  1. Hello Tallpaul69 I have something for 1956 which might help (which you can have with my compliments). Brian
  2. Hello Iain Good to see the progress! A thought for you... When I was 'laying out' my track as you are currently doing, I covered the baseboard with a roll of thick wallpaper lining paper. This allows for pencil marks to be easily removed or amended. When ready to actually lay track, I left the paper in situ. It forms something of 'a seal' when you get round to ballasting. If the track ever needs lifting - and there can be many reasons for this - you have a nice, clean surface to work on. Brian
  3. Hello everyone Congratulations to Dapol on the announcement of the Manor - a long-awaited class! We wish them every success with the project. In The 00 Wishlist Poll, the Manor has been the 'most wanted' GWR loco since 2015. It was the 'overall most wanted' loco in 2018 but slipped back to 'second most wanted' in 2019... but by just two votes (behind the USATC S-160). Brian

  5. Hello Tony and everyone I'm sorry for the slight delay in getting back on this query. My extract below from the Q&A for The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 should explain the situation. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team) Do you say if kits are available? We found that it takes an inordinate amount of time to keep that information up to date, so we haven’t since 2018. However, you will find a link in each category to take you to kit makers and other suppliers. This is – after all – a Poll for ready-to-run items!
  6. Hello everyone I can only comment on 00, but well done to Hornby on these well-deserved results. Compliments also to Bachmann on the Ransome & Rapier Crane award and to Adrian Hall at UK Model Shops. Good to see the Bournemouth West layout coming in high. Brian
  7. Hello Johnster At the risk of 'going off topic', I thought you might like to see that the 517 isn't actually dropping... 2016 - 12th of 25 GWR Locos 2017 - Poll didn't run 2018 - 10th of 26 2019 - 9th of 28 Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  8. Hello Tony and everyone I wonder if anyone can help with these questions... Firstly, my wife's parents ran a fish & chip shop in Bowes Park, north London, during the late 40s and very early 50s. My mother-in-law remembers that they could order fish from Grimbsy one day and collect it next day from Bowes Park station. Can anyone suggest how this delivery would have been achieved? Secondly, can anyone tell me what duties No.60700 would have been involved with in its last year or so of working? Many thanks Brian
  9. Hello everyone Very many thanks to Ian and his team for another excellent show - much appreciated! I was sorry to read earlier that someone felt that 'the trade' wasn't well represented...that was not the impression I took away. Given that this is a 'traditional local show' and not Warley, there were over 20 actual model traders; a fair balance against the layouts. As is usual, the show attracts a high proportion of family visitors with kids, which can only help promote the hobby in the long run. It is a credit to how Ian and the team promote the show. Brian
  10. Hello Mikesndbs Banana Vans seem to do fairly well in The 00 Wishlist Poll. In 2019, they fared as below: High Polling SR Banana Van (this was only a few votes outside The Top 50) GWR Banana Van Y4 BR Banana Van (Diags. 1/242, 1/243 & 1/244) Middle Polling LMS Banana Van (Diag.1660) BR Banana Van (Diag.1/246) The 00 Poll Team is hoping that Oxford Rail will produce the recently announced GER Van in its 'banana form' in due course. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  11. Hello Phil The question of 'missing moulds' would best be raised in a thread of its own (or, perhaps, on one of the other Hornby threads). As the current 'cut-off date' for items appearing in The Poll is 1 January 2005 and that the Clan was produced in 2009, the class is unlikely to be listed for some time. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  12. Hello Edwardian The 517 was just 10 votes behind in 2019. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)
  13. Hello Edwardian You will no doubt be pleasantly surprised to hear that in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 the Metro Tank was High Polling. It was 8th out of the 28 GWR locos listed. Overall, it came it at equal position 61st - much higher than it was in 2018. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)
  14. Hello Graham (and Iain) That is very nice tracklaying and I'm delighted to see that the scissors has been amended! Brian
  15. Hello Mike The J25 is certainly in The 00 Poll and was High Polling in 2019. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  16. Hello Jason They would certainly go well with the SR Container Wagons as we listed in The 00 Wishlist Poll - details below. The Short Wheelbase wagon was High Polling; the Long Wheelbase was Middle Polling. SR Container Wagon – 9ft & 10ft wheelbase (Diags.1382 & 1399 of 1931/1938) The SR built 350 of the Diag.1382/A (with 9ft wheelbase) between 1931 and 1932, and 755 of the Diag.1399 (with 10ft wheelbase) between 1938 and 1947. Although designed for containers they were just as useful for carrying cars. One particular traffic was that of ‘invalid carriages’ (as they were then known) – small 3-wheeled cars made by AC Cars of Thames Ditton for a long-running government contract. However, they were also used for other new car traffic and labelled as ‘Return to Morris Cowley’ or ‘Bathgate ScR’. Link: See page 75 of Terry Gough’s book, A Pictorial Guide to Southern Wagons & Vans. Link: See page 31 of Mike King’s book, Southern Wagons in Colour. SR Container Wagon – 18ft 7in wheelbase (Diag.1383 of 1931) The SR built 150 of the long vehicles which had a wheelbase of 18ft 7in and an overall length of 32ft or 32ft 5in (for the fitted ones). Although designed for containers they were similarly used for the ‘invalid carriage’ traffic above. A number passed into general railway service. 17. Hello mdvle Although this is 'off topic' for the Oxford thread, I felt it appropriate to make a brief statement that The 00 Poll Team does its best to 'combine' similar items where we believe it would be reasonable for a maker to produce variants. Although Class 116 was announced (Kernow), that didn't happen - so it was back in The Poll for 2019. One of the Railbuses failed to appear, so that was re-listed. The D16/3 Claud Hamilton with Decorative Valance was listed separately as we felt the tooling was significantly different. Same goes for B16s. There are other examples but this should suffice for now. If there are questions, we can take them up on our thread: Results - The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  18. Hello everyone Congratulations to Oxford on these announcements...we wish them well with the projects and hope they are commercially successful. Below is how the items fared in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019: J26: We listed this previously as a combination with the J27. Tank Wagon: We're not sure what type this is at the moment...we'll get back in due course. (Edit 12.10 21.01.20 - It seems that this is not a 'new tooling' as is a new livery of the existing models.) GER Van: This particular item was listed individually many years ago but we had to 'subsume it' into the broader/generic listing of GER Wagons, Vans & Brake Vans. It is certainly a very useful vehicle and looks 'a tad different' to other 4-wheel vans. Crane: Not in The Poll. We do list a handful, but the subject is so vast that a Poll could be run just for cranes! Pilchard: Not in The Poll. Another area where we have struggled to shoe-horn items in over the years; the genre is vast! Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)

