  1. Very annoying, but I guess the buyer/time waster would have cancelled their order after winning the bid. Having been in sales for most of my life, you cannot count on a sale until cash changes hands. Many things get in the way between someone's stating an intention to buy and buying, sometimes there may well be a genuine reason. For my part I keep my railway funds ringfenced, whilst on a very few occasions I will break this rule, for me its a matter of pride in keeping within my own budget. The other thing is, I believe in swings and roundabouts, some call it Karma. For every item you sell at a good price, you will not get as much on another sale. I view buying the same, sometimes I might slightly over pay, next time I get a real bargain. Good luck with further sales
  2. I have noticed that in the past 3 weeks the value of the energy I have either used or exported, has doubled from the previous weeks. On average I use about £15 worth of electricity a week, over these past 3 weeks the average benefit has been just over £3 a week, rather than between £1 & £1.50. For the half full brigade I guess it could be said "not a great return", but then in the winter months our expectations are low. As far as February is concerned by the end of the month production will be 5 times that of December. In short even on days when we have sunny spells our financial gain is 75% of the average weekly benefit we were to to expect when we brought our system. Roll on the Spring as today looks to be a washout
  3. Gilbert I buy quite a lot from Ray, as a buyer he is one of the best traders
  4. I would imagine its down to the individuals who own them, I would try the local engineering societies I have a Mk 3 Scalefour timber punching and press machine. I brought it second hand and the punch head was bent, in trying to straighten it the punch pin snapped off. Several years later I found a machinist via a friend who very kindly turned me up another Or find a local machine shop and order some (you would have to give them the specifications).
  5. I think you have had very wise council in the previous posts, with lots of very good advice If you have time selling on eBay can be fun as well as rewarding, when I sold my old RTR items some years ago I could not believe how much it raised With wagons and coaches unless they are collectors items, as advised list them in groups to reduce the postage cost Take time with your first listing, if you make it as a template you can use it time and time again, just changing the photos and details. This makes further listings much easier Take clear photos, as these will sell your items, what you earn will depend on how clear your photos and descriptions are, plus sell a few as wrapping up lots of items at one becomes a chore Look at how other present their items and copy the best ones Most of all enjoy the process
  6. Well done looks like you have found an early one with pre-quartered wheels, Mk1 motor and keyhole chassis. I never had issues with quartering the wheels just meshing the gears
  7. This is one of the photos when buying the lot I did not pay much attention to. An etched coach and wagon, perhaps I should had paid more more attention to the instruction sheet, or the wheels, though close to then are some track gauges (the larger black one looks like my Brook-Smith P4 roller gauge ( I was proved wrong Along with quite a few etched bits and pieces was this 7mm scale Langley L&B bogie coach Unseen was this composite coach along with a L&B bogie open wagon. These kits are incomplete, and at a quick glance the kits are about 75% complete Now as a volunteer at the L&B coach works and interested in 0-16.5 these are real freebies, I will see if there are parts I can buy, but I expect most will have to be scratch built. I was at the workshop today and the lads expect to see them built, especially as we have started coach 9 Two things to take into consideration, if selling items ensure you take cleat photos of what you are selling, secondly keep all the parts of your kits together, it will not only help those disposing of your items, but also help those buying them. Most of all ensure those left behind benefit as much as possible. By the way what I thought was a P4 track gauge, was a 7mm version along with another Brook Smith gauge, I have never seen these in 7mm scale (or are they Scale 7?) but then there is a lot in this hobby I have not seen !!
