  1. I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Nik Kershaw
  2. Perhaps the difference would have been that we were in the States temporarily for one year so those loose ends needed to be tied up before we permanently returned to our home countries. At the time, graduate engineers from GM plants all over the world were offered the opportunity to work and study in and around Michigan and beyond, with part of the time being spent at the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mi. GM would have wanted to ensure that all who were being sponsored by them complied with the tax regulations. It was considered an honour to be selected for the limited number of opportunities by the participants in the General Motors Overseas Operations.
  3. After a year in the US when my ex husband was on a GM Scholarship, we couldn’t board the plane home in June, 1972 without a certificate to prove we had both paid local, state and federal income tax.
  4. Oh, What A Night! - The Four Seasons
  5. I Left My Heart in San Francisco - Tony Bennett
  6. I’ve learnt how to use Zoom to enjoy videoconferencing with my children and grandchildren who live in Crewe, Rugeley and Geelong (Australia). Oops - I misread the title and thought it said “useful”. Doh!!
  7. Three Little Maids - from “The Mikado” (G & S)
  8. They’re discussing the edible kind, dear!
  9. This was put together by some of the entertainment staff from the cruise line with which we were planning to sail to celebrate my significant birthday. Along with many others, our cruise has been cancelled, as has a planned visit to see “Swan Lake” today at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth. In the overall scheme of things, it seems unimportant now.
  10. Don’t Make Me Over - Dionne Warwick
  11. My humble apologies. I thought the article would interest the members on here with health issues.
  12. With reference to the Joe Wicks workouts mentioned by olddudders, with which you may be familiar if you have grandchildren, he posted this on Facebook this morning:- “Message from Joe Wicks Words can't express how happy and proud I have felt every day this week as the nation's P.E. teacher. I’ve been overwhelmed with the response and the support it's had from everyone. As a result of so many people viewing the #PEWithJoe workouts on YouTube, the advertising revenue generated has been unlike anything I've seen or experienced on my channel before. So I've decided that as long as I’m the nation's P.E. teacher, every single penny of the money generated on these videos is going to the place where we need it the most right now. All of it is going straight to the NHS, to support the real heroes right now. Thank you for watching, joining in and sharing… I’m loving being your P.E. Teacher and now you can watch again, knowing you’re not only staying fit, you’re also helping raise money for the NHS. See you Monday at 9am“ A great display of altruism!
  13. Yes, I thought the same, but didn’t want to spoil the spirit of the thread by mentioning it so I’m glad we can have a giggle on ER's!
  14. Very well supported here in Torbay, too, which was heartening. Very sad that this was followed immediately by Question Time in which we heard that NHS staff do not have enough protective equipment, despite it being known two months ago that this pandemic would happen.
  15. This morning I achieved something that is unlikely to have happened were it not for self isolation. I managed to link up via Zoom, with my daughter and family in Australia, son and grandson in Rugeley plus daughter & family in Crewe. We played hangman, after the young people had finished exercising with Joe Wicks on YouTube. Brilliant! Later, whilst enjoying my daily allotted exercise on Babbacombe Downs, which was virtually deserted, I learnt that all the flowerbeds are tended by volunteers as the Council gave up years ago!
  16. Those who are familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan, specifically The Major General's Song from “The Pirates of Penzance” should appreciate this. (apologies re spelling of practise!)
  17. This is a major problem for small businesses and theatre companies, both amateur and professional, because the government has made this advisory rather than mandatory. Insurance companies won’t pay out for loss of revenue, for fees for venue and costume hire, etc. Yes, Johnson, the message is clear: protecting the financial institutions matters more than supporting the Arts.
  18. Thank you all for your heartwarming () messages posted since I experienced my little event. It is very uplifting to know how many of you are concerned and we both appreciate your kind and supportive comments.
  19. ..... absolutely! I can’t argue with that!!
  20. The Fool on the Hill - The Beatles
  21. Further to Ian's post, she is the Business Editor on The Bristol Post.
