Thank you to all who have brought up the water tank. Putting a complete tender 'up in the air' seemed gross on my Welney project. So I have been looking at the smaller 'branch-line' versions such as those illustrated. What available parts are recommended for the tanks, please? The supports coming from balsa strip for the type i like. Colin.
My tank was styrene sheet and evergreen strips - rivets were Archer decals - fiddly but doable. Support was stained stripwood from my US modelling stash. Ladder was a long signal ladder - MSE I think.
Open topped with an insert of clear plastic sprayed Humbrol Olive drab on the underside (same as my canal)
The prototype actually looks pretty big in photos so it is "downsized"

This is how I did it on my Fen land based layout. The photo of the water tower is old and the layout has been completely rebuilt and improved since this photo was taken. The mpd is still the same layout because of its visual effect in obscuring the exit from this board..
Hope this is of interest.
Martyn
Great minds....no exit...but there could be...

No, it is DCC.
The comments about insulation apply even more with DCC.
Make sure every joint is covered - heat shrink is a good plan.....don't ask me how I know...

(Or Fried Egg Bridge as one wag has already christened it!)
The latest addition to the layout roster is this little number, based on an imaginary branch off the Wisbech and Upwell 'main' line to Friday Bridge. The line was mooted but never built.....until now. More pictures to follow shortly
Disgusting of Market Harborough
Just found this thread via Lockdown Fen. Very nice layout.

Morning Chris,
The whole W&U thing does make the emerging from the backscene a bit of a challenge. Alex, with his splendid Upwell Drove has adopted a similar approach as yourself.
I've not decided as of yet, how I will tackle this on Outwool.
Rob.
I'm sure you'll find a way...the water tower is used on LDF to hide dead end and could equally well be a view block.
There are ways of using lots of trees and a signal box in the background at Wisbech...have a look for Elm Road?

Another great layout Chris, it definitely screams W&U.
Thaks Rob
One of my favourite parts of the process is tracking down research resources and trying to use signature elements.
Some of it is not accurate - the W&U line tended to run parallel to houses rather than emerge from between them but I've been inspired by other layouts as well. Bridport is one of my favourite layouts for example:

If they are in the Walthers catalogue Mech Models should be able to get them to the UK.

What a smashing little layout. I do love small ones like this. Reminds me of another Fens based layout I have seen in recent years although I’m not sure of the name, Fen Drove perhaps?
**got it, Nene Wharf
Thank you for sharing it’s construction. Always plenty of tips to pick up.

We were exchanging messages - I'm looking into one of the Sparkshot bodies as I have a 03 chassis with a failed crankshaft which under skirts can be cut off!
