  1. Afternoon all. I did arise early this morning, but on account of not being able to get out of bed didn't go onto rmweb. Back is still giving me huge problems. Though the Gabapentin is helping. Time for a cuppa and a bowl of cereal, needing to be quiet as other half is downstairs (staying at his atm) is asleep on the sofa after working last night. Off later to go see what damage the weekend caused at Slimming World, hopefully not too bad!
  2. Certainly sounds the right direction for them to go in. Hopefully it will bear fruit further down the line and things will improve at Hornby and we can all benefit.
  3. Thanks Martyn, That certainly has some plus points to it. Having either of the goods yard and /or Staithes (which are for house coal rather than loco) is a feature we'd like to keep. One thing I want to try and keep though is ability to change it to a through layout at a later date if a extension was desired, figure it best to allow for it if possible. The second smaller platform was envisaged as being for loading parcels traffic and car/military traffic potentially. Still not sure what location it will be yet as I don't know the western section as well as the eastern (I want to differentiate the two layouts by different era and locale, though the bigger layout being designed with a modular nature can change locale and era with removable buildings and features it is envisaged). I'll see what Natalie thinks when I next see her and post our combined thoughts on it. Thanks again.
  4. Perhaps you should change your name to 'Mr Euphemism Spotter' or similar Mick
  5. It will be because when the app is installed it gets given certain permissions to access things like your contacts on your phone. The app then cross references these with what it has on its servers that others have put on their Facebook profiles (whether public or private) and then shows you them. Fairly simple in reality, but fairly scary too in some cases from a personal data/security point of view. But most apps you install will get similar access usually. Thats why so many apps are free, the data is the value (as well as the microtransactions in some apps/games of course).
  6. I assume that you refer to Facebook. It has a habit of putting some messages in an "other" folder. You can usually only see them when logging into Facebook on a Web browser.

    EBay madness

Exactly. I find a polite and helpful reply can be welcomed by a seller who values their reputation on eBay, especially as they can end up in a mess with PayPal and eBay when a buyer complains. One of the other ones that got removed sent a rather rude reply to my polite suggestion, so another for the seller blacklist (it is very long!)
  8. Evening all. Hope all are well, if not then hopefully speedy recovery. Today has been busy getting up earlier than my body wanted (still suffering from double whammy of back and scalefourum) aa needed to get Natalie dropped back home so I could meet up with richard to go get a new walking stick. I found one that was a good fit and probably better than old one, as it has a special grip material which should mean no slipping gloves in winter! It is also foldable and a lot lot lighter and easier to store than the old physio issue wooden one. The old one may yet turn up (terry bendall said it wasn't found by the team, but will check with stadium, but I won't hold out much hope). Now to spend a week or so with richard for a bit of much needed tlc, I even brought a load of kits to build as well as track to test some locos I forgot to take down to scalefourum to test on the test track (tested about 4). Now for dinner... (or is that tea? It seems to vary! Natalie says it is tea time, odd to me!)
  9. The cheapness of the 2bil and 2hal units is what has inspired the time period and the use of 3rd rail. I will likely have a 2hap, 2epb and a few other 2 car units available. But the main purpose is to learn about building a layout and building points. That and really as a test track and a test bed for the merg items. All stock should be usable on the bigger Woolwich plan (see signature for links), though some (like an m7 for instance) would be rather out of place on the north Kent lines. As for the platforms, that isn't yet set in stone, so could change, though I'm having a bit of trouble visualising what you mean, mainly due to strong painkillers. Glad you like the plan and concept, will update whenever I have news about it. Stock for it has its own thread on here in the relevant sections, mainly a 465 conversion from Hornby 466 parts and a 416/2 4EPB conversion from replica mk1 parts, which currently has been broken apart due to bad warping after application of filler, but replica gave some advice on avoiding it so hopefully should be able to get that going again.
  10. Certainly had more dimension to it than the usual flip card arrangement a lot of layouts use for announcements (not to disparage them in any way mind). The last thing we need from exhibition layouts is more sound! it all becomes a cacophony with all layouts competing with each other. In isolation a platform announcement tannoy would be great, at an exhibition less so.

