  1. Save The Skymaster Group based at North Weald ran two of the four engines on their C54-Q N44914 on March 28th 2021, the first time in almost twenty years.
  2. Doesnt seem to be any new larger RTR steam locos on the horizon, would love a Bulleid pacific, any variant.
  3. Wing in Ground Effect craft are being developed by a company called Widgetworks.
  4. The Toyota Owners 400 NASCAR Cup Series race yesterday was at Richmond Raceway, a short oval track and the weather was dry for a change, a lot of races get rained off. Big surprise was that my driver Alex Bowman won in the Ally no.48, it was his first win of the year, first at Richmond and third career win. Second place finish was the 11 with Denny Hamlin and third the 22 with Joey Logano. The last time the 48 won was in 2017 in the hands of Jimmy Johnson. Yesterday Jimmy he started his first full schedule for the 2021 IndyCar season for Chip Ganassi Racing.
  5. Latest of a series of Floating Paradise Lost from ocean liner historian and journalist Peter Knego, a ship i always found fascinating. Seemed to be in pretty poor shape towards the end and some disturbing revelations about that in a book i got sometime ago called "Do These Stairs Go Up Or Down" by Robin Boltman.
  6. Abandoned tourist attractions, museums etc happen so I wonder if the last known Ekranoplan also known as The Caspian Sea Monster stuck in shallow water off the coast of the Caspian Sea towed there to be part of some sort of collection will ever be restored.
  7. Thanks Ron, you would think that being ex RAF i should have remembered that!
  8. I see a TBM Avenger from a Florida air show has crash landed in the sea just off the beach, mechanical problems apparently.
  9. But stripping down anything is frustrating and time consuming. Garage body work used to be like that from what i can remember in the sixties and seventies and we didnt have the bonus of the internet. Working on old and rusty cars made mainly of steel takes time and can be a nightmare.
  10. Fantomworks are on Facebook and now do a monthly video, last one came out 25th March about 30mins long. They have 2.4k followers and over six hundred comments. Its a good completely factual show.
  11. Abandoned USSR Warship The Minsk https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/40196/the-sad-story-of-how-this-soviet-aircraft-carrier-ended-up-rotting-in-a-landlocked-chinese-lagoon
  12. Flak Bait, What a story https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithsonian-institution/world-war-ii-bomber-took-more-enemy-fire-most-others-and-always-came-home-180974690/
  13. Well Kevin Harvick is still racing he one of oldest current drivers in the Stewart Hass no.4 Ford got more wins than anybody last season but didnt win the championship. He is known as The Closer. All the races are on Youtube if you want a catch up. Jimmy Johnson in the 48 retired last year, they called him Ole' Mr Seven Times but he hasnt won for a number of years. His replacement is Alex Bowman a young fella who i follow who used to drive the 88 which was Dale Earnheart Jnr',s ride but he retired in 2017 with concussion. They all use the Hans device now which greatly helped with head safety. Alex is not having a great year though, its big boots he has to fill though.
  14. Memory not good either until i see a photo brings it all back! The reason i didnt do the rear doors was i think you could get a one piece door conversion maybe it was grp dont know now. Anyway not long after i sold it and bought one of two ZB Magnettes. I missed out on a Sunbeam Talbot Alpine 1953. More stories for another day!
  15. The farmer rented out the old barns and i did some car rebuilding and painting in one on the left there. The lorry in the background belonged to a fella who worked for Shell, he used to rent a barn and serviced petrol pumps. The old grey car was a 2.6 Lagonda, he had a large yacht at the farm he was restoring. Funny old fella, chain smoked and he only lived about four miles away in Margate but by the time he got to the farm the car was misfiring. One plug was oiling up so he took it out swapped it for a spare and replaced it. Been doing it for years apparently!
  16. I seemed to be so full of life then, old and in pain mostly now and wonder why did i bother!! Yes the pinstriping, dont think i got to the back doors actually. Got so many folk looking at it, all the time. Never saw another one. All the rage then the matt black bonnet, photos of a mates Anglia i will put on. Painted metallic blue with matt black bonnet, chromed anti tramp bars, 5 and half J reverse steel wheels and exhaust coming out the side. Pix taken at Manston Court farm 1968 near where i lived in Margate.
  17. Another series i liked was Fantomworks, Dan Short certainly a character.
  18. Hi, Am i the only modeller on here interested in Nascar i wonder? I have been watching it since it arrived on the british tv and now we get really good coverage courtesy of Premier Sport. I initially watched all three series, the Trucks, Xfinity and Cup. Now i just prefer the Cup racing and Nascar are continuing to run the races with social distancing and very few spectators.
  19. And white vinyl roof, with Kathy on the bonnet I think there were nine coats of lacquer, a lot of rubbing and polishing. I sold in 1974 when i was in the RAF to a fellow airman but it dont know what happened to it. I also owned several Jowetts one was a prototype, thats another story, a couple of ZB Magnettes, a 1600E Cortina and a Spitfire
  20. Got an Elf grille eventually and then added Wood & Picket wind up window conversion. Deseamed it, put a 998cc Cooper engine in it, aircraft bucket seats, sound proofed it and painted it red metalflake with white pinstripes Later added a set of cosmic alloys with insets pained red oh yes and a klaxon horn.
