  1. I remember as a kid being dissapointed at not winning the competition on Blue Peter to press the plunger to blow-up the cooling towers at Croydon A. The event was filmed by the BBC, so there might be something on youtube and such like that might show you the surrounding buildings etc.?
  2. At the risk boring people with a repeat post, under this thread I'd just like to repost what I'd already written in the DJM wishlist thread: "Well, in the wods of the Spice Girls, "what I really, really want" is some decent 00 track, rather than rebadged H0. Something akin to SMP scaleway flexitrack, with say some 3' radius points and crossovers to suit. Closer track centres (say EM standards) and points to a high standard of realism, so more like Tilig than PECO."
  3. The entire bodyshell and underframe are different. It would be easier to list the things that are the same! ;-) 1) The coupling, braking and control systems. 2) The legend "2EPB" on the cab end. 3) Errrrrrrrr...............?????? ;-)
  4. Hello Dave. Thanks for giving us this opportunity to wishlist. I've noticed that everybody's asking for rolling stock of some sort. Well, in the wods of the Spice Girls, "what I really, really want" is some decent 00 track, rather than rebadged H0. Something akin to SMP scaleway flexitrack, with say some 3' radius points and crossovers to suit. Closer track centres (say EM standards) and points to a high standard of realism, so more like Tilig than PECO. I'm sure that a man of your perspicacity can oblige. Cheers, Bob.
  5. Test print for the BEP buffet car in now in my hands. >:-> I plan to get it done in time for the launch of Star Lane at the Barrow in Furness show. I gather that Matt still wants to make a few improvements before it's made available, mainly to give a better fit to the ends on the Bachmann chassis than it has now. The fit for roof I have to say is perfected already. Matt's just started Uni so he's a bit busy just now, but watch this space. Hopefully I'll have some piccies for you all from BIF of the finished and painted prototype.

If it helps, a few years ago I enquired of Kim from Heljan at the Warley show how I might match the paint on my Hymeks. He told me that they use Railmatch paint. So covering the duckegg blue cab ends with a BR loco green that'a an exact match might be an option for you?

Dave, Just a quick note to say that I'm delighted with my new disc fitted "Baby Warship" (D6326), it's just perfect for Appledore, which I think you saw at the Liverpoool show? Just one thing, can I claim "the golden anorak award" for noting that as there are electriciation warning flashes on each side, there ought to be a couple on each nose as well? ;-) Joking aside, Keep up the good work and maybe get around to doing the final production batch as well eventually huh? cheers, Bob.
  8. My experience with Humbrol enamal is that once you've mixed it as much as humanly possible, and then some more, it's okay. I also agree with the tip about storing the tinlets upside down. Having said that, I use most water based acrylics these days, if only because they don't affect my asthma. :-) Another possible tip here people: recently, as an outcome of some indolence inspired experimentation, I made the following discvovery. I had an acrylic "wash" that had settled out. Not wanting to spend ages stirring and / or shaking it, I thought, "what'll happen if I pop it into my ultrasonic cleaning bath for ten minutes, and go do something else?" The result was warm and beautifully re-suspended paint! :-) I've NOT tried it yet with enamals, but will give it a go the next time I have to "restore" some enamal paint before use. Perhaps this could just be the lazy man's answer to paint stirring in future?
  9. Excellent news, but a shame that there's no BG in that list. Those of us who don't model the exotic East can still use a "forign" BG on our layouts.
  10. Thanks for that Mike. A cunning plan and It explains why I couldn't see them on the original CADs. Will there be an order form in the January mag? :-)
  11. I've read my Hornby mag today and the brake tender looks superb. Its BR diagram 556, the "thunderbird 2" round-top type on ex-LNER bogies. Just one observation, I can't see the dumb bars on the outer ends of the bogies in the CADs shown in the magazine. This could be the viewing angle, rather than an omission though. I already have a couple of kit-bult ones, but I can see a few of these making their way into my stock box.
  12. Thanks for that Dave. Excellent news for us transition era modellers and also the perfect companions for the forthcoming Dapol ED (class 73). I recall at least once seeing an ED working a house coal train with two brake tenders, one fore and one arft.

  14. Shhhhhhhush. I told you not to let on what goes into the flasks! ;-)
  15. IIRC the whistle was worked by compressed air. The breaking system on these coaches was a vacuum one, but the pull-push control system included a compressed air line. HTH, Bob.
  16. See post #77. I've already started the ball running for the GG1. Best looking electric loco EVER. Bar none. :-)

Now then Dave, THAT'S what I've been waiting for............ As Moses said, "I'll take ten". ;-) Well, a few anyway.
  19. Inconvenient truth for the NIMBYs in the Chilterns: the Midlands, the North and Scotland need better links to London, The WCML is full, the ECML will be full soon and further motorway building to try and meet demand has been shown to be unsutainable. UK plc NEEDS this new line and the sooner it's bult the better. Change brings winners and losers. There will be far more winners than losers and we do live in a democracy where the majority rules, so sorry Chiltern NIMBYS, stop living in denial, stop deluding yourselves with your own propaganda and grow-up. It's going to happen, so stop wasting everybod elses' time and money by trying to stop it. Why not do something positive like campaign to get something benefitial out of it, like a "Chiltern Parkway" station on the new route? Then you get some kind of win and don't just lose.
  20. As Moses famously said "I'll take ten".

I was planning to wait for the disc coded ones to come out, but was weak and surcumbed to a D6331 at the Warley show. Given that D6331 in as modelled condition would be a tad too modern for my layout, can anybody advise me on which ones were converted first, so I can renumber D6331 to one that would definitely have been converted from discs to headcode boxes by 1964? Many thanks.
