  1. I had a look at the book and it has a superb track layout but is dated around the 50's - 60's; I really need an updated plan of the depot from the 70's - 80's if possible... Also, I need pictures of the depot itself so I can estimate measurements etc. and of course any general pics and/or general details would be appreciated !
  2. N gauge; your Dad wouldn't happen to have any old pics or info, would he?! My Dad was a wagon inspector at the Chester end of the line but never took any pictures (whatever was he thinking !!)
  3. Ha Ha! That's really funny, 'cos I do have a copy of that book but completely forgot !! Doh I'll get it off the shelf later - make some good Friday night reading... Thanks for the prompt D
  4. Hi all I've decided to join the rest of the modellers on RMweb and build a TMD !!! Only kidding; I just need somewhere to show off my growing collection of 70's and 80's locos ! As I'm already modelling (sort of) the North Wales Coast I thought I might have a go at something like the depot at Holyhead. To that end, can anyone help provide or point me in the direction of websites etc. which have trackplan, layout, buildings, pictures etc. I've already got some info from 2D53.co.uk but will need much more... Thanks in anticipation David
  5. Wow, that's a serious spread of trackage !! Look forward to seeing the n gauge version...no steam specials on this one then...??!!
  6. I really like the contrast in the vent van shot - before and after as it were - just shows what can be done with good ol' Humbrol

massive improvement - I have the Black 5 so is especially useful... Have you tried with the older mk1's at all?
  9. Have been trying to find guidance on applying the stuff found in the "bag-o-bits" which comes with Bachmann/Farish locos, namely the Black 5, 108 and 150 DMU's. Flying Pig very helpfully gave me copies of the printouts that were supposed to have come in the boxes but didn't, but I still can't see exactly where to put everything. I emailed Bachmann only to be sent the exact same printouts, which was no help whatsoever...!! Please can somebody point me in the right direction to find a picture of a completed loco with details attached or a diagram to say which bit is what etc...I've tried searching the site but haven't found anything yet... Thank you !!

  12. Spent some time over the weekend populating Llanybarachel with the new Bachmann/Farish range and some I had left over from previous layouts, mostly Modelscene packs A + B which my Dad painted... Layout has a bit of "life" now, albeit artificial Some pics will appear on main topic thread.... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php/topic/29413-llanybarachel/page__pid__330482__st__25#entry330482

  15. Farish A4 60009 sent off to NBrass for new bogies and detailing; can't wait to see the results :O)

  16. Bachmann 2mm figures arrived today \O/ - Operation Population begins !!

  17. Been tinkering with the old trackplan after suggestions and came up with this: I still like the two lines in and would invite comments as to what they could represent...maybe a truncated main line...???!!
  18. Hmmm, ok so putting the carriage sidings in place of the goods shed etc. seems logical... How's this for a thought: The preserved line shares the station with current operations; DMU's on the nearest platform, Black 5's on the other...??!! Then you could have the two lines running in - one for current, one for preserved, maybe fenced off or delineated in some way, or - would they be ok to share the lines?? It could be a junction of the two...??
  19. Here's the old trackplan I unearthed - done in MS Paint about 7 years ago so not to scale (or even close!): This is after some fiddling about; on a previous plan the engine shed was accessed via the turntable alone...still doesn't seem right though...I dunno, maybe 12' x 2' in 2mm would do it...? The premise is that this is a station in a small/medium town having been closed and now revitalised by a Heritage railway group for preservation...the goods shed and coaling stage could be used as workshops for the group or even as a modern demo of "days gone" or something... I've always liked preserved lines, especially as I've spent quite a bit of time (and money!!) at Llangollen and Haworth over the years... Opinions/Constructive criticisms welcome !!

  21. Decided to take the plunge and order six sets of Bachmann 2mm figures, ranging from Shoppers to Construction workers...Cheltenham Models sold them at £4.80 a set so bit of a bargain really... Dug out some old trackplans of an end-to-end Heritage Railway (preserved line) I'd been doodling on a couple of years ago - funny how viewing the layouts on RMWeb inspires you...maybe it'll happen, maybe not...no harm tweaking the plans tho'
  22. My first time on this one; have to say it looks wonderful - best use of N in my opinion; loads of space; realistic train lengths; small layout footprint...great stuff; I'll be watching this with interest
