I thought I can solve this !.

We had a X reg Morrris van at our depot from the same batch as the Crewe one. Somewhere I have a front view of it to solve ?

I can confirm the W reg were Marinas and the Y reg were Itals so here is my shot of an X reg van.

And a very rare motor on the railway, a North Eastern Region Morris LD 1ton van, reg. LDN901, no.MD 1101 N of Nov 1955. With a very impressive roof rack.

HI . i'm new to this forum. so may have posted in the wrong place. but can someone please tell me if a unimog was on the southern in the br blue day's ?. as i'm building a 3rd rail layout thank you.

I have records of a Merc. Unimog being registered by the Southern Region as KYH862X in 1981 as a rerailing vehicle. It spent most of it's life in Scotland where it had been converted to a P Way welders wagon. Probably being replaced by one of the Bedford / Bruff vehicles in 1983-4.

Some more detail may be available in one of the web sites covering departmental vehicles.

Show my railway ignorance here but what exact years were the 'blue era'?

In the interesting articles about runnning the BR fleet of vehicles in Vintage Roadscene the author mentions there was absolute hell on when he bought Unimog road railers because at the time every vehicle in the fleet was British . He was called into the Parliament to explain./ ( as were all government bought vehicles , those were the days when you could equip a massive varied commercial fleet with all British vehicles!)

Nice catch Andy.

That looks like a DB Schenker container/swapbody on a privately owned lorry. DB Schenker (and the older Schenker logistics livery, link here: http://www.gapgroup.com/content/images/schenker.jpg) trucks are quite common visitors to the UK, and they must have a UK base too as I've seen some UK registered ones.

Some pics here, http://publications.2evolv.co.uk/?userpath=00000082/00008126/00058282/ from the DB Schenker site

B R introduced the blue livery in 1964/5 which lasted till privitisation in 1996, about the longest lasting livery ever.

The late Gerald Burton was responsible for the Unimogs, but it would be some years before the foreign influence came to be common place, now of course not just the road motors but also the trains and the operators.

Hi chaps , out in Bournemouth for beers yesterday this bus still parked outside `cricketers` pub..REG on rear DVY232K...

A surprise there, you would expect a Southern one, but no it's ex Eastern Region. Would love to see it restored. Thanks YVM, keep an eye on it to see if it also becomes a yellow van.

We get quite a lot every day passing through the Tunnel, usually as 'wagon and drag', with a 7.1m swap body on each. Schenker have a UK subsiduary, but I can't remember who it is off-hand.

I found a web site the other day, or rather came accross by looking for something else, but, if you go through all of the vehicles, there is a large amount of Ex BR busses, vans etc, some are in dreadfull condition, but its worth a flick through as there are some purlers in there.

Some examples

The Leyland FG is a good, clear picture of one of the Dormobile 22 seat buses used by the P way relaying gangs. A useful shot for doing the conversion of the Base model.

Its a great site Travellers homes for all sorts of trucks.

Its nice to see the fg in Bournemouth ,lets hope it survives. I wonder if any other FG crewbuses survive ? never seen one on a rally field---yet!

The only one I ever saw was at Butterley about 15 years ago, the last time I was there I enquired at the road vehicle museum and was informed that it had gone from there to become a caravan somwhere.

The reason for their lack of survival could be due to their steel construction ?

Ah I see I didn't realise the panels were steel sheet , your second photo shows how this rusts away . I wonder if this is why you don't see many BR box/ parcel/egineers vans of any type in preservation considering how massive the fleet was.

Todays interesting find. Thanks to David Ford.

http://www.flickr.co...16/in/contacts/

A BMC FG dropside registered in the TVY###H series from c1970, A brand new Dodge G dropside, a Ford D of NCL as a driver trainer and that nice little 2 wheel trailer still in the pre 1963 crimson livery.

That's quick, I've only just put that photo on flickr!!
