  1. Evening awl, You may remember that Don Bradley wrote four volumes on the Locomotives of the LSWR. When he died, he bequeathed his photographic albums to the South Western Circle and I've volunteered to catalogue them. So I've sat in the front room most of the day, identifying locomotives whilst either watching the athletics or listening to Radio 3. Long task! Meanwhile, our Chris is wending his way back to Blighty. Bill
  2. As a rough guide, an image is in copyright if: the author is known and he/she died less than 70 years ago the author is unknown, but the image was first published less than 70 years ago. You can legally own a copy of an image in copyright, but that does not give you a right to publish the image, including on the internet. Bill
  3. Morning awl, Did anyone watch Question Time last night? Because it came from my old school, St Dunstan Catford. I noted the mess the BBC had made of the Great Hall, then turned off when the first began to speak. Bill
  4. So my mother came from Rhyl; the relevance of this post being it would have been here 101st birthday today. Bill
  5. Back from the wilds of East Surrey. Not certain, but I think I saw Mrs Roundhouse on the train out of LB on Wednesday. She got off before I could say "hi". Bill
  6. God moves in mysterious ways, welcoming Southwalk Diocese Council of Trustees to Redhill! Bill
  7. ... but his bark is worse than his bite. Bill
  8. I'll be missing for a couple of days, at a Diocesan Trustees meeting, not too far distant from Ian (Roundhouse). Back Friday. Bill
  9. Evening awl, An exile in self denial mode. Wales lose whenever I watch, so I was reliant upon the Hippo post. Also at Tenterden today, leaving at lunch time for a trip on the K&ESR. Keep well all, Bill
  10. Evening all, Well I now have another BR 50 sitting in front of me - I think I had better stop at three! Also a Prussian van with an almost flat roof, which together with the Abteilwagen will break up the profile of the Thunderboxes in the local train. Funny how the Germans like order and symmetry, whilst the British are the converse. Also a lot of flexitrack, so I spent the afternoon in the garage painting it "weathered wood". Keep well all, Bill
  11. Morning all (just). A Teutonic parcel has just arrived and needs to be opened. Meanwhile our Chris and THE TIE have departed from Australia and are now in New Zealand. As they spent the last few days in Sydney, I'm sure the tie received suitable exposure. Bill
  12. Morning awl, Back from SB late last night. By my reckoning, our Chris is in Melbourne and probably spent the day on the trams and the evening on the beer. Meanwhile the Bedford branch of the LCGB are wondering how they have the minutes of the Bedford branch of the LGTB, and vice versa. Keep well , Bill
  13. Looking at my Ffestiniog booklet, our Chris is halfway along The Ghan, in the vicinity of Alice Springs. Bill
  14. Does it come with a first aid kit? Bill
  15. As usual, we exchanged "not Valentines" cards. Little to report except I've had a hair cut . Off to Southwark Bridge tomorrow. Bill
  16. Got bounced off the forum a few minutes ago. Anyone else? Not much to report. There was a Robinson's jam factory in Bellingham, in fact I'm about to be 100 meters from it. Was known by a racist name we don't use any more. Keep well all, Bill
  17. Short legs, no neck, poor eyesight. So a natural hooker and a reasonable wicket keeper (just so long as I could bat at eleven). No good at athletics - but enjoyed cross country - the thicker the mud or the deeper the snow, the better. Two hours overtime today, difficult shout, way above my skill set; we ended up with a HART team and an advanced paramedic. Then training! Bill
  18. Evening awl, The old standard for systolic was 100 + age. PeterBB makes a valid point that BP changes during the day and is affected by exercise and by diet. A mug of coffee puts five points on mine. I have to study BPs for my enhanced course , which is likely to be 10 - 14 June. And of course I got a letter this morning, delaying my "wee procedure" to 14 June; it's now a week later. Bed now - an early start tomorrow with stage 2 of the gas changeover. Bill
  19. Mal, We're all of us totally numb - not just the diagnosis but the brave way that you're handling it. Just keep going - and best of luck with (most of) the 6 nations. Bill
  20. Dave, Diastolic is better below 140 than above it, maybe a wee diet is called for? However, blue lights if above 200 or below 80. I assume you're not diabetic, in which case you shouldn't be above 130! Bill
  21. Back drinking coffee, which is a sign you can knock me off your sick lists. Glad Sandy is getting home, that Rick is dosed up, that Bob hasn't been blue lighted recently but concerned about Mal's absence. Can't stay long, phase 1 of the gas changeout is about to occupy this space. Bill