  8. Given I an both a member of the L&B plus a volunteer in the coach building group I had a really great surprise when I received a job lot I brought on eBay. The listing was not very good, I could see an etched coach and a wagon and perhaps I should have paid a bit more attention to the instructions in the photo, by a few of the other items were of (at that time) og greater interest A brake 3rd What are the chances of finding parts for a 7mm scale L&B coach in a mixed lot ? Composite coach Not only one but two. I did say parts and between the two they are about 75% complete, plus a bogie open wagon As far as I am concerned these are freebies, brand new they are nearly £100 each, if I have to spend a few £'s so what. Or if I have to scratch build some parts, all it will cost is a few bits of brass. I took then to the workshop to show the guys who now expect me to build them
  9. I keep meaning to update what we at the Lynton and Barnstable East Anglian Support Group coach works are up to Work has almost come to a stop for the time being on van 23, as we are waiting for the steel chassis for Van 23 which is being built at Woody Bay, an engine overhaul has priority. So we have made a start on coach 9. The workshop is divided into several areas, in the paint shop after painting some roof ribs I started on the covers for the commutation cord These are the drying shelves where newly painted items are left to dry. Roof ribs on the left hand side These original L&B coach doors, were given to us as they were found sandwiched in the walls of an outside toilet during refurbishment of the property. They were donated on the basis we would restore them, which as you can see has been done Prefabricated parts for both van 23 and coach 9 stored for future use We prime and under coat the items (unless they will be varnished) and store them with one coat of gloss Under the yellow plastic drapes are parts to van 23 and coach 9 floors. Behind against the wall are original parts from coaches and van 23 ends are stored. The grey end you can see is from an unknown coach, awaiting restoration and will be used on coach 9 Coach 9 benches awaiting preparation to house the sliding compartment partitions The woodwork machine shop. Middly(ish) of the picture an end end gutter for the coach currently being serviced at Woody Bay, the brown box also has other prefabricated parts for the coach as our fulltime carpenter will spend a week or so at Woody Bay replacing them Anyone near to Colchester is most welcome to come down and see us, but by appointment only, especially if you fancy a bit of volunteering
  10. One of my favorite places in Italy, we visited the area about 5 years ago and had a pleasant day touring the area, last year we travelled through the area on out return trip from Tuscany. I guess the colour will change depending on the time of year, in summer a much lighter and brighter shad of blue. also in summer a much calmer sea
  11. One of the Items not visible from the photos in the listing are some body etchings for a LMS Fowler 2-6-4T No idea of the make or either whether it was an early kit of parts or a set of scratch building aids, I guess the former Not much left if it was a kit, but may be something which might interest those who love building in metal. Its quite a heavy gauge. I see Premier Components do frames coupling rods and motion https://www.premiercomponents.co.uk/pages/premier-components-lms-motion-parts for a Stanier 2-6-4T Anyway I will be listing it on eBay hopefully at the weekend at a nominal amount, and just see how much interest it creates if any, hopefully someone will a challenge
  12. Thanks, I have looked again and its not a tank loco chassis but a tender loco
  13. I think its just phishing where they use McAffe just because its one of the larger software companies, A bit like the phone scams quoting Apple I had another far more annoying popups for over a month, thankfully its gone away, sadly a sign of the times we live in
  14. During Friday I had a sort out of the 4mm kits. I have 2 LNER kits along a bag full of spares which will be sold as they are missing some main parts, should do someone who likes LNER lovos as there are 2 x 6 wheel tenders one of the loco bodies has less missing than the other, so its a bag of spares. In addition to that I have a Craftsman A5 looks More or less complete, a V1 missing small parts and no chassis, likewise a K's class 3 tank, The chassis for these two were generally binned in favour of something better. Then I have body kits for for a Wills Flatiron and 61xx (61xx has a white metal chassis) Dean goods outside frame again more or less there. A nice Duke body, tender and chassis, the main body parts of an Abadare, a GEM L 1 chassis, wheels and motor. Main parts of a SEF 61xx chassis a couple of sets of Romford wheels. I will keep the Duke (or is it a Dukedog ?) and the 61xx etched chassis, plus at least the 18mm Romford's and will count up how many of the 22mm ones I have in stock Here is a question This is a 2-8-2T chassis but not a 72xx (its too small) wheelbase is 26 x 23.75 x 23.75 any thoughts ? Yesterday I checked the 7mm loco wheels, all there for the main 6 loco kits except one wheel is broken, I also used what I think is a complete set of 72xx body castings to make up a second set, which I did and found most of them (11 items short) Today whilst sorting out the gauge 1 and class 35 spare parts (which are going on eBay tonight in 5 lots) another piece for the 1361 loco, next up is to sort out the etch frets from the unused small pieces Plus I have the Langley 0-16.5 L&B coaches to check over
  15. I have a Jamieson 5P5F ( Black 5), not 100% checked yet, I know it has not got instructions and a valve gear etch. but I have both and they are now with the kit. All the main parts are there, the odd 8ba nut may be missing, it will go on eBay next weekend if the 80% offer is on
  16. The effect of shading is reducing as each day passes, The first tree still affects production but the effect is far less. The second object no longer has any affect, the third and probably the worst offender still is affecting production, but again its affect is reducing. Also the days are getting longer.
