  3. Afternoon All, I was at the Ludlow Racecourse model railway exhibition this morning, when I got a phone call to say that my younger brother had passed away during the night - not the best place to receive such news and not the sort of news that I was expecting - he was ill, but as far as we knew nothing terminal. We were not close, it must be said, but it still came as a bit of a shock. SIL not sure whether there will be a PM - nothing can be done now until Monday. Regards to All Stewart
  4. Afternoon All, Skipping has taken place due to (........insert a good reason here). Generic greetings are of course, on offer and also of course, if anything urgent needs to be mentioned that I have missed, could some kindly soul please PM me. Car boot fever over the last couple of days, Far Forest yesterday, and Leominster today - neither brilliant, though we did manage to spend a few quid on odds and ends - and I picked up six railway books for 50p each - I had some of them, but the ones I got are in better condition - all of them are certainly worth more - Power of the BR Standard Pacifics normally sells for between £5 and £10. However, it has to be said that about half the sellers from Saturday were also the same sellers with the same stuff on Sunday. We are taking a rain check on Tenbury Wells, tomorrow as we expect it to be mainly the usual suspects again. After we got back from the car boot, it was second coat time with the front door - now done, and looking good - change is very subtle, but has made the door much more "ours". Dinner soon, and I think a large Scottish tipple will be partaken as soon as the sun is over the yard arm - AKA 2pm.* * edit - now done - Laphroaig today still tasting in my mouth. Guitar lovers, here's a version of Blackwaterside which is actually better than the version by my old acquaintance, the late Bert Jansch with whom I shared a drink at the Half Moon in Putney on quite a few occasions. Regards to All Stewart
  5. Evening All Today, the Painting word was uttered - we wanted the front door a slightly duller green, and bought some duller green paint, mixed up to be a close match to the sage green that we wanted - got it while at B&Q for something else. They couldn't quite match it with their scanner - but suggested a good alternative, so £31 later, we were the proud owners of a nice tin of near sage green paint. Got the front door prepped, and then opened said tin - only to find that it had no smell at all - it was water based, and the front door is already done in a pine green oil based gloss, which was going to act as the undercoat once roughened - NOT. So it was off to Huws Gray who mixed us up a litre of oil based paint in the exact shade that we'd originally planned - and it was £2 less - moral - don't bother with B&Q and buy locally. Then we remembered that all the major DIY sheds only sell water based gloss now - again the message is to avoid them if at all possible. Regards to All Stewart
  6. Do it @TheQ, 30747 had huge gaps in her NI record and we bought back as much as the Pension Service would allow - and I believe that there are now limits as to how much can be topped up - but it cost us about £2.5k and virtually doubled her pension entitlement from a pittance to a reasonable sum (not comfortable, but reasonable) - we would have bought back more, as she had gaps which the DWP would not allow us to fill - my suggestion is that you do this as quickly as possible

  9. No - not many - just some - quite a few can't be bothered with the hassle of storing them - I know as I have worked in a number of charity shops and none has offered that facility - and when I suggested it. that was the answer
