  1. With regard to the guard irons some vehicles had them, some didn't so the current thinking is that we will include these as separate fittings for those who wish to attach them after purchase.

Thanks for that Mike. A cunning plan and It explains why I couldn't see them on the original CADs. Will there be an order form in the January mag? :-)

  2. I've read my Hornby mag today and the brake tender looks superb. Its BR diagram 556, the "thunderbird 2" round-top type on ex-LNER bogies. Just one observation, I can't see the dumb bars on the outer ends of the bogies in the CADs shown in the magazine. This could be the viewing angle, rather than an omission though. I already have a couple of kit-bult ones, but I can see a few of these making their way into my stock box. :)

    Well done Hornby!

Also included in the pack an additional 2 pairs of alternative close couplings.

( The inner ends of the coaches already have close couplings fitted with slimline hook&loops at the outer ends)

A QUERY for those in the know, A whistle is fitted at the driving cab end, how would this have been 'powered' perhaps from a 'connection' with the braking system.

IIRC the whistle was worked by compressed air. The breaking system on these coaches was a vacuum one, but the pull-push control system included a compressed air line.

    HTH,

    Bob.

  4. If we're going Pennsy (and I do like those choices, particularly the T1), surely the GG1 has to get an honourable mention?

They look fast and powerful, and they were exactly that.

But most importantly they were unstoppable and had a service life spanning 48 years.

Here's Lowey himself in a publicity shot with a new GG1.

See post #77. I've already started the ball running for the GG1. Best looking electric loco EVER. Bar none. :-)

  5. Inconvenient truth for the NIMBYs in the Chilterns: the Midlands, the North and Scotland need better links to London, The WCML is full, the ECML will be full soon and further motorway building to try and meet demand has been shown to be unsutainable. UK plc NEEDS this new line and the sooner it's bult the better. Change brings winners and losers. There will be far more winners than losers and we do live in a democracy where the majority rules, so sorry Chiltern NIMBYS, stop living in denial, stop deluding yourselves with your own propaganda and grow-up. It's going to happen, so stop wasting everybod elses' time and money by trying to stop it. Why not do something positive like campaign to get something benefitial out of it, like a "Chiltern Parkway" station on the new route? Then you get some kind of win and don't just lose.

  6. D6315 or D6316 would be your best choices for 1964, earlier conversions received larger boxes which were fitted higher up the nose.

    Trevor

    Cheers Trevor. Thanks for that.

  7. Hi Steve - D6331 was GSYP with headcode boxes from c1965 and gained it's full yellow end treatment in April 1970, being withdrawn in this condition in March 1971 ;)

I was planning to wait for the disc coded ones to come out, but was weak and surcumbed to a D6331 at the Warley show. Given that D6331 in as modelled condition would be a tad too modern for my layout, can anybody advise me on which ones were converted first, so I can renumber D6331 to one that would definitely have been converted from discs to headcode boxes by 1964?

    Many thanks.

  8. Well, I for one welcome this new venture and wish Mr Sutton all good luck with it. He's been very courageous and "put his money where is mouth is" on the Heljan 33. I have faith that he'll deliver what he's promised and the cheque is in the post. If there were more modellers out there with the balls to take a financial risk like this and do something positive, rather than just whinging at others efforts, the hobby would be so much better off.

At risk of offending Andy by wishlisting, if you're reading this Phil, I'll have some slim jims in original condition too please.
