Two things I do which may help:
1. I use neat PVA to lay a thin (3-5mm)boundary strip of neat ballast along side the sleepers overlapping the cess (which I generally lay prior to ballasting). This helps set the boundary when dry-ballasting and helps hold the shoulder in place. I have used masking tape for the outside of the glue strip when I want a particularly neat finish. I think I picked this up from a US magazine.
2. I use the wet water very fine spray once the rest of the dry ballast is in place and I now use matt medium rather than dilute PVA for the final step(but both work).
This is my latest effort...you'll notice there's no cess.....doh..
I also do a bit of an overspray once its down. (Phoenix Precision weathered sleepers..)

Thanks Tim.
Speed is not of the essence so it won't be the usual swift build.
It will make a nice change in some ways.
Still haven't found my lengths of bullhead rail though.....
Rob .
Let me know if you don't and I'm happy to send you a Loading Gauge worth....

We also had an excellent show at Pontefract. Much enjoyed.

I've just seen a lengthy local BBC news item about the pressures (including T&T) currently being experienced by our local posties..I think we need to recognise the pressure they are under. I thank mine whenever possible.
I appreciate our hobby and magazines keep us all sane (ish) but they are not in most cases a matter of life and death. Please be nice.

With sleepers and mud. Why didn't BR ever think of that?
How do you cost "mud"......?

Delivery here normal (early!) so I assume dispatch is OK but I suspect local mail is variable.

I saw two shows in January 2020, I'll mention both.
The Cardiff 'Small' Show was the last exhibition I went to, these are always enjoyable occasions with good modelling and good company.
Prior to that I went to my local show, the Weston-super-Mare 2020 Trainshow organised by Keith Price with all profits to Weston-super-Mare Hospicecare. Sadly that will be the last of those events as Keith Price passed away late last year after a long battle with cancer,
cheers
Keith will be much missed on the local circuit.
I understand there is an emerging proposal among some of his old team to put on a memorial show in January 2022.

From ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/listings/default/vat-obligations-eu?id=4650#section1
Note the important bit here is: "All sellers listing on eBay.co.uk will have to provide a gross price and separate VAT rate, so that eBay can determine the correct amount of VAT to collect from consumers. For non-EU/UK sellers, unless you have included UK or EU VAT in your pricing calculations, the VAT rate will usually be 0%."
To be clear this is from the section about cross-border trade:
"Changes to VAT treatment of imports into the UK"

I find lightly tapping the rail with the spoon will dislodge most of the errant ballast making the brushing a little less onerous.
I'm sure a carefully distanced airbrush could do the wetting if you don't find the first choice tool....

Went out for our walk at lunchtime, and at one point came across two middle-aged women coming the other way, side by side taking up the full width of the pavement. We moved over into a driveway to make as much space as possible to pass safely - they didn't even acknowledge us, let alone make any concessions for our safety.
You're not alone...

3 x Tim Horn boards, each 4' x 1' 6", of the scenic box variety. All in pre-assembly mode at the moment, i.e. in a heap on the floor.
I have some Peco code 75 bullhead track and a couple of each of LH and RH points as well.
Decent space. Looking forward to it....
