Pint of Adnams
Although mentioned in the Sheringham model shops thread, I thought it time it had its own. I've switched from Hatton's to BVM simply because it's nearer, well-stocked, neatly laid out, and Susan the manager is very helpful and knowledgeable. It's not the go-to place for bits and bobs (that's GE Models in Norwich) but deals in the main 4mm and 2mm proprietary ranges including Peco as well as items more likely to be attractive to casual riders of the NG railway. Prices are competitive with the box-shifters, a reservation service is now being offered for new releases, mail order is accepted, and the profits are ploughed back into operating the NG railway to Wroxham. Stocks of the Hornby J15 were plentiful, available before Hatton's and priced slightly lower to attract East Anglian/Great Eastern modellers. There may still be some left... www.bvrw.co.uk/models/index.asp If ever you are on holiday in Norfolk, it's accessible, has free parking and you can disguise a visit by suggesting a train ride (and boat trip at Wroxham) for the family... DavidR
I've bought a couple of items from them: a Hornby 72xx and a Bachmann Dukedog. Prices were compatible with the 'big boys' and BVR is only 15 mins. away by road. More power to their elbow!
RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted March 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 29, 2015 As another satisfied customer of BVM I am delighted to hekp them out by adding this information. They have just gone live with an e-commerce website at http://www.burevalleymodels.com/ Recommended!
loickebros
Agreed a good outlet i have picked up a few bargains over the years whilst on holiday in the area.
Pint of Adnams
Thanks for the tip about the e-commerce website. As a regular recipient of their new and bargain e-mailings I'm surprised that I've not (as yet) been updated by that means. Perhaps they are holding back to the April e-mailing. It was only a year or so ago that all transactions were registered by hand and the till merely added up the amounts...
RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted March 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 30, 2015 I found out via Facebook, they put updates on there from time to time
Pint of Adnams
In my inbox on Thursday was an e-mail attaching the latest 'new in and bargains' lists for all scales plus the belated announcement of the e-commerce website. I registered on Friday, placed an order, and took delivery of it today - Saturday - Royal Mail to be signed for. I also received a 'phone call following my order placement to advise that some other pre-registered items had just arrived and would I like to add them to the order to save postage, but I opted out of placing a further order for those as it's the end of the month and the outflowing of cash required some management. Excellent service, and you no longer have to visit East Anglia to experience it.
rembrow
Thanks for the info about the BVM website. I was last in the shop in October when we had a hired cottage near Holt, Norfolk and was amazed by the range of stock in the shop. Came away with several coaches. Went on the website today and found a Dapol '00' maroon Western - Western Fusilier for only £85 and to make things even sweeter, had an e-mail from BVM within an hour to advise of the dispatch details, now that is good service. Unfortunately I think I bought the last Fusilier.
rembrow
Must add a postscript to my earlier post about my first use of the new Bure Valley Railway Models website. The order was processed in 30 mins which included packing and sending me confirmation with a Royal Mail sign for code. The order was delivered this morning at 0830, which meant it was only 18 hrs from website ordering to delivery, quite a spectacular achievement, however more than that, on my receipt was a handwritten note, a) thanking me for supporting the Bure Valley Railway, b) thanking me for my order, and c) advising me that my loco had been test run and checked before sending. Now that is going the extra mile and I'll certainly use their website again. Many thanks BVR.
andyram
I agree that this is a fantastic shop. I didn't realise how good until a chance visit to the Bure Valley about 4 years ago. I spent a fortune in there, and again last year. They always have a wide range of Hornby and Bachmann. On both visits I have found items in there that I have not found anywhere else. Guest
Sadly BVR shop was subject of a burglary https://www.facebook.com/burevalleymodels?fref=nf&__nodl As Shaw Taylor used to say "keep em peeled" I just read about the theft after paying their website a quick visit: http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/model_train_sets_stolen_from_bure_valley_railway_1_4092742 As far as I'm aware, the profits from the shop are ploughed straight back into the upkeep of the railway itself, so if anyone is aware of any Hornby or Farish sets being sold for a silly price, do let the police know. Very helpful staff, and a brilliant selection of items. I'm sure they're gutted. Reading the article, I get the impression the thieves were disturbed by the alarm system. If they'd had more time, the shop's loss could have been much, much worse. Hopefully the low-life didn't bother to cover their faces and remembered to smile for the CCTV. Pint of Adnams
Took a run up there yesterday to collect Hornby's recent releases of Gresley and Thompson non-gangwayed coaches in the maroon livery together with the Class O1 that had been put by for me against my previously-submitted wants list. No panic here over stock availability, new items being already sold out (or not yet supplied as is the case with some others), and I also picked up 3 Bachmann grain hoppers in BR grey I saw on the shelf - all at competitive prices too. Susan told me that the 25th Gala Weekend for the railway had gone really well, and my next visit (or postal order) will be for the eagerly anticipated 'Clauds' due sometime next month. Check the BVR website for stocks and also for bargains www.burevalleymodels.com/

Guest
Paid a visit on Thursday for some flexi track. Got a 10% discount as a "regular". Blimey. Not sure of the Norfolk definition of regular... I only pop in about 4 times a year! Highly recommended, as always.

Guest eddie reffin
Absolutely top notch service from BVM. Ordered some Farish Mk1 blue/grey BGs (otherwise known as hens teeth!) for £20.83 each, yesterday morning and was extremely surprised when they turned up here in Inverness 24 hours later. Definitely will be using them in the future. Usual disclaimer- no connection apart from delighted customer.

RMweb Gold CovDriver Posted April 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2016 Over the Easter break I noticed that BVR Models had the new Hornby class 08 in stock (08489) BR Blue for a very reasonable £99.99 I ordered it on the Saturday and was delivered on the following Wednesday now that's excellent service consdiering it was Easter weekend and also a Bank Holiday on the Monday. The loco was well packaged and labeled fragile whcih I've notice not many shops do these days. I will be ordering from this shop again especially as the loco was marked up at £119.99 on the box and reduced to £99.99. Cheers Colin
Guest
Just had the April 2016 "Bargains" .pdf drop into my inbox. Website doesn't appear to be updated yet and still shows the November 2015 list for download. 3 versions of Hornby's 2HAL are priced at £85.00 which is very good value. The BVR often features prices better than, for example, Hattons and it is nice to have such a shop in the area. Well worth a visit.
andyram
Whenever I holiday in Norfolk, the Bure Valley Railway and the Aylsham gift shop are a must visit. It is the most well stocked model shop I have seen. It certainly stocks the best range of Bachmann buildings.
