cornish trains jez
Great progress......I can't wait to see it running. Me too! Hopefully that will not be too long now.
Colin parks
'Like' does the latest pictures no justice Jeremy. This is going to be an outstanding layout. Can you actually lift it? I seem to remember you are building this section on a 6ft plywood board- is it braced or supported in any way?. Colin

I seem to remember you are building this section on a 6ft plywood board- is it braced or supported in any way?. Colin Hi Colin, The station throat board will be quite heavy once fully completed. There is some bracing under the board but currently it's only minimal. The reason I have built it this way is that I didn't want the bracing to interfere with the multitude of turnouts. So once the turnout motors are all in position, I will then strengthen with further bracing around them and it should result in a very sturdy structure. The station train shed board will be in two pieces as it is only straight tracks so no turnouts to consider. Best regards, Jeremy
Popular Post cornish trains jez
Good evening all!! It's been a while since I last posted so thought it was time for an update. Unfortunately, the track work has not progressed as I am still waiting for the association shop to restock the items I need However, Euston in general is still progressing and I've been concentrating on rolling stock while I await stock replenishments! So here is what I have been up to over the last month or so. The 317: I've now finished converting the first three cars and I've also now stripped down the second driving car. The TSO and MSO have been primed and have had the blue and grey stripes applied. I also had the red stripe on but the MSO and TSO didn't look right so I started again and I'm much happier second time around on the MSO with just the TSO to do. The MSO has different bogies to the rest of the train and they are very similar to the class 158 bogies. Queensquare (on rmweb) kindly donated a class 158 to me and I've replaced one of the bogies already on the 317, and with some modifications to the mount, it fits quite nicely. However, it sits a little high still and despite filing down the mount, I'll need to replace the wheel sets with some 5mm diameter or similar wheel sets to bring the height down a little so it sits at the same height as the rest of the unit. Overall view of all four cars The TSO: The MSO: The second DTSO (still needs converting): Here is the retro 86 I've been working on. Last time I posted it was in it's primer. I've now almost finished painting, however I need to touch in a few areas and also sharpen up the yellow warning panel as I slightly messed up the masking and it's a little wonky in places. So a re-mask will be necessary and a respray of the electric blue around the warning panel. Then just transfers, varnish, windows back in and a little weathering. Quite pleased so far! A work in progress is 86240 "Bishop Eric Treacy" in her 1988 guise of Intercity executive livery. It's a little out my 1989 timeframe but there is a reason for this. I plan on having her in a fixed MK2 rake (with MK3 buffet and MK1 B/G) with a surrogate HST DVT as it ran in 1987/1988 during tests and in service before the MK3 DVT's were introduced. I've found a couple of photos of this train in service so had to model it for the layout to give some added interest. And here is the Virgin liveried HST DVT that will eventually wear executive livery as in this photo print out (posted by John Webster on Flickr). Hope I'm not infringing copyright with this! if so John, I'm really sorry and will remove it immediately! I bought the Virgin HST book set to get the buffered DVT so if anyone would like to buy the rest of the set from me (Powered HST power car and two MK3 coaches, one 1st and one 2nd and the box) please PM me and we can talk prices. I've also nearly finished insulating and painting my garden shed which will permanently house Euston when I'm not at exhibitions (albeit with a half train shed and a permanent "shed" fiddle yard) which will allow me to work far more frequently on the layout and also, most importantly, play trains! I'll have to build a seperate "exhibition" fiddle yard and the other half of the train shed. Last but not least, and I've saved the best till last, I've just found out that we are expecting our second baby so we are really excited! This means I need to get as much modelling done between now and October! That's all for now. Best regards, Jeremy

Pete the Elaner
Nice work. Big, ambitious projects like this are always hard work. You don't reach milestones very frequently but when you do, they are hugely rewarding. I doubt you will ever do something quite like this again. My project has similarities...It is based on the next station along the line, but in 00. Enjoy sending time with your young family. Don't be afraid to put this project on hold. You will come back to it with more enthusiasm.
RBE
Congrats Jeremy. I know how families can impact modelling as I have 3 young children (although 2 of them are now getting not so young any more). As for using 158 bogies on the 317 power car, I did similar in 4mm scale with my 318. I tinkered a little with the Bachmann 158 bogie frames but they looked great. Karhedron
I think a 91 had visited Euston on a couple of occasions in the early 90's and I've seen a photo somewhere in a magazine and on Flickr of it on test when the WCML was considering the intercity 225 sets. Yup, it definitely happened. The set went at least as far as Carlisle. The class 89 was also tested on the WCML although I am not sure it ever made it south of Crewe. Still, always Rule#1.

People keep teasing us and saying we might have twins as there are twins a few generations back in both sides of our family. Whatever happens, it will be a lovely experience. I could have left the 150 bogies but it just wouldn't look right. the 158 ones just needed a little modification and they look the part. cornish trains jez
Hi Jeremy, Liking the progress on the stock and the 317. Congratulations on your news, two future operators for Euston? Cheers Simon Thanks Simon. Yes, two future operators for the layout....or maybe even three.... who knows! The rolling stock is coming along nicely now and glad I got into airbrushing as it really has enabled me to create the loco stock and liveries that I would like running on the layout. Watford Junction in 4mm? Nice, but I don't have the space. I am modelling South Hampstead. I don't have a layout thread but maybe I should start one. Pete the Elaner
1930s/40s, which I am working on now. I have a 2nd set of boards for the scenic section so I can model it in early 1990s too. I always intended to do both. I was going to do this one first but took the easy path by doing LMS first because there is no OLE. If it was not for the scale difference, it really would be ideal to link the 2 layouts together. We would just need someone to do Primrose Hill shortly before closure. GordonC
June 1993. Intercity ran a number of 'specials' for invited guests only between Euston and places like Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow etc, using a full 91 set. Just remember to have a 90 ready on standby for when the 91 fails!..... https://www.flickr.com/photos/tunnel_one/5559317260 Cheers, Paul would that have been planned for any reason? just the Class 90 looks a bit buffed up too. It wouldn't have been for traction knowledge/route knowledge purposes perhaps? Presumably if the Class 91 and Mk4 set was there then it must have been passed for route clearance
Popular Post cornish trains jez
Good afternoon, Well today marks the day for a big step forward for Euston. I have finally finished my shed and today my dad came over and helped me build all the supports for the layout. Here is the the shed with finished layout board supports And here are several shots of the layout in situ. I will need to make some adjustments to the board to allow for the tracks to leave the station throat and curve around into a "shed based" fiddle yard. This fiddle yard will live permanently in the shed and there will be a seperate exhibition fiddle yard. To the other side will be a half train shed, allowing me to run trains when the layout is at home. The other half of the train shed will be built purely for exhibitions as I don't have the space for it in my shed. I always knew that I would need to add another piece to the far side of the baseboard (platform 17 side) to allow for the tracks to leave the station and I'll trim around 10cm off the other side With the layout now permanently erected, I hope to make some good progress over the coming months. Best regards, Jeremy
