I wouldn't worry about the type of coupling you choose, so long as it suits your purposes. There are some and we have all met them, who can drone on for hours about how you have chosen the wrong coupling.....
Thanks - I find Kadees go down very well with most of the crowd at shows....playing trains...will it catch on?

This is great, lovely modelling and feels very spacious
I'm pleased you said that....its actually really small but I've tried to keep it "open". Thanks.

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use for ballast on this layout and is there a build thread for it?
I'm adding to this thread as I go.
Ballast is Woodland scenics buff and light gray plus Green scenes grey. Over spray of Precision weathered sleepers and rails picked out with rust.

I use Digitrains sound projects (mainly by Paul Chetter I think) and at shows I keep volume low..seems to work.

Nice model, I have always had a soft spot for the J70. Don't worry about the Tri-ang style couplings, they come right off. At least it doesn't have a face on it!
Since the foto they have had sound fitted as well as Kadees which I know don't suit everyone but allow for a bit of delayed action shunting fun.....just need to fire up the airbrush for a bit of weathering....

And a J70...no weathering, horn hook couplings but hey ho...its better than nothing..

...and..a J72 on a bridge...this has sound fitted (plus a stay alive) by Digitrains and is great fun...weathered by your truly at Missenden...

I did say earlier I'd taken the opportunity to detour to some kit building...

Parkside Horsebox....with thanks to John Emerson for some research material.

Take care that you don't end up Sheep Creek without a paddle.

Thanks Wooders,
I am really enjoying starting this particular project. I think, yes, my style will fit well with the prototype. ( Though I'm not sure I have a style as such) I think part of the challenge is adapting yourself to the prototype you are trying to create.
I see this layout as minimalist. Few buildings, low in height and well spaced to hopefully achieve an open look to it all.
I will be staying with Standard Sheep Operating Procedure ( S.S.O.P ) and using RTP buildings.
Hornby R9777 Weighbridge is on its way.
I will also collect a second weighbridge, again Hornby, R 8588.
These clearly are not W&U buildings but they give a hint if you squint.
( The plate thing will be consigned to somewhere)
Both buildings will be tweaked detailed and weathered.
Onward.
Rob.
I think #1 is pretty close...

The only creek in the UK I can think of is Deptford Creek - I doubt such a beautiful place is what Rob had in mind.
Perhaps Becks, Brooks or Gills (though not in the Fens!!)
Cornwall.......Helford River is - I think - a creek...back to Panniers....

I think we need yellow card and red card buttons as well as a groan......I like a Shay as much as the next person.....but there are limits....mind you those Fenland gradients can be quite challenging...

Acceptable style of bus. Anything more modern will result in an air strike.
Exactly what I thought.....good opportunity for a race with Mavis......

Yeah - I reckon they swap at shows - no one person can talk for that long....

Glad to be of service...

For some reason, I am thinking of a road in open fens, tramway down one verge, a road junction on the opposite side guarded by a disused pillbox. Telephone poles down the other verge and very little else.
Oh yes the pill box.....I resisted on Lockdown Fen but it would look good...small stretches of unnecessary brick wall also add to the overall picture.

Is CJL of MR following this? If not he ought too!!!
I've certainly followed Chris's W&U related projects as part of the research for this layout

and a bit of dry-brushing a la Roger Nicholls (for them that know him and his prolific layout building activities...)

Its a mixture of Woodland scenics buff and light gray plus some Green Scenes grey. IIRC the whole thing was very lightly airbrushed with Precision weathered sleepers - a very light brownish grey
