  1. Hi, This vastly overpriced rubbish has been discussed at some length earlier in the thread. As was said before the person behind this stupidity clearly has no idea of anyything within our hobby. Like I said before its comical how they use the term 'time vault capsule' for what we all call a layout!!. My biggest concern is that the gutter press pick up on this idiot carry on and use it as a basis for one of their normal ridiculing attacks on our respectable hobby. Regards
  2. Hi, Some of the earlier Mk1 catering vehicles - particularly full kitchen cars - were equipped with anthracite fuelled stoves. These were some of the earliest Mk1 corridor stock withdrawals. Regards
  3. Hi Mike, Yes it was Propane. Propane does not freeze or suffer pressure reduction in cold weather in the way Butane does - of concern when the bottles are in cabinets subject to wind chill on a moving train. If I remember correctly BR had a supply contract with Calor for many years. Regards
  4. Hi, Agree completely that it does look rather as you say. My question was based on the advertiser saying 'the shell is a bit dirty'. One thing I would'nt critisise is an attempt to weather it - the seller might have had a go and not got it right at a first attempt and decided to sell as a result - whatever the truth its all credit to the seller for having a go. To let such a model get in a very dirty state seems a silly thing to do. However as you very rightly say, this loco could become a real bargain for someone - i'm a bit tempted to put in a bid myself as a second 4MT tank would be usefull for my new Somerset and Dorset layout. Regards
  5. Hi Sara, What is a bit naughty is that as far as can be seen the advert does not state anywhere that the locomotive is a static unpowered item. Now I know that we would'nt be fooled but cant help wondering would some buyers from outside our hobby looking at this not understand this. It really should give a better description of what is being sold. Regards
  6. Hi, This raises a question that i'm sure has ocurred to many others : Why oh why do people let what is a decent and none too cheap a model get into such a state in the first place. I know dust is our enemy but this looks a bit more than just dust. Regards
  7. Hi, Agreed. This might be a bit daft with a yellow Class 50 but at the current bid i'd suggest the buyer is going to get a fair bit of train for his money. Could be very usefull for repaint and would be quite cheap models then. Regards
  8. Hi, I see your point and dont in all honestly disagree. However the word 'frothing' taken from 'froth' does not directly refer in any way to those terrible illnesses - for example we refer to the froth on a pint of beer among other things without anyone making the connection to a seriously ill person. The reference to diabetes in any way can only refer to what is a killer illness - the complications of my type 2 that have effected my heart will, regretably, shorten my life. I feel that to make such a direct reference within what is a joke is going to far. Regards
  9. This post is grosely offensive to anyone who suffers from type 2 diabetes - me included Whilst like very many other Members I enjoy sharing a joke on RMWeb the serious subject of diabetes is not something to include in such a joke. The implications for sufferers are anything but a joke.
