  1. Hello gents,

Ian - enamel can be applied on top of acrylic, it would not work so wel the other way around, acrylic would eat into the enamel and damage it, it would start peeling off.

Imsforever - no HST on branch lines, mainlines where fast trains and HSTs  are in service have concrete platforms. Where there is a ballast platform on mainline station the speed would be reduced.

Both: safety is not so different to nowadays UK lads we are no 3rd world country, and the bolshevik is gone too :pickeat:

    Marian,

Please don't infer that anybody here thinks of the Czech republic as a third world country.  We don't.  If we did, why would so many of us drive Skodas these days? ;-)

The approach to safety is different, but not the end result.  I've never felt unsafe travelling around the Czech Republic.  Far from it.  I love the pragmatism of the Czechs.  :-)  In this conversation "different "doesn't mean "wrong" or "inferior", just "different".

Czech food is great, Czech beer is even better, but it's different to ours.  Part of the fun of travelling is to experience those differences. :-)

  2. It's about at 50% subscribed at the moment but looking at the figures I'm thinking of adding another green one and a green fywp E5010 to the list.

    What do others think?

    Cheers

    Dave

Now then Dave, I've been saving my pennies and have enough to order an E5009 in plain green in addition to the two I've ordered already.  So when are you/Kernow going to announce it, along with the green FYE E5010?

"Cash waiting", as they say in the wanted adds. ;-)

  3. Hello Dave.

I have a Plain Green and Green SYP on order.  I would definitely add anothe Plain Green to my order if one were going to be available.  Might I suggest E5009 which, IIRC, went straight from plain green to blue in late 67/early 68.  That would give you and your customers the widest possible time-span for a plain green 'un and maybe a few extra sales?

    Regards,
    Bob.

Edited for important typo.  should have read E5009, not E5003.  Doh!

  4. I've renumbered a number of green BR(S) Hornby 2BILs using Modelmasters sheet No. 4318. (yellow). I've also added SYP and the black triangle using the same decal sheet.  I've seen the same pack in white with black unit numbers for blue FYE units.  I'd imagine that they've also made one for SR green units as well.
    HTH,
    Bob.

  5. Just picked-up my R3257 2BIL, green, SYP, from my local model shop.  Very nice, lovely paint job etc, but annoyingly it still has the errant motor bogie under the trailer cab.  IIRC we were told by Hornby that this would be fixed for this batch.
    Oh well......................

  6. Unfortunately, this seems to be becoming a habit:

A word of warning; (yes, it's another warning from Phatbob)

I popped into my local model shop on the way home tonight and was delighted to discover that the new ex-LNER CCTs had arrived.  So I bought an R6683 (E 1342 E) and R6683A (E 1326 E).  I got them home and discovered that both boxes contained a model of E 1326 E.  Doh!
So folks, especially those of you in the mail order business, check what's in the box with these.
Fortunately, my local model shop is very good and very local, so there's no problem in taking it back next time they're open.  Others of you are probably not so lucky.

  7. A word of warning folks.  I finally got around to opening mine and getting it out of the box yesterday morning to fit the detailing bits and Kadees.  Unfortunately, there was a conspicuous glue mark on one of the end windows, not visible while it was in the box.  So it's gone back to the shop.
So if you've bought one and not checked it yet, do!

  8. With you as Chief Steward. At last you have a good reason for not being behind your layout!!!

    Mike

Oi!  Don't give him ideas.  The rest of us don't want to be stuck behind his layout for the whole weekend you know! ;-)

  9. Yipeeeee!!!!
As Moses said, "I'll take ten".  Well, maybe not quite that many and not all at one time, but just the thing we need for Star Lane.
    Dave, you've made my day.
Just one question, will it have a working pantograph?
    Cheers,
    Bob.

P.S.  I'd be interested in a scanning party

  10. At the risk of repeating myself, (I've passed on this tip before) I understand from a source at Heljan that they use Railmatch paint.  So you should be able to get a perfect match for the original paintwork if you want to overpaint the SYP.
    HTH,
    Bob.

  11. Are you sure it's croydon A? As Croydon A had wooden cooling towers and it closed in 1976 and croydon B had Concrete Cooling Towers and it closed in 1984 but wasn't taken down until 1991

    Lee

    HSTFAN13

Pretty sure it was A that blue Peter blew up.  It was the ones at B that got used in Terry Gilliam's film IIRC.

  12. At the risk boring people with a repeat post, under this thread I'd just like to repost what I'd already written in the DJM wishlist thread:

"Well, in the wods of the Spice Girls, "what I really, really want" is some decent 00 track, rather than rebadged H0.  Something akin to SMP scaleway flexitrack, with say some 3' radius points and crossovers to suit.  Closer track centres (say EM standards) and points to a high standard of realism, so more like Tilig than PECO."

  13. Is there a difference between the bulleid 2-EPB and bachmanns 2-EPB?

The entire bodyshell and underframe are different.  It would be easier to list the things that are the same! ;-)

    1)  The coupling, braking and control systems.

    2)  The legend "2EPB" on the cab end.

    3)  Errrrrrrrr...............?????? ;-)

  14. Hello Dave.  Thanks for giving us this opportunity to wishlist.
I've noticed that everybody's asking for rolling stock of some sort.  Well, in the wods of the Spice Girls, "what I really, really want" is some decent 00 track, rather than rebadged H0.  Something akin to SMP scaleway flexitrack, with say some 3' radius points and crossovers to suit.  Closer track centres (say EM standards) and points to a high standard of realism, so more like Tilig than PECO.
I'm sure that a man of your perspicacity can oblige.
    Cheers,
    Bob.

  15. Test print for the BEP buffet car in now in my hands. >:->

I plan to get it done in time for the launch of Star Lane at the Barrow in Furness show.  I gather that Matt still wants to make a few improvements before it's made available, mainly to give a better fit to the ends on the Bachmann chassis than it has now.  The fit for roof I have to say is perfected already. :)  Matt's just started Uni so he's a bit busy just now, but watch this space.  Hopefully I'll have some piccies for you all from BIF of the finished and painted prototype.

  16. Downer, on 11 Sept 2013 - 10:00, said:

I recently bought 16001 - D8400 with a grey roof - wrongly assuming that it would be the loco more-or-less as built, and ideal for my 1958-59 modelling period. I can get rid of the warning flashes easily enough, but as far as I'm aware D8400 didn't acquire the eggshell blue cab end until the early 60s, and removing or covering that would be trickier, so I'm considering a number change. D8404 is the favourite, working on the hopeful assumption that Heljan had a photo to hand when they gave their model of that engine a grey roof (albeit also with yellow warning panels). Of course that doesn't mean it had a grey roof in 58-59, but so far, after consulting numerous books and picture libraries, that's the best I have to go on. Has anyone seen a photo of that or another Class 16 with a grey roof, eggshell cab end, and no warning panel or flashes c1958-59?

If it helps, a few years ago I enquired of Kim from Heljan at the Warley show how I might match the paint on my Hymeks. He told me that they use Railmatch paint. So covering the duckegg blue cab ends with a BR loco green that'a an exact match might be an option for you?

  17. Dave,
Just a quick note to say that I'm delighted with my new disc fitted "Baby Warship" (D6326), it's just perfect for Appledore, which I think you saw at the Liverpoool show?

Just one thing, can I claim "the golden anorak award" for noting that as there are electriciation warning flashes on each side, there ought to be a couple on each nose as well? ;-)
Joking aside, Keep up the good work and maybe get around to doing the final production batch as well eventually huh?
    cheers,
    Bob.