  20. Hello Charles Agreed. I sincerely hope Hornby has 'made provision' for the BR versions as that gives them so much potential. Given that they have made small detail tooling changes on locos and rolling stock recently - such as the Bulleid sides - I look forward to the future of these coaches. The BR versions have formed part of my 'master plan' and were written into my 'carriage workings' long ago...I'm all set to go! (As an aside, the A2/2, A2/3 and 60700 were also 'written in' long ago as I am fortunate to have a layout that is generic in format and can 'purport to be' WR, SR. LMR or ER depending on what stock I run.) Brian (speaking personally)
  21. Hello Compound 2632 It was a 'slip of the finger'. I corrected it in the cut and paste copy that I sent to the Hornby thread, but forgot to correct this one! Now done. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  22. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Hornby on the 2020 announcements today! Excellent news for many! This is how the new tooling items fared in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019 Results... Top 50 374 votes - BR Std Class 2 2-6-0 (78xxx). Overall position 3rd. 287 votes - LNER Hush Hush. Overall position 10th. High Polling 186 votes - BR Diag.24 Restaurant Buffet (RB) 182 votes - APT-P 182 votes - W1 60700 149 votes - A2/3 Middle Polling 116 votes - A2/2. (This score places it nicely above the overall halfway mark.) Low Polling 86 votes - Coronation Scot Coaches. (These were only just in Low Polling. We believe they have much potential for the BR modeller in the future if Hornby has made sensible provisions.) As something of a notable aside, we recently ran The Quirky Poll. Rocket was overall top-voted item there. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)

  24. Hello S&CR The 00 Poll Team has been running The Wishlist Poll in its (generally consistent) current style since 2012. Prior to that, we had some experience with some of us contributing to what was MREmag in 2010 and 2011 where for convenience sake - not 'grandeur' - we called ourselves The Loco Team. The results of what we did there and subsequently have remained reasonably consistent over the years, with the greater majority of made items having been in the upper echelons. We have never claimed that models are made directly because of The Poll results as we have no proof. Even prior to The Loco Team, some of us were involved with the small team that ran the original Poll. That Poll wasn't as widely publicised as the current Poll and didn't draw quite as many voters, but consistency of results across those years can be detected with ease. We have always been open to how we might attract a more 'random' or 'less self-selective audience' but no-one has yet come up with a solid, predictable formula. The Poll is not only for 'voting'...it has an underlying policy of 'education' and placing items in as logical a presentation context and accuracy of terminology as is possible.
