Hi

We are now meeting on Saturday afternoons now as well - primarily to work on our older 00 layout which needs to be updated. A new thread will be created when I can get some photos.

Anyway, I used the opportunity today to take some photos along the fence. The trees are coming along nicely, so hope to get these finished for Tuesday! We've decided to remove the printed brick paper around the turntable well - didn't quite look right, so we will now painted 'concrete'.

The trees (the first few anyway) have been finished today! The only problem being the hairspray to fix the flock to the trees being done in doors today due to be too cold, not going down very well with SWMBO!

I will get these 'planted' on Tuesday.

Well at least the layout will smell nice!!

The hairspray was bought especially for modelling!

I don't like the smell myself!

The trees have been given a final spray of matt varnish (as recommended by Gordon G) today and left in the garage (at least the garage may smell better).

I will get these planted tomorrow!

Lookng rather good with the trees.

My other half found some odourless hairspray in Poundland for me that I use on the static grass to hold it in place.

Ian

I've found that the cheapest and therefore stickiest hairspray works best. As suggested by Gordon in his book, I've also given a final coat of matt varnish.

The extra height just improves the whole perspective, looking forward to seeing even more trees soon.

Mike

Thanks Mike,

We won't be adding any more trees along the front - although this may change later. We want to add plenty of trees along the rear in a couple of places.

The platform edging has been painted and needs finishing off.

Further 'oil' and 'muck' has been painted around the engine shed and other areas along the track where the locos would stand - photos to follow next week.

Hi a few photos taken today.

We will be packing the layout up next week in readiness for RMWeb Members Day at Taunton for the following Sunday. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to take some photos with the Southern stock!

Well, we've had a reasonably successful day at Taunton.

A few problems that need to be sorted, but at least today has given us a good opportunity to highlight a few of these.

1) Packing arrangements - e.g. end packing boards and bolting together the boards needs to be improved. We had a few minor issues with aligning the bolts and some quite tight, so will need to run a tap through the fixing plates.

2) Point motors - the SEEP motors will be changed for servos - so will need new decoders and power supplies from MERG. We had problems with the frog polarity not being correctly changed on a few points, where the integral switch on the SEEP's are not making correctly.

3) A couple of small areas on the rocks were damaged - should be simple enough to solve.

4) Signal box will probably need to be replaced for one that fits in the scene better.

Next major task will be get the backscene painted before we start adding more buildings and scenary along the rear.

I will post a few photos in the next few days.

If you missed seeing Tawbridge at the recent RMweb day at Taunton, we will be showing one of the boards at the model railway show in Bideford (pannier market) on Sunday. Also showing Orchard Road and Yard Shunter!

Ray has been busy assembly the MERG accessory decoder boards and servo driver boards for the new point servos. Just waiting for the servos to arrive before assembling into the mechanisms and under the boards. We will post photos during / after fitting. Ray has come up with a couple of 'interesting' mechanisms due to close proximity of points / servos under the boards!

Not much further progress to be honest as we have also been working on the N gauge layout so that we can get ready for our exhibition in July.

Hi

I have finished the two MERG accessory decoders and one of three of the servo drive boards and started on making the servo mounts that goes under the boards. I also had to make three special mechanical point opperation with the servos linked to opperate three points which are close together.

These will go under the point and the wire will go into a hole in the point tiebar. The micro switch on top is for frog pollarity and it is adjustable by the two screws ontop. I will make three of these without the micro switch to link up with the three machanical opperation (photos below)

There is two of these, to go under were the three points are close together,  again the micro switch is for the frog pollarity and adjustable.

This one is to go between the two larger ones

A few photos showing Ray's wiring and fitting of servos and servo boards.

This is the underside of the main station board - i.e. the end board.

We are working back from this board.

Still plenty to do.

The servos have been assembled onto the plasticard fabrications, with micro-switch on top, with the roller arm being activated by the end of the servo arm.

The servo board (assembled from MERG kit) is shown in the centre.

Progress has been very slow of late as have to go into Cornwall to see ill father-in-law a few times and Yard Shunter going to exhibitions also holidays.

Richard has taken photos of the first board in progress above and is know finished.

I am back on track with it know and have one board done, nearly finished the second just a few wires to run, then got the third to do which is only two points/one decoder board/one servo4 board to do. For only two point, still we will have six positions spare for signals if need be.

No point work on board four.

MERG Servo4 board which will do four servos

post-3746-0-34195100-1379504442_thumb.jpg

MERG Steady state accessory decoder will do two servo4 boards in turn will done eight servos (points)

We have three points very close together so I have come up with this idea. the servos that are made up will not fit in the space so I came with this sliding rods with the micro switch at the end for the frog polarity.

These two photos show the servos made up with the micro switch on top and piano wire from the crack up through the board to the point tie-bar.

Sorry for the slow progress but we are getting there.

Ray

Cracking work. However, there is never any need to apologise for slow progress. Lets be honest, none of us can build an exhibition quality layout at the speed of Andy P.

It's still faster progress than I can manage at the moment due to real life getting in the way.
