Pete Piszczek
Heard about this last Sunday, rumor at that point, and simply too unbelievable to pass on. Basically, NS is painting 18 units in heritage schemes, railroads as follows: • Central of Georgia • Conrail • Erie • Erie Lackawanna • Leigh Valley • New Haven • New York Central • Nickel Plate Road • Norfolk & Western • Penn Central • Pennsylvania • Pittsburg & West Virginia • Reading • Savanna & Atlanta • Southern • Tennessee, Alabama & Georgia • Virginian • Wabash 10 EMDs and 8 GEs. Paint is supposed to be as close as they can get it, none of Uncle Pete's stylized heritage schemes. Holy Smokes! Only disappointment is no original Norfolk Southern. Central of New Jersey would have been nice too. But I whine too much! There's gonna be a lot of foaming on the east coast...
trisonic
Tuning up the camera! Leigh Valley should be LeHigh Valley =just a typo... Best, Pete.
Krusty
Well, that will help them maintain their IP rights in those names/identities. What's NS's attitude to licensing?
dave_long
Oh goodie, I like NS heritage units, I'm planning on doing the Sou green GP59 at some point! These will go down a storm with railfans.
Willy
I wonder which Reading scheme they will use! Anyway, whichever scheme it is I am looking forward to it. Willy

Interesting to see that one of the ACe's will be either New Haven or 1960's NS....

trisonic
It's true that they need keep trademarks active under the "use them or lose them" but it is still good for us. I wonder whether Central Railroad of New Jersey is actually owned by New Jersey Transit? Wasn't Reading part of the conglomerate of B&O? Yet B&O must be a CSX mark. Best, Pete. CraigZ
Infidels! They're skipping the best one...the original Norfolk Southern. A modern EMD in that red livery would be gorgeous.
Adrian Wintle
Well, Norfolk Southern doesn't own the Penn Central name or emblem, they are owned by American Premier Underwriters, Inc. (according to the Penn Central Railroad Historical Society http://www.pcrrhs.org/ ), so I doubt if trademark protection is an issue in this case. From what I remember the Reading remained independent until the Conrail merger of 1976. Prior to that there was talk of merging with the B&O but as far as I know the Reading was not in a good financial state so the B&O ended up as part of the Chessie System which of course became a big part of the CSX. k-59
I really want to see a New Haven one.
CraigZ
I really want to see a New Haven one. There's now some rumours that the NH unit will be replaced by an original NS unit. Seems that NS doesn't really operate much of the old NH...

Talltim
Doesn't one of the passenger roads have locos in the maginnis New Haven scheme?
highpeak
Doesn't one of the passenger roads have locos in the maginnis New Haven scheme? Shore Line East has used the NH paint scheme in recognition of the heritage of the New Haven area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shore_Line_East

trisonic
They let someone loose with a bunch of marker pens for that!!! At least they are going with the tasty Royal Blue/Tangerine of CNJ. The Norfolk Southern looks good too as does Central of Georgia. Funny thing is original liveried Conrail locos have been running around (at least up until recently). Best, Pete. CraigZ
And there was MUCH rejoicing that the original NS will be represented. That one, the DL&W, the CNJ and the Virginian liveried units are the ones I really hope to see...
pH
I like the sketches - they look much more like the original schemes than do the UP heritage units.

Willy
Good to see the Reading "Bee Line" livery again; a nice reminder of the Reading SD45s and the ALCo C630s when they first carried the livery.