  17. Yes I have McAfee, problem not reoccurred
  18. Whilst not truly finescale they will affect rolling stock with either thicker flanges or more importantly the wheel back to back measurements are out of gauge. Usually for finescale track the wheel back to backs should be 14.5mm. I would check the back to backs of the locos first
  19. One of the main issues was that with the 6 loco boxes plus 2 other plain boxes parts were all mixed up. The large parts were either easy to recognize or guess where they should go. As for the castings initially I kept them in their groups. I think I have the Collett's loco's parts together, though some of the Manning Wardle parts I recognized in the general boxes. The Springside kits will be sorted out once I get the instructions This was a bag full of whitemetal castings (photo was taken after bagging up) and I had no idea which loco/'s these belong to. I thought if I sorted them out a bit it would be easier once I got further details. Here are the components after being bagged up, either by type or size of items. By sorting them out I got to know the shapes In a separate box there was these packs of sealed packs, and what I now assume are for one of the 72xx locos, because I recognize many of the shapes. I now think the big bag certainly has if not all but most of the 72xx castings, plus spares. I had a bit of a light bulb moment overnight in replicating it for the second 72xx With the parts left over I don't know if they are additional parts for the 72xx or bits for the 1361 ? I am hoping to see if a request for instructions will be answered, but time will tell. Next up are 2 or 3 4mm scale boxes with many mixed parts, however I am feeling more comfortable with most of the 7mm scale kits
  20. Jason There was a movement to move away from using RTR chassis from the likes of GEM, Wills/Southeastern Finecast plus others, to bespoke chassis, but both resin and 3D printers are still in the process of designing bodies to fit RTR chassis I brought a GER tank loco designed to fit a LBSCR Terrier chassis, it looked all wrong. I brought a SEF J67 chassis and it looks and runs superbly I have a dislike of RTR chassis, from the bomb proof examples from Triang and HD, then the Mainline and Airfix both of which do fail after time to the modern ones which start off well but seem very difficult to repair. Kit built chassis lend them selves to easy maintenance or at the very worse rebuilding But I accept for some using a RTR chassis allows them to enter the world of kit building
  21. Torper Firstly what can not be quantified is the hours of pleasure hopefully you have enjoyed Secondly those choosing P4 standards usually accept that whether kit building or converting RTR locos a lot of adaptation usually will be required, especially with white metal kits Next up both Wills and NuCast kits are older makes and designed in the main for 00 gauge, most of the Wills range initially were designed to fit on to RTR chassis or cast metal chassis As for DJH I have some on the shelf to build varying from those dating back to their earlier days in Banbury and links with their neighbors Keyser (K's) to the latest excellent versions, I have read from one of the online builders they are designed to be built to 00 gauge. Usually all 3 makers kits you have mentioned if built as intended, in the main they go together well. But I do accept when building to either P4 or EM gauge issues may arise
  22. I have recently obtained an Oakville/Wagon & Carriage Works GWR 72xx & 1361 locos in 7mm scale, I am hoping someone could assist me with a copy of the instructions for these locos I am happy to cover any costs either with sending an email or posting hard copies Thanks for taking the time in reading the post
  23. Another couple of hours spent today, My main issue now is waiting for a selection of self sealing small clear plastic bags. I have continued with the 7mm kits and an getting much better at identifying what parts go where. For the second manning Wardle loco I now have both chassis sider and found a couple of extra bits, also with the 72xx's and 1361 I am finding it easier to separate then group the etched parts (all off their frets). I have even found a third set of frames
  24. My December averages over the past 3 years 20 kwh, against my best month July for the past 2 years 338 (Aug 305 ave)
