Allenik TMD and Freight yard

Deltic Man

Recommended Posts

I have decided to start a layout topic which I originally started on the old RMWEB but to be fair I never really added to it, so here goes:-

My layout breaks most rules as I have one rule which is "Rule 1 it is my layout so I have final say" and it is not based on anywahere in particular, so I apologise in advance for the perfectionists out there.

The layout is on 2 levels connected by a spiral.??All boards are from WhiteRose Model Works.??I am attempting to model modern image but I do have a quantity of kettles which I still enjoy running.??

The plan of the layout (sorry no drawings as it is to complicated for me) is set in urban areas with a station and a large goods yard with a depot on the top and then on the under boards I have a large fiddle yard with a large depot attached.??Also on the top level is a freight liner container depot.

Most of my stock is ready to run and I am going through the process of getting all my locos weathered and some re sprayed.

Thats enough words I will now add some photos, please feel free to comment!

PS. I will also add lots of pictures over time of my loco and rolling stock fleet

PSS My modelling skills are not the best but I give it a go!

Crikey, Deltic Man! This is some layout! I counted 16 parallel tracks in one photo there. How are you going to reach across to uncouple right the way over there? You claim your modelling skills aren't great, but your ambition in such a big layout is huge! Well done!

Hi

The only way I reach is because i am six foot four and sometimes it is a stretch at that. I will post some more photos soon as the layout has moved on a bit from these originals, still loads of work to do though! (isn't there always?)

Hi Everyone

Thought I would add a few more pictures of the layout and the progression made.

The main area of work is the area covering the spiral and the main station.(Also started some ballasting, loads left to do, oh and it needs a bit more weathering as it looks to new.

Please feel free to comment.

Also added pictures of other areas such as depot scene, gas works and viaduct and the town

I hope to add some pictures of some of the locos and stock soon

Cheers

Nik

As promised please find some of my stock and locos. I have mainly ready to run stock but I am gradually getting weathering and repaints done on them by Jon and Peakdaleworks and it certainly changes the way they look.

Also the RHTT was built for me and it looks great between 2 37's (probably needs weathering at some point as it looks a bit to new!)

Cracking layout Mr Deltic Man..... Wow

Can I ask

 What the dimensions are for that tasty Spiral....?

 What the cost might have been - maybe not the 4 circuits you have - do you know what 2 circuits might cost?

and

 Why no Deltics Mr Deltic Man?

Is this why the last one never got far ...... did nosey people keep asking questions?

Hope you can keep this up - looks great fun

Thanks for sharing

Gees you havn't just laid a track or 2.... how many boxes did you go through? :)

I agree with you regarding reach (personally standing 190cm tall we do have some advantages) though I do draw the line at 1100mm.

I am sure that this will make it into one of the mags as a layout that never leaves home! Extremely impressive. You have channeled my thoughts on the use of levels and gradients. The White rose baseboards and spril make it an easier prospect to get a even gradient.

A great looking and no doubt operating layout.

All the best

Hi Stuart thanks for the comments

The spiral is about 2metres long and 1.1 metre wide quite a size. Mine was built bespoke for my layout and therefore cost quite a bit but I was quite specific about requirements i.e small gradients so most things will go up it. Have to say Bachmann and Hornby diesels have no problems.

Best advice is to contact Whiterose models they are great guys and very helpful they have price lists for standard spirals but they need to know about your layout and the space you can fit the spiral in and how high you need to go etc....

As for deltics they don't call me the Deltic man for nothing please see photos, 2 sound 2 non sound and one lovely limited edition. TO be fair all need weathering and more detais to be added a future project for Jon at Peakdaleworks!

I can think of one word to describe this layout...

Outstanding!!!

3 things I like about it

-Multi level so interesting operation

-Modern Image, lots of EWS and DRS diesels

-There is lots of 60s,it could be toton there is so many! :D

Great layout and with scenery will only get better.

Lewis

What a layout, I am in a state of awe just looking at the multi-levels and amount of track you have laid!

I now feel better about having so much on my layout, if and when Mk2 actually ever gets started, currently in study mode for power buses and the likes...... :)

Carry on the good work, I shall watch this with great interest. B)

First thing I thought when I saw this- well cant type it on here but it rhymes with clucking bell!

That is a seriously impressive project by anyones standards- are you doing it all yourself? looking at the ballasting and painting railsides is just making me shudder! - does look like its going to look pretty as well as being a big trainset- not everyone does that B)

You appear to have more stock than the average modelshop too! - like the rail blue stuff & deltics, obviously!

-looks like you've several years work there- amazed!

Glad I'm not your bank manager

Hi

Yes i'm doing it all on my own seemed like a good idea at the time! I have lots of stock probably too much and it does span all the eras but then I am just hooked on the hobby.

The ballasting is the dreaded job, I spray the rails with the airbrush and then ay the ballast but it still needs weathering in to look a bit more realistic.

Thanks for the commetns will try to put more pictures on as I progress with it
