47522
Hi all, Probably due to the RHTT season I have recently taken an interest in MPVs and would like to see your pictures of them - in particular any detail shots that show off the different modules and more obscure details. I look forward to seeing what the community can provide, I'd go MPV hunting myself but at the moment, that's sadly not an option! I've found a few photos on ukrailplant.fotopic.net which are really cool - but as always the more the merrier! Thanks in advance!
Ragtag
http://www.nwrail.org.uk/nw0503f.htm Here's a link to a page showing an MPV with a more unusual module - carrying timber.
47522
Thanks for the replies guys. Interesting to see how they adapt to different roles. Still after detail shots and things if anyone else has anything else to contribute!
RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted December 8, 2009 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 8, 2009 I have these that I took when I met one at Havant a couple of years back: Was thinking about the MPV's today as there is a squadron of them parked up in Horsham Goods Yard along with a neat prefab corrugagted type shed which they errected there earlier this year to service them. A nice diaroma for a job lot of the forthcoming Bachmann model, one problem, they were all absolutely filthy!!
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 9, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2011 As Leaf fall season is now underway again and with the recent release of the Bachmann MPV I thought a few more reference shots for weathering and modules may be of use. This is 3S80 the Eastleigh - Warminster - Woking - Salisbury - Eastleigh circuit. Note the tanks on some these Wessex units have the full cage handrails and chromed effect tanks. The cab has faded quite a lot!
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted October 9, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 9, 2011 Where these related to, or derived from, or prototype of, the one time mooted Freight Multiple Unit? Also what exactly are they used for? Cheers Keith

Edwin_m
IIRC they were developed from a design used in Germany to provide container services to a terminal at one of the airports (Frankfurt?), but I don't think this runs any longer. The cabs were cut down to produce a UK version but with the engine under the floor it is too high to carry standard containers within the UK loading gauge. A bit more detail here. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 16, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2011 Does anyone know which type of OTA these are?, I'm just wondering as Hornby & Bachmann are producing two variants. Mind you the Bachmann MPV would need some significant mods to remove the electrical coupling and provide pickups and lighting wiring to the slave unit. Satan's Goldfish
Reviving a dead thread, does anyone have anymore info/pictures on the experimental Southampton container services using the MPVs in 2000 mentioned on wikipedia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CargoSprinter Thanks
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted June 7, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 7, 2013 Recently they've done a trial with the MPV's hauling extra wagons for maintenance work in the spring and summer out of Eastleigh. SWT crews are learning the traction with a link formed specifically for the work at Salisbury and other depots. The South Western Rly is looking to make the most of them which is good as it always seemed a shame to stuff them in a shed for months.