  10. Why not go RMWeb premium, then you would't get such shocks.
  11. Afternoon/Evening All Well, the car boot was not a great cash booster - we only netted about £60, and wound up exhausted - I think we'll need to fnd a better car boot to sell off the stock coming out of the cabinet next week. At the same time, we made £215 on eBay over the past week or so - whoopee - NOT. Car needed an aircon regas, and was booked in today - and I asked if they could just adjust the handbrake when the car was in - went to Oxfam and left the car - got a phone call on the mobile - "you need new brake shoes on the back - the ones on there now are totally worn out. The garage took me home in another car as mine was sitting there with the wheels off awaiting the new shoes Came back about 4.30 and the total bill was - guess how much - yes £218 so we're £3 out of pocket (or £57 in pocket if you factor in the £60 car boot takings) Wonderful. Tomorrow it's the charity warehouses in Hereford, then a quick check on the cabinet and the charity warehouses in Leominster. Regards to All Stewart
  12. Let's get out of this one with Night Fever - Bee Gees
  13. Afternoon All, Friends came round at short notice today, just as we were about to start the carpet shampooing. So we didn't get started until after twelve - then it was dinner, and load the car for tomorrow - unlike when we stood the A6 when we had five boxes of bric a brac and four of railway books we've no books, so we can actually get everything into the car without putting the seats down!. Now going upstairs for a rest. Regards to All Stewart
  14. Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears for Fears But here's an alternative offering by Gabriella Quevedo
  15. Afternoon All, AWOL again - sincerest apologies and generic greetings are all I can offer - just been too busy using the laptop for Ebay, and am around £1500 better off in the last six weeks as a result. The cabinet just can't compete, so we've given notice to end the rental at the end of the month - we wil probably try the stuff on Ebay instead - or at the car boot sale - yes we're going to start that again - well, it has always been fun - but this time no railway books for sale - well, only a few. 7am Sunday can't come soon enought, I've really missed doing them and we haven't doneione since lockdown. Today, the K word was uttered, and after taking Lily to Croft Castle for a long walk, I was set for a sit down, when 30747 decided that the front path and slabs at the back needed to be done with the Karcher - so now I'm just a bit cream crackered. And tomorrow, the V word has been uttered, so it will be the Vax carpet shamoo machine - WOW. Any Emily Linge fans, here's her latest offering - no idea who neon trees are or is - bit she makes a good fist of the cover. Regards to All Stewart
  16. I saw it all last Tuesday. We were on the A303 during the biblical rain which deluged the West Country. It was IMPOSSIBLE to see out of the windscreen with the wipers on full belt. So we pulled off into a layby - and so did TWO other cars - all the others proceeded as though it was normal visibility - wagons, caravans, and even a motor bike. Then things got worse - it turned to hail, and I was certain that we would see a casualty soon - and we did - a Peugeot 207 with a woman driver, which was in the ditch on the nearside facing back up against the direction of travel. In total we stopped four times - never seen rain like it - NEVER.
  17. Afternoon All, Sorry - been on holiday for a few days, but I don't announce this any longer. Leaving soon to get Lily out of kennels. Regards to All Stewart
  18. Sorry - I was at cross purposes as I tried to be brief - it was some of the headline acts who were having to sing without the aid of auto tune - not the choir
  19. Agreed 100% about Mr Richie - he was good once, but he's lost it big style - and the 300 voice choir was decent - the lack of autotune (unless it was being used, and I missed it) was obvious. However, the work with the drones was outstanding.
  20. Not really sure what it meant, but whatever her title, she carried off her duties admirably.
  21. Afternoon All Well I enjoyed the coronation for the main part - the true star of the show IMHO was Penny Mordaunt, who carried off her duties with grace and poise - she did so as well when the late queen's passing was announced. Politics aside, she seems to have a real feeling for that sort of event. True, much of the ritual was archaic, but it has been cast in history for about a millenium now. The return with its high tech organised step off of thousands of military men and women was very well done, and could so easily have gone wrong. I too was disappointed at the curtailed fly past, but the low cloud base made that quite inevitable - at least the helicopters and the red arrows made it. As to the commentary - BBC said onscreen a number of times that various accessible media, and a commentary free version were available on the red button - I checked and they were - pehaps @Barry O was watching ITV. The main spoiler for me was that on Friday I had a problem with Homeserve having sent our repair job to the wrong engineer, so that one engineer had the part, and another had the job. I raised a complaint and as they couldn't get hold of anybody by 6pm last night, they rang during the run up - and also said that the engineer would ring - so I was on tenterhooks for the call, but in the end, they dealt with it by email - which I discovered after the coronation, and as they had given me an unsuitable appointment, I had to ring them, but only after it was all over. All posts have been skim read, which is an improvement on my performance of late. And for music lovers, this came into my inbox yesterday. Regards to All Stewart
  22. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that the earnings from the TV rights overseas would more than cover the cost.
  23. Morning All, Aldi was packed at 8am - we were there and out by 8.30 - awaiting two parcels this morning, but postman has yet to put in an appearance. 30747 is watching the start of the coronation, and I will join her when the actual event starts, I'm not all that interested in the arrival of former prime ministers or indeed the current one, and all the other various hangers on. When I remarked to her that we would probably never see this event again, she reminded me that Charlie is older than me - and Camilla is older than both of us - so the chances are that we will. Back later Regards to All Stewart
