We operated with modern stock until lunchtime then "Scotland 1980" diesels after lunch. I entered the "Graham Farish Cup" for working small layouts - which was deservedly won by Jo Alder's Newport Maesglas layout which is also on RM Web. We had a good day out and it was nice to meet so many people who'd seen the layout on RMWeb and came to have a chat. In other news there was a nice photo of the layout in the News section of Railway Modeller this month - advertising Exmoor Rail at Minehead where I am exhibiting the layout on 6th August. David41283 Posted August 4, 2016 Author Share Posted August 4, 2016 Evening everyone, I've spent the evening getting ready for the Exmoor Rail exhibition at Minehead on Saturday. I'm planning to run both Cornwall 2010 and Scotland 1980 at different points during the day. Please excuse these quick phone snaps in dodgy light. I've run-in and added couplings to my 2 Dapol 27s which really haven't seen any use since I've had them. My 24/1 has had a good run and is ready for it's first real outing. I've been adjusting and tweaking some goods stock - a mixture of 2nd hand, kit built or just old! All is working well now though. Moving back to the future I've been having problems with my 153's which were resolved by taking off the bogies and giving the contacts a good clean - they run nicely now. After all the track had a good clean it was tested by some slow speed running from my 08. All looks good to go for Saturday! Really impressed by Poldeen in the flesh, and the quality of weathering on your stock. I'm still learning about the real railway and it was nice to sit (it would have been a bit low for me otherwise :-)) and watch the multiple moves available. I know you were the first to admit the activity was a bit intense for a remote terminus but it certainly has a lot of operational interest. Nice to speak to a lot of people who'd seen the layout(s) on here - thanks for saying hello! I only took a couple of quick snaps of my corner of the show Until around 4pm and the last half hour, when I persuaded the chaps from Salisbury club running Wadebridge to run some guest trains on their excellent layout. They were very nice and agreed to let some of my stock stretch their legs a little more than Poldeen allows. A "2010" version of the Bodmin china clays.. I had a nice surprise this evening when I got home from work, and found a complimentary copy of this on the door mat: It looks a great read with some interesting articles. A small mention of Poldeen and a photo from the Railway Modeller shoot back in February. Poldeen should be in the main magazine in the spring 2017. David41283 Posted March 31, 2017 Author Share Posted March 31, 2017 Thanks for the positive comments. There was a nice photo of Poldeen in the NGS journal which landed this last week. (and another of my layouts on the front cover). Poldeen has been stored in a cupboard since the autumn, but I have plans for a "re-visit" of a few aspects of the layout - a new station building, goods shed etc.. but these are a long way back in the queue of other projects for the mo. I love the portability of the project but it is no gimmick, the standard of modelling is superb Well done in getting your credit in the Peco book and look forward to reading the RM article when it appears. I was aiming for Devon/Cornwall 1980ish, but I've only really got one loco which fits the bill, so 25238 is in all of these! I have added a classified add on the N Gauge Forum (awaiting approval). I am keen to avoid ebay at all costs - I would much rather sell via a modelling forum. I am looking to achieve as near as possible to £500, looking at the prices on ebay this doesn't seem an unreasonable hope. Please feel free to PM me with an offer if you're interested. Any buyer must be able to collect from me in Plymouth or meet within a reasonable distance. I don't want to risk a courier. All the details are in this thread, included in the sale is the controller and AC adapter so it is a complete package, just no stock. The road vehicles are fixed down, so will be included. I have stuck an "as seen in Railway Modeller" badge and a couple of exhibition logos in the lid. Thanks for all the interest - it's been a great journey! I was chatting to the chap in Chris' Crafts and Model Railways in Plymouth earlier this week, who said that there is a "sister" layout to this one, built and finished by the same chap whose embryonic project I bought. It is apparently a bit bigger and is owned by the North Cornwall and Devon Club. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? The only change has been to add a push button to control the fiddle track so it hold a railcar while loco runs round.- Easy job given your excellent wiring ! The layout also got to a show a Leamington a couple of years ago and had been a regular at Dapol open days until Covid saw club cancelled. Fun point on Sunday just gone layout ended up in the office for the day. The advantage of the design of a layout in a box is that it is so easy to take on the bus/train and travel light. Re reading the thread was good as I spotted the PDF for the timetable so will try it out at the Club in a few weeks. Handling the stock is an issue but not a big one for me. I guess some N gauge loco lift type things would help at some point. The Dapol couplings - main reason for taking to the club open days was to how how easy to install and use, really make the layout for hands free fun! Before lunch it was banger blue period and after it was 1994 plus with 153s amd 66 and 68s. The N soc hunslet shunter and "leased" 14029 in blue did the docks branch transfers - bullets silver and MOD bullets as trade. DRS 66 on road learning duty. Rusties Cornish Railways 37207 and fantasy black 22 and D600 showed up for an open day along with the large logo 68. Some pics on Warley club FB page. The layout proved to many a good play value possible and you do not need 25 feet of O gauge end to end or 10 X15 foot roundy 00 for a bit of simple fun.
