I use a Speedlight 550EX and L lenses.Before that I had a little G5 and all my Canon software has worked glitch free from day one on mac g4's and ,iMacs G3 through to a MacMini and a 2011 iMac on all my subsequent Canon DSLR's .I use Canon DPP to process .The link between the camera and the speedlight should be a firmware issue not a software issue and maybe a reboot from a firmware upgrade might help .
