How's this for a quote: "Once the brakes failed," says Ameliano. "We ended up travelling at 130km/h. We crashed into a tunnel. I took cover in the second wagon and I survived. The driver died, jumping out as the train derailed." Just everyday life for them...

  2. Mmmm, double-strength Americano and a hot cross bun... nomnomnom*slurp*

  5. That's some good-looking project you've got there, and it's interesting to see how it's evolving...I especially like the canal and the station areas - lots of potential !!

Hit me with an organic venti chocolate brownie caramel mochacchino, extra hot with one inch of foam, non-fat.

  7. You could always attach a spike to the base of the crane to feed into the block underneath thus creating a "foundation pile" of sorts...be a bit like a "crane candle" on a birthday cake !!

  9. Not sure if it's relevant to its poor running but in this picture 60874's trailing bogie is derailing... I'll second the comment re the coaches; beautiful in line together like that, and yes it will be a shame to dirty them up...keep the inspirational pictures coming; wonderful stuff!
  10. 'Tis a shame you can't hit the Like This button more than once; but please allow me to register my appreciation of some wonderful stock and a superb layout of which most of us can only dream ; oh, and lovely to see the 3F among such main line leviathans...
  11. Truly excellent; almost feel sorry for the poor thing in that state...whip round for the SVR anyone??!!
  12. Good on yer; can't have enough North Wales on this board methinks !! Was up in Llandudno two weeks ago - not what it was in the 80's but still plenty going on...mind you have to say I don't like the new dull-blue/bland-grey livery - give me the turqoise and cream anyday!! Got a few of those on my layout; they do look nice....mind you, your models are looking good too... Will you be starting a thread on it...??
  13. I think I would have to list: 1. Allied Marine and Loco Co (RM 1979), OO gauge industrial "plank" - mainly for the wonderful atmosphere and sheer exuberance of the creators; I still have the RM with it in... 2. Millhouse Lane (MR 55 May 2003) - O gauge with Allan Downes buildings...anyone know what happened to this layout? A real afternoon watching the trains come and go type of layout... 3. Gransmoor Castle (RM 1980-ish) - N gauge cross country with rolling hills and scratchbuilt buildings - the first "proper" N gauge layout I had ever seen and was my inspiration for ages...many trackplans for layouts ensued after seeing this one...!!
  14. You clearly attended the same exhibitions as me then...nothing worse than a cold shoulder from the operators; you have paid money to see their offerings so why they are so reticent to engage with the great unwashed?! It is a mystery...but there are exceptions (see first post !!)
  15. Really really good to get this kind of "feel" from flat card takes some doing !!
  16. Truly delightful layout; the variety of trains, location, commentary all go together to make me want to relax with my feet up and "watch the trains go by" just like the lineside watching I used to do with my Dad in North Wales in the 70's and 80's....
  17. Hi Ron I've been watching "in the wings" as it were since this thread began, and can only reiterate everyone else's superlatives... Only one question springs to mind, and apologies if it's already been asked; do you have a timescale in mind for completion of the build(s)? ie. do you hope to have achieved certain spans/supports by certain dates, or do you just keep on building not thinking about how long it's taking? Wonderful and riveting stuff... David
  18. Same size as my layout give-or-take but already looking much bigger !! Great sense of space and atmosphere from just the mock-up; will be watching with interest...
  19. Kidmore Vale, perhaps....
  20. Wow! that is going to be some layout !! What work are you doing to the villa?
  21. Hi all, Would anyone know where I would go to get a copy of the original plans for the depot building? Also; does anyone know what the pitched-roof building to the right of the main depot was for and what it might have contained by way of doors to offices, workshops etc... Thanks David
  22. Here's a link to the page on the site that started all this: http://www.2d53.co.uk/holyhead/Shed.htm It gives a good overall impression of the Depot and the mainline to the left going down the incline
  23. My skills won't run to making my own track and up to now I've used Peco code 80; for this I'd like to try code 55, especially as they've promised the 3-way in code 55...
  24. Hi all, I've found a trackplan from the late 60's/early 70's when the coaling stage and turntable were still there. The track was unchanged though during the 80's following the removal of the turntable. There are no less than 3 assymetric 3-way points so it'll be a challenge !! The thing is, I have no idea how to turn this into an N gauge trackplan as I don't have any software to convert it over; can anyone help with that please? I'd really like to get some estimated measurements to work from; I think it'll fit into a 6 foot x 1 foot area but need something better to work on... All help gratefully received !! (Extract from much larger plan; copyright holder unknown)
  25. Excellent that'd be great !! Thanks David
