7mmNGA Trent Valley Area Group Modelling Day – 32nd January 2025

Our annual January Modelling Day in 2025 will take place on the 1st February 2025 (or the 32nd January as we are calling it). As always it's a chance to speak to like minded modellers and demonstrators whilst consuming tea, coffee, bacon butties and copious amounts of cake.

We look forward to seeing you all there!

If you are travelling by train, the suggested station (Peartree) is not advisable as this is miles away from the venue. Please get the train to Derby station, and then walk across to the bus station in the city centre. Here you will be able to catch one of the 'Mickleover' buses which will drop you right outside the venue (They are bright pink so you can't miss them!) or catch the yellow 'The Villager' buses, we have a new fleet on the Villager route and each bus is adorned with a different animal.

      10am to 4pm on Saturday 1st February 2025.
Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall, 36 Uttoxeter Road Mickleoever, Derby, DE3 9GE.
      Admission: Adults £5.00.
      Contact Details: group.trent@7mmnga.org.uk. www.henmoredale.org.uk 01283 733914
Nearest Railway Station: Derby and catch either ‘The Mickleover’ or ‘The Villager’ buses from the bus station.

The Trent Valley Area Group are once again organising their annual bacon butty and cake fuelled January ‘Do’ to beat the post-Christmas blues. This year, we are holding the event on the 32nd of January just to be different…

Currently booked to attend as we closed for press are:
For layouts we have in NG7-16.5:
Ashbourne Creamery, Phil Traxson has turned part of our old modular layout into a standalone layout of its own.
Rhiw Goch, Peter & James Hoyle bring their slice of the Festiniog Railway.
Wheal Ponder, Andrew Young’s Cornish Cameo
Halfway, the West Midlands Group bringing one of their collection of layouts.

Of the other TVAG members, Alex Bingley will be bringing a hybrid display of his layout and trade stand. Simon Jones will be bringing his SM32 inglenook shunting layout and a recently moved Jim English will be bringing whichever of his layouts he can retrieve from storage. To see what these are you will have to come and join us on the 1st February.

Local modeller Lez Stephenson will be bringing an 009 layout in a large trunk. Kevin Hughes makes a return to bring us up to date with the progress of his NG7-24.5 Kinver Light Railway modelling

Association Chairman Adrian Gray will be demonstrating his finescale waggonry and other Festiniog Models.

      Trade wise, we have:
TVAG Second Hand Stall to grab yourself a bargain or two.
      Association Modelling Goods Sales.
      EDM Models.
      422 Modelmaking.
      Iconic Rail.
      Corris Railway Society.

This event is a late winter staple diary filler for many members of the Association and we hope to see many old and new faces again this year.

    • Gauge O Guild Winter Show
      By LAWLOGG Editor,
A few words about the show, some pictures of us setting up our stands (and, more significantly, a comprehensive video of the attendees) are available at this link.
    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC
      By 7013,
Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job.
Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts.
Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well.
I can see this growing in the future
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By jacko,
Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.

    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By chris p bacon,
Having moved to the Borders in recent years this was my first time at the Tyneside show today and a very good show it was. Plenty of good quality layouts meant I arrived about 10.30 and finally left at 3.45 with only time for a cuppa away from the halls.  Managed to find a book I was after at a very reasonable price and a few other bits and bobs.
Will have this in the diary for next year as a 'must see'
    • Aberystwyth Small Model Railway Exhibition 2024
      By Cymru Rails,
The Aberystwyth Model Railway Exhibition was an amazing and truly unique show held within the museum, with the Vale of Rheidol Railway organizing a standout event for their very first exhibition! I really hope this becomes a regular show. For those who couldn't make it, I’ve put together a video of all the layouts
