Paul-H
Hi Guys Looking for some recomendations for a rolling road to test my Diesel Locos, so that I can connect it to my PC via a Sprog II. The |Hornby one is no good as it only has rollers at one end, which is ok for some of the Hornby Diesel as they only have motor drive at one end but most of mine are Bachmann and Heljan which have motor drive at both ends Any recomendations. Thanks Paul

Thanks Paul "Rollings Rails" (Based in Stoke-O-T IIRC) is the one I use and I've been very happy with it. One can use as many or as few rollers as ones whishes and it can be powered by sitting it on top of the track in addition to independently. I'm not aware of any others that have this last feature. RMweb Gold Trevellan Posted December 4, 2009 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 4, 2009 I invested in the Bachrus rolling road - which they call locmotive running stands - after seeing Nigel Burkin using the product in the Right Track DVDs on DCC. My kit cost around ??100 all in, but is very flexible and allows me to test run anything in my collection.

Paul-H
This is the Gaugemaster one http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?pid=4920 Out of stock though and a bit more than I hoped to pay ??

My kit cost around ??100 all in, but is very flexible and allows me to test run anything in my collection. I also use the Bachrus one, I use the 4 stand version (think it was about ??50 when I got mine, but no doubt the weak value of sterling is going to have increased the price a bit.) With 4 stands its possible to use it with any modern diesel loco (I've had peaks running on there with the stands under the driven axles, A1A chassis like the Heljan 47 (using the outer axles) and AWD stuff (again using the outer axles.) Have also used it for testing steam locos, where I position 3 of the stands under the driving wheels and use decoder boxes etc to support the non powered axles. buffalo
Same - very impressive piece of remarkably simple kit. Me too, A real winner from my point of view is that the same kit is adjustable to fit 00/EM/P4. Coincidentally, there'a picture of one on my latest blog entry. dave_long
Personally my choice is the multigauge 4mm rolling rails set. However for those curious although expensive the way to use Hornbys version is to buy 2 rolling roads and butt them together roller end to roller end and power them up that way. No reason you should do it as it would cost about ??80 I reckon but thats how I saw Hornby using them at DEMU this year.

Chameleon
I just bought some of the Gaugemaster rollers and mounted some aluminium L bars onto a wooden plinth. Cost me a total of about ??40 for the rollers. Cheap n easy to make.
Guest Moria
another vote for Bachrus here.. beautifully made. I have 2 sets one for 4mm which I can use on OO/EM/P4 and another set which I can use on N/2mmFS. Totally variable and can cope with loco drive, tender drive whatever you throw at it. Ron Ron Ron
Yet another vote for the Bachrus road here! But does anyone have any recommendations for O gauge rolling roads? MarkC
Link to the old board here for an earlier discussion about these tools http://www.rmweb.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9021&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a I've got some rollers which I bought from someone at the Newcastle show a couple of years ago. Sadly I can't remember his name, but iirc he was down Bournemouth way? 3 sets of rollers plus supports for a bogie, trailing axle/pony truck & a tender. Don't know what I did before I got them, frankly
Ron Ron Ron
If you fancy a cheaper version of the Bachrus Saddles, Bachmann do their own version, EZ Riders. They cost around £38 for a set of 4... (or around £19 per set without roller bearings). http://www.Bachmann....=730&height=559 Rolling Rails appear to have the widest range of rolling roads available her in the UK. Available in almost every gauge going. http://www.rollingrails.co.uk/ http://www.rollingra...o%20Gallery.htm http://www.rollingra...dard_gauges.htm http://www.rollingra...rrow_gauges.htm .