  10. Hi, Have a look at the details of the photo in the top advert for a good chuckle.............. The photgraphers name is stated to be Dave BRUSH !!!! Priceless !! Regards
  11. Hi Ian, Just in case you wonder I 'agreed' with your post as I felt it deserved something better than just a 'funny' as i'd say you've hit it spot on my friend. Perfectly put for that seller and a few others. Regards
  12. Hi All, I might be wrong here and am happy to be corrected if I am but dont ebay have a rule to prevent sellers from listing so that an item comes up in more searches than justified by the actual item. If i'm right then surely these headings break such a rule. Regards
  13. Hi Mike, Fabulous work indeed. Its begining to get difficult to actually believe that your Stirling really did start out as Emily such is the excellent work you have done. Am following this with great interest as i've a couple of old Kitmaster locos awaiting a plan to come together to do one as a proper Stirling Single and the other as a better Emily for our Thomas layout to replace the Hornby effort. Looking forward to seeing yet more. Regards
  14. Hi, My feeling is that the description 'time vault capsule' for what we call a layout just goes to show what sort of out of touch idiot is behind this overpriced rubbish. Regards
  15. Hi, I do of course fully agree with the sentiments expressed but could there perhaps be a simple explanation as to why this hasn't been done. The Bachmann 'Thomas' items have been produced by the USA arm of Bachmann who hold the licence for the 'Thomas' range in the USA so probably dont have any thoughts re the British marketplace where Hornby hold the licence. Yes i'm aware that the Bachmann can be purchased here from certain dealers and indeed have done so for our Thomas' layout. Agreed its such a shame that the oportunity was missed but perhaps it was inevitable. Regards
  16. Hi, I wish !. Two years ago I had another building made fourteen feet square to extend my workshop facilities and give me a room to work on layouts and this cost £3700.00. By the time we had insulated it, fitted heating, lighting and other electrics plus double glazed upc windows it worked out at just over £6000.00 Mind you I would be hard pressed to resist a basic BR Van body to fit out. Regards
  17. Hi, Firstly having read the quoted post I was shocked to read that news. I hope that Andy will allow me to express my deepest sympathy for such a sad event at this time of year particularly. I think it was in rather poor taste to suggest that Andy should have had the care of RMW in mind when personal matters would rightly have taken precedence. There seems to have been, today particularly, a lot of frothing over threads being locked. The Mods have a 'duty of care' to protect the interests of RMW in the long term from the (perhaps) ill thought out postings of some Members. Although I have no 'inside knowledge' I dont think for a moment that Andy or any other Mod. would ever seek to 'supress' free speech so long as said free speech is not legally dubious, inflamatory or likely to cause gross offence. "Crossing of swords' between parties to a discussion happens often and often allows a wide apread of views - so much the better for all concerned. That it will be necessary for Andy or another Mod. to lock a thread occasionally to nip a developing problem in the bud is unfortunatly part and parcel of this forum. Yes I do agree that sometimes a brief explanation as to why it has been done might be nice but equally I know that for various reasons its not always possible so we should not expect it as a right in every case. No one can do other than agree that Andy (particularly) does a fantastic job keeping the good ship RMW afloat and on course. Remember we get totally free access to what is a fabulous source of information and knowledge. Today particularly seems to have rattled a few cages over locked threads. I think some of the resulting critism is unjustified when considered against the needs of running the forum. For those who dont like the way moderation must be applied remember: "if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen' Regards
  18. Hi, Two thoughts here: (1) It says its from 'Rusty Rails' -i'd rather have a length of rusty rail - at least it would look more realistic. (2) It says its been given a 'professional coat of varnish' - what is an 'amateur coat of varnish' - one that you dont pay for perhaps. Regards
  19. Hi again Nick, Didnt need to collect wife !. I checked and was on 2013 theme so changed to 2014 but still doing the same. Guess that perhaps i'll have to keep off tablet for some things. Regards
  20. Hi Nick, Thankyou very much indeed for you quick reply. I'll try what you suggested in a while (wife due in from work in a few mins so will be off pc for a short while now). Just out of interest i've noticed some Members on several threads have a left hand screen side that has coloured boxes to show feedback whilst others, me included, dont. Is this something to do with this profile. Regards.
  21. Hi, Dont know if this is related but this is something that has been happening on my tablet for a few days now. Its on Windows 8.1 and IE 11. If I try to begin a new thread all is normal except that the keyboard pops up correctly and then straight away goes down off screen straight away preventing me from typing anything. Tapping in the text area brings the keyboard back and does the same again. Having no problems with Win 7 / IE 10 on laptop and Win XP Pro / Google Chrome on desk pc. Is this related to RMW problems, browser specific or something to do with my tablet. Have noticed RMW has been a bit variable in speed over all three computers since yesterday. Regards
  22. Hi, My only question is WHY?. Just cannot see a reason to do something like this. Regards
  23. Hi, Right who's been watching THAT film. Could be we've been attacked by a group affiliated to a far eastern land. Regards
  24. Hi, If you want a good laugh just have a read of his description. Written by a two year old i'd say. Regards.