    EBay madness

I emailed him to point out his error, and he replied with saying he didn't know. Fair enough.
  12. Picked up a couple of 3x1'6" boards at the weekend at scaleforum. I didn't manage to pick up any track parts aside from from sleepers and a couple of 1:6 vees from the bring and buy section. One of the boards in its temporary home. Its too late to move it for a proper picture. It needs a coat of white emulsion to protect it from damp still. the other is the other side of the wardrobe. I picked up a set of ex-MJT 2HAP sides at the weekend however, which could well be destined for this layout. However still not decided on the location as neither Natalie or myself can agree, though I like the look of Ash Green Halt, even though it wasn't electrified. I picked up some EMGS P4 turnout plans from Expo EM North so I can better visualise with Natalie the plan on the boards.
  13. At scaleforum I picked up 4 more 3x2 boards. Appologies for poor photo, they've been stored out of the way on top of the wardrobe and it is too late at this hour to move them. The bottom one has been painted with white matt emulsion to protect it, the others will get this in due course hopefully. Have not decided still about the curved boards, thinking will stick with traverser each end for now, with curved boards for a later date and a big fiddle yard as a round-round type layout for (possible) exhibition.
  14. For one layout I plan to use the scalefour society lever frame and the other will require a mimic or NX panel to be built with route setting etc.
  15. Ah, I thought it didn't sound like CBUS. Thats the thing I like about MERG, many approaches to the same thing, all equally valid and usable. For me CBUS looks to provide what I want (as well as DCC cheaper than commercial kit). I was trying to figure out why you'd need two 12v supplies to run the servos as iirc servos are usually at 5v. I'm sure MERG members on the forum might find it useful/interesting if you put it there, even for the journal? as they're always looking for items to put in it.
  16. Evening all. Hope everyone is well and if not, the usual GWS wishes etc. Today was as expected a 'stay in bed and sleep/rest as much as possible', all such days immediately after a show are I find, just a factor of life really these days, allowing for rest days makes a big difference in planning for things. Painkillers and heat pads applied, I'm not feeling too bad, though very tired and stiff/achy as to be expected. Tomorrow I'll be up earlier than usual for the 2nd day after a show to take Natalie back home and drop in at my other halfs so he can help me get a new walking stick (mainly needing him to cover the cost as I'm utterly skint following Scaleforum, oops!). The rest of the evening looks to be photo editing/uploading and scanning documents it seems.
  17. A touch TMI there Mick, but I hope both your wife and yourself are well and recovering from what sounds a distinctly unpleasant bug.
  18. What an utterly horrible experience. That staff member needs firing on the spot! not to mention being brought up on whatever charge is relevant by the BTP. I hope she isn't too shaken by it and is otherwise ok. I suspect had he done it with me in the carriage, I'd have thrown the nearest heavy object at his head (or groin), which being a bit of a goth, would probably have been big heavy boots which I tend to wear when travelling long distance by train due to them cushioning footfall quite a bit (and thus helping lessen back pain).
  19. Being a MERG member I'd be interested in more details of this, is it something you've shared on the MERG forum? (I can't recall much about the servo drive units as I intend to use CANSERVO8c boards). Freezing portions of food like that is a great way to save money too ime As for locks, I'm constantly forgetting to lock the door or the car, with thus far, no negative consequences, aside from an unexpected feline visitor on one occasion. Though I did at a former residence get a visitor of the duck variety which greatly confused the two kittens then living there also. I don't know how it is elsewhere, but in most English councils, if the pothole causes damage to a car then they're generally liable for it and put aside a fair proportion of the council tax for this purpose, though proving it can be hard for the motorist generally. Was good to see you, if only for brief moments, at Scaleforum. Hope you enjoyed the show and the ailments clear up swiftly with the new medications.
  20. It should be remembered really, that for most companies they need to start planning and preperation for various 'holiday' dates probably about 6 months in advance, with enough time to organise the display of and advertising of said items, and also for demonstration/test of items for such times of year. It can be a long and complicated process as the Poundworld documentary the BBC broadcast clearly showed at various points.
  21. Looking forward to seeing it at the GETS at Gaydon next month. Will be there helping operate Maxwell colliary.
  22. I took some video of the Shelvington Solari destination display. I'll see tomorrow or later in the week if it is good enough to bother sharing and upload to youtube if so (as usual my videos are unlisted on youtube, so links will be posted somewhere I'm sure (probably the Scaleforum RMweb gallery description).
  23. That and he is likely bound by NDAs anyhow regardless.
