
thanks, the worst was only on Tuesday which cleared up with a cup of Lemsip and an hours sleep, Wednesday and Yesterday was just a bad headache, the main tiring part was not being able to sleep, which over 3 days i only slept about 4 hours in total, 2 of which after being knocked out by the Lemsip. ive had a proper full sleep and i'm back to modelling today, but still no camera Edited June 17, 2022 by sir douglas
sir douglas
no photos yet but i am working on stuff, modifying a Gloucester 6 plank into a Parkhill colliery dumb buffer and building a quirky little bogie van from a Bylines photo of Lyon's Greenford factory 4

sir douglas
sooner than expected. i waited a week for a gap in the heat to go into town and try cash converters for a camera, i got one which didnt work and had to take it back so instead got the same model as i previously had from ebay so had to wait another week for that to come, which was forcast to come tomorrow but its here today. The Lyons bogie as it is currently, ive had to make some assumptions since a lot cant be seen due to shadow or photo quality ive just repainted another previous wagon, the Halfmoon co-op Skytrex as was (middle one) and now, ive also replaced the brake gear with Slaters parts because it was very basic and chunky. its not done yet. it was done from this photo on the left ont he front page of Bill Hudsons vol 2 book Making a start on some of the Airnimal collection, starting with a Goucester 6 plank now modified into a Parkhill Colliery (some photos here). The buffers cut off and replaced with dumb blocks, the end door hinge moved from inside to on top, a short extension added to the top of the fixed end, the diagonal iron straps were added, the gloucester axleboxes replaced and the brake gear rebuilt to get rid of Slaters usual problem of the big gap between the wheels and the shoes as i got it, this is Airnimals photo since i couldnt take one and now ready for the lettering once ive finished drawing the stencil And finally, a LNWR brake also from Airninal, very good quality one-piece body casting and brass castings for the axleboxes, buffer stock, brake gear and chimney, fellow followers of his thread will be familar with it 15 1

sir douglas
here you go, its pretty basic as its all i can do fromt the photo. the wheelsets are from my old bogie carriage which as for now been decommisioned The Ackton Hall weathered, im now cutting wood for a load of pit props The Moyse got a suitable figure at Doncaster, the position of his hands fitted over the levers perfectly but he looked like a WW1 officer, i changed his cap and he looks right Nothing done on the flameproof for a while except getting replacement axles from Peters Spares. had to make up a jig for setting the quartering putting the new axles on 12

sir douglas
Deffors fiddleyard is turning into a wagon works again - From top right, The flameproof which i havent done anything onfor a week or 2 except the axles had to be replaced, which i got from Peters Spares - My first brake van ehich will now be repainted from HLR into ACPA - The LNWR brake now getting some paint - The Lyons, now painted and lettered, it also now has end hand rails. theres just the balcony steps to put on the solebars and some weathering. - Bottom middle is another from Airnimal, a half built Norths Staffs brake which so far all i have done is make the balcony end, the inside partition and paint in there before putting the end on - On the right is the Parkhill The colour for the Lyons is an assumption that it is the company's trade mark white and dark blue, this surviving Sentinel lorry for example. I'm using Tamiya X-3 Royal Blue https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DAhLvQhWsAEd8Wn?format=jpg&name=small To finish the NSR brake or Break as they called it, ive got drawing in a 1942 MRN from our library and got some photos from the internet Edited July 26, 2022 by sir douglas

sir douglas
Im stuck on the iron work for the NSR brake, different protoype and model photos have all got differences in the ironwork and i cant decide how it should be and ive now found out that the MRN drawing a few posts back isnt much use after i found out that there was a 10 ton and a 20 ton, my model looks like a 10 but the drawing is for the 20. The only photos i can find about NSR brakes are on Shapeways by the username 5D_Stoke https://www.shapeways.com/product/DWAAS4YHV/nsr-10ton-brake-van-body-double-window-4mm-scale A chance find came up on Monday of a second hand Slaters 8 plank, no brake gear, no hooks, 1 missing axlebox and the buffers were rusted solid. it came in bright yellow "Barrow Barnsley" like this; it was built with superglue and it was coming apart so i had to completely dismantle to clean up, but areas of the yellow flaked off so i decided to strip it off in the Dettol and do something else instead. The buffers cleaned up well and the spring still good but i wanst sure about the slightly damaged whitemetal stocks and instead of trying to clean the insides, i just replaced them with Parksides since i have loads of spares for some reason this is it after re assembly, with the buffers on the right and my scratchbuild of the missing axle box being made Already drawn up the Stencil, which is Joseph Locke, St John's Colliery, just west of Normanton station. I believe the cross is related to the Knights Templar who owned the nearby Newland estate founded by King John in 1213, it later passed on to the Hospitallers until the 1300's 15 1
sir douglas
just when i thought it was about done and ready for painting, i lost the brake lever i had picked out for it, the other spares arent quite right so i'll have to make one 6

sir douglas
i ordered some wheels and buffers from slaters, normally it comes about 3/4 days (even during lock down), after 1 week of it not coming i emailed them and they said give it another week, there is a lot of problems with Royal Mail, 2nd week still nothing and again emailed them to let them know, its now been 3 weeks and just got a call from them to say they will try posting again at no extra cost to me and they will try to retrieve the first one that's lost in the system 2 1
