  3. Well it was certainly a busy night at the club tonight, a visit by nigel burkin taking a good few snaps of newcastleton

  4. Has anybody by any chance got an old lord nelson body (any condition) which is going spare, i have used the gbl D11 loco boiler to make a north british atlantic i am working on thinking i would get away with the differance in size but its far too small so, i am looking for a similar shape boiler and the lord nelson is all i can think of.

  8. Had a good weekend at glenrothes and managed to pick a east coast joint models v4 complete with wheels etc, the loco body is almost there as is the loco chassis. This is my first attempt at loco valve gear and one side seems to work ok, the instructions suggest that you do boh sides at the same time but im doing the coupling and connecting rods on both sides and then all the rest seperate and deal with one side at a time that way if any problems show they should be easier to deal with. I am h...

  9. i have a djh duhess kit which was given to me a while back - i am thinminng of starting it but it doesnt have any instructions, i knowe what a duchess looks like and where most of the parts go but just to be sure it would be better to have the instructions for the kit. does anybody know where i can get a set for this kit.

  10. another idea brewing in the heed - a d51 4-4-0t using a terrier body as a basis, but i have literally just started thinking of size differances, is the terrier similar in size or smaller than the d51???? and then what chassis to use?????? will see what happens had thoughts or using a shortened Hornby toy story 4-4-0 chassis but..................wait n see.............

  11. well thats another j88 almost complete bringing the total to three, these are really cheap and easy conversions, i have written to brm about the possibility of doing an article but wont get my hopes up.

What chassis did you use this time, another Terrier?

      kingfisher24

yes i used another terrier chassis via ebay and parts of old finescale a3 valve gear and Hornby compound cylinders mounted on the underside of the running plate as per the 1st loco, i will post snaps when i get the chance

  12. well thats newcastleton all packed up and in the trailer for the hawick show and all my stock in the boot - just need to dig out honeyway and thats me al set.

  13. well another week until the perth show, i will be operating newcastleton all weekend and will be bringing my scratch build loco's with me for anybody who wishes to ask questions, they may even put in appearances on the layout if i can manage to sneak them on, mind quite how a j88 would manage to get to newcastleton is a funny one.

  14. well thats the j37 finished, now am thinking about a north british atlantic, or a highland clan. but these will require a lot of planning, although i have the chassis for the 4-4-2.

  15. newcastleton is going to be at this years hawick show

Very suitable layout for Hawick exhibition. Can you please say what the dates will be?

  16. brainwave - how about a D30 using a Hornby t9 as a basis.

  17. just had a brain wave (dont have much brain to have these with im told) anyway it was how about a D30 using a Hornby t9 as a basis.

  19. acquired myself a second hand Hornby tornado and im having a go at back-dating the model, i did originally have the intention of doing a full repaint and lining out job but i just cant face it so its going into br green, something to keep me busy over the new year period.

  21. after watching the right track dvd on weathering ive purchased myself a badger airbrush via the old reliable ebay and tonight have been weathering a couple of locomotives, the airbrush is not a twin action but seems to do a decent enough job, pictures to follow of i hope a lightly weathered Hornby b1 and black 5

  22. well thats the weekend over, newcastleton ran well without a hitch,i spent most of my time shunting (or playing) in the goods yard, the stock ran well also, except my scratchbuilt tudor minstrel which has developed a slight stutter and will need investigating. we had plenty variety on the layout this time, plenty v2's a3's b1's a couple of j36's and j35's k3's, my j88 even put in an appearance mind god only knows how a j88 could have got that far in the middle of nowhe...

missed ye again Gary! Layout looked better in the brighter hall than in the dingy SECC I thought.

i was the one wairin the daffy "dafty" duck t shirt this time. max i have always thought that itd be nice if we were invited to the hawick show one year, the only down side is access, the layout is very heavy. mind it is still fun to operate, i think that the hall at bonnybridge is good, the bacon rolls are a nice touch also :)

I thought Newcastleton was the star of the show, along with Rannoch Moor & Kinlochewe. Only one question, when will we see it again? Never tried the bacon rolls, but the rolls on sausage were great.

  23. been in the western general all day yesterday and today also, i have a nasty case of cellulitis in my right leg above the knee and it has been spreading it started off as a small red mark just above my knee - now it has spread to most of my upper leg, i am told that it can kill if not got in time and we kanni have that so glad i went to the docs as i thought that i had just pulled something.the nurse said that ive to not walk on it as much as possible and not to drive unless its really neces...

ive been told to stay off it as much as possible and unless its really necesary not to drive either and if i have to make it as short as possible, although i have to drive to the hospital each day as i live 35 miles from edinburgh and have no alternative, anyway i feel ok when im driving its just getting in and out thats a pain - literally. just have to wait and see how the treatment works.

  24. just gave my j88 a repaint as it wasnt right - had a slight orange peel to it with the humbrol acrilic paint used so repainted the loco using spray enamel and, this gave a smoother finish and it dried in minutes in this heat. now its bbq time and lager too!

  25. thats the j88 finished, i think i may make another as i have another j72 body to hand and have no other use for it. also this conversion is the cheapest to date so why not do another.
